A Matter Of Imagination

Philip Pallette Author Interview

“Sinful Fathers” follows three religious leaders whose secret lives of sexual transgressions and moral fallibility unravel, challenging the sanctity of their positions and unveiling a layered mystery. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

Sinful Fathers was a follow up sequel to the original story about the half-Jamaican priest Father Grant Stevenson in the original title Sinful Duty. For me it is just a matter of imagination, wondering about people and the challenges they face. I lived in the Seattle area growing up, my grandfather was a high Episcopal priest, I was born in January 1948. My mother sold antiques on 57th Street, but other than that, there is a lot of made up stuff.

I knew a kid named Glenn Kajiama back at Roosevelt Jr. High School in San Francisco.

Your characters are intriguing. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?

Nobody is perfect. We are all flawed and there is no use pretending that life is any different. I look at the ducks and the geese and wonder how they survive the winter and come out during the warm weather as though nothing had happened. But much has happened to them; we just do not know about it.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Fear, lust, temptation, desire, 1970s Seattle, betrayal, homosexual and heterosexual desire, healthy lifestyle, 20th century American songbook, nostalgia.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

The next book I am writing is the third in the series and it is called Sinful Sisters. The protagonist is Dr. Madeleine Obispo, the older sister of Natalie Obispo, who was murdered in Sinful Fathers. It should be out by the end of July. I am busy recording the audible version of Sinful Fathers, and this is taking up all of my time currently.
