Ignored and Hidden Societal Issues

Sam Smith Author Interview

Listen to Shoes is a blend of reality and imagination, addressing societal issues that are often ignored and overlooked. What was the inspiration for the original and fascinating idea at the center of the book?

After a series changes in my life, I started to experience new challenges which I have never thought I might be faced with. Since I, personally, was witness to those realities, it inspired me to write a book combined with imagination about ignored and hidden societal issues.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Negligence, ignorance, pre-judgment, effects of economical recession, political effects, hidden pressures on low income, the elderly, and minorities.

What is one thing that people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

Relate it to romance, specific race, gender.

What is the next book you are working on, and when will that be published?

After three books in a row writing about hidden challenges that most minorities are facing every day, I decided to write a fantasy romance that talks about love and its hidden issues. Something is different in this book compared to my previous books; it is a story of minorities in high class citizens, opposite to low or mid class, which most people believe they have absolutely no issue or are faced with any challenges. I am working on it, and I think will be published before New Year’s.
