Emotions Live on Forever

Sharon Crick Author Interview

In SET FREE, you share your husband’s experiences growing up in apartheid-era South Africa, your own challenges, and the role faith has played in your life. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Spiritually I felt the need for people out there, to know what people go through from day to day, how they can persevere, have faith, stay strong. There are people out there who can relate to some of the stories, in the novel, encouraging them to stay on top.

I appreciated the candid nature with which you told your story. What was the hardest thing for you to write about?

Losing our baby boy at twenty-eight weeks old. I did not realize how it still affected me when writing SET FREE I had to pause and have a cry. Losing a baby is hard and to this day I still am so emotional on his birth date, April 30, 1987. Every year I remind his siblings it would have been your brother’s birthday today. Mentioning the heart monitor of our baby starting to fade, made this ordeal so real again for me. Putting pen to paper sounds easy but the emotions live on forever.

How did you arrive at the title SET FREE?

From a born-again perspective the holy scriptures stood out for me. John 8:36 If the son, therefore, shall make you free ye shall be free indeed. Only Christ can set us free from our pain, unforgiveness, heartache, hardships the many burdens we bear, then Christ comes into our lives and sets us free.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from your very personal story?

It will give the reader hope in Christ. To know that Christ is in the midst of the storms we face and he is so mindful of us. The reader accepting Jesus Christ into their life will make the difference for them, giving them hope.
