The Illusion of Control
Posted by Literary Titan

Demon’s Captive Pleasure follows a widowed woman living in a strict, crumbling religious society who captures a demon, expecting danger, but instead discovers something entirely unexpected. What was the inspiration for the premise of your story?
I wanted to be dramatically different from the other two books in the series. Books 1 and 2 follow more pious, more malleable young women who are coerced into intercourse by their demonic lovers. The stories are still hot, but I wanted the FMC to have far more control. Or, at least I wanted her to have the illusion of control, which is what made the tension in this story so thick.
Why did you choose to set the romance against the backdrop of an apocalyptic “rapture” scenario?
This applies to the whole series, but I thought that if someone lives a pious life and foregoes all temptation, all pleasures of the flesh, it seems sad if they can’t have a little fun before being whisked away into the heavens. What if, during the rapture, those pious people get to live out the rest of their lives in sin while the creator turns a blind eye? Just a short, ‘good job’ and a ‘thank you’ to reward them.
Were there moments where Orla surprised you while writing?
I honestly did not expect Orla to have the mental breakdown and roar at Rauth at the beginning, once she captures him in the cage. It was a powerful moment to me, because it shows how deep her trauma goes, that she would take this snarling, fighting beast in a cage and completely tame him with the sound of her own trauma pouring from her lungs.
What do you hope readers are thinking about after they turn the final page?
Are you bold enough to take fate into your own hands like Orla? Or would you be raptured with the masses?
