“UNPLUGGED!” deciphers the challenges of teenage stress, offering actionable solutions for today’s youth, parents, and educators. Why was this an important book for you to write?
As the world has become more complex and complicated for both the new and upcoming generations as well as their parents, I have found that both teenagers and their parents need support skills to manage life in the ever-changing digital age.
What is a common misconception you feel people have about stress?
One of the most common misconceptions about stress is that it does not affect teenagers as they are young, resilient and life has not really started for them, and that is further from the truth as teenagers have “stressors” that the older generations did not have, like social media for example.
With the ever-evolving nature of the digital realm, how do you recommend parents and educators stay updated and responsive to new challenges that may arise?
I recommend that parents and educators, at a minimum, have a “high level” understanding of the digital age. They don’t have to be experts in all of the modern-day technologies being used, but at least have a working knowledge of the same. I see parents and educators as being modern-day “gatekeepers of the digital age”.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
The main takeaway I would like readers, both teenagers and parents, to take from my book is the digital age requires a new set of support/life skills to have a successful journey to meet the challenges of modern-day life.
Are you a parent, guardian, or educator concerned about the growing impact of digital technology on the well-being of teenagers? Look no further than “UNPLUGGED!
