Perseverance: Rise Of The Trials
Perseverance: Rise Of The Trials by Ardel Emery is a captivating and provocative fantasy romance novel. We follow Cadence, a young woman in her mid-20s, who is home for a weekend with her family. To complicate matters, her boyfriend comes along as well as a friend of the family who also happens to be an old unrequited flame.
Author Ardel Emery is skilled at the depicting the agony and ecstasy of first love, the physical longing and borderline obsession. The sex scenes are sensual, invigorating, and the most well-written parts of the whole book. All the elements are there for a satisfying love triangle, but there are so many questions that go unanswered, leaving me begging for more details on the intriguing backstory. At only 250 pages, the relative brevity of the book only hints at a much larger and complex plot that is compelling but elusive. I would have enjoyed more explanation of why Cadence was travelling with old friend Trystan instead of her current boyfriend Blake. Each character is alluring and I was enamored with Cadence, and I wanted to explore all the characters more in depth.
While the beginning of the book sets up the characters and the some of the backstory, about a third of the way through the book you get the first hint that this is more than just a classic romantic tale, and the supernatural elements are slowly unveiled throughout the novel, which increased the suspense.
Perseverance: Rise Of The Trials is a riveting romance novel with some steamy sex scenes and an enthralling relationship between Cadence and Trystan that was the highlight of this paranormal romance story.
