For Her Faith And Courage

Manh Dang MD Author Interview

The Mountain Beyond follows Teresa Estes and a network of people whose years of service among the Pokot community connected physical needs with spiritual purpose. What inspired you to tell Teresa Estes’s story and preserve the history of the work on Mount Paka?

I wanted to honor Teresa for her faith and courage in her missionary journey and to honor God. Her story is one example of faith as small as a mustard seed that can indeed move a mountain.

What did you most want readers unfamiliar with the Pokot people to learn about their community, culture, and way of life?

The Pokot have a very primitive lifestyle and were unreached people before Teresa approached them in 2010. They did not know God then. Now, they do and are passionate about the one true God.

The book includes more than 200 photographs and dozens of QR codes linking to video footage. Why was it important to let readers see so much of the journey for themselves?

I believe the story is more relatable and real if the readers can step into the story itself as they immerse in the sight and sounds of the unfolding scenes.

What work continues today, and what are the long-term goals for the ministries and community on Mount Paka?

I continue to lead teams to Mt. Paka to provide medical care for the Pokot and my church continues to support the churches established on that mountain.

The Mountain Beyond begins in a small town in America and unfolds on a remote mountain in Kenya — nearly 8,000 miles away — where water is scarce, and life is hard.
Called to enter a world far away from her own, a courageous woman journeys into the heart of the Great Rift Valley, where she encounters an untouched people long forgotten by the outside world. She risks everything and faces unexpected danger to bring them hope through the living water. With the support of two Southern churches, she helps transform the life of the Pokot tribe on this scorched volcanic slope.
Set against the sweeping beauty of this corner of Africa and under the sapphire sky, this true story is an honest account of faith, hope, and love. It is about crossing a continental divide, the boundaries of different cultures, beliefs, a life of comfort, and a calling that demands more.
Through vivid storytelling, over 200 original photographs, and 60 interactive QR codes linking to real footage of key moments, this book transports readers beyond the pages and into the heart of the living story itself.
For readers who love true stories of faith, global missions, and life-changing journeys, this story will stay with you long after the book ends.
