Every Online Choice Matters
Posted by Literary Titan

The Super Password follows a student who learns an important lesson in internet safety after choosing a weak password and discovering her account has been hacked. Where did the idea for this novel come from?
The idea didn’t begin in my office. It began at home.
I’ve spent more than 15 years working in cybersecurity, helping organizations protect themselves from cyber threats. But everything changed when I became a mother. I watched my own children excitedly explore games, educational apps, and the online world. They knew how to use technology long before they understood how to protect themselves.
That realization stayed with me. I found plenty of books teaching children how to read, write, and solve math problems, but very few that taught them how to stay safe in the digital world they were growing up in every day.
I wrote The Super Password because I wanted the kind of book I wished my own children had. A story they would actually enjoy while quietly learning one of the most important life skills of this generation: every click, every password, and every online choice matters.
The story balances practical digital safety lessons with friendship, trust, and accountability. How did you work to keep the educational message from overwhelming the narrative?
As both a parent and a cybersecurity professional, I’ve learned that children rarely remember lectures. They remember stories.
I never wanted The Super Password to feel like a cybersecurity textbook. I wanted readers to laugh with the characters, worry when they made mistakes, celebrate when they solved problems, and naturally absorb the lessons along the way.
The cybersecurity concepts are woven into the adventure instead of interrupting it. At its heart, this is a story about friendship, courage, responsibility, and learning that mistakes don’t define us. They help us grow.
That’s how children learn best. Not by being told what to do, but by experiencing a journey alongside characters they genuinely care about.
Cybersecurity is often seen as a topic for adults, yet children are spending more time online than ever. What conversations do you hope this book encourages between kids, parents, and teachers?
I hope this book helps families begin conversations they may not know how to start.
As a mother, I don’t want my children to hide their mistakes because they’re afraid they’ll get into trouble. I want them to know they can always come to me if something feels wrong online.
As a cybersecurity professional, I also know that technology alone cannot keep children safe. We can install parental controls, security software, and filters, but none of those can replace human judgment, critical thinking, empathy, or trust.
If this book encourages one child to say, “Mom, something strange happened online today,” or inspires a teacher to start an open discussion about digital safety, then it has already made a difference.
My hope is that talking about online safety becomes as natural as teaching children to look both ways before crossing the street.
Can you give us a glimpse inside the next book in The Brightshield Digital Defenders series? Where will it take readers?
The next adventure takes the Brightshield Digital Defenders even deeper into today’s digital world.
The team will encounter online scams, phishing attempts, fake websites, AI-generated content, deepfakes, and online manipulation, all through exciting mysteries designed for young readers.
As technology evolves, so do the challenges children face. My goal is never to frighten them. It is to prepare them.
Every book in this series is inspired by a simple belief that has shaped both my career and my life as a parent. We don’t protect children by keeping them away from technology forever. We protect them by giving them the knowledge, confidence, and judgment to use it wisely.
I hope that years from now, children who read these stories won’t just remember the adventures. They’ll remember the choices they made alongside the characters and carry those lessons with them wherever technology takes them.
