The Clock Builder offers a practical look at curiosity, leadership, and decision-making, emphasizing how asking better questions can lead to deeper understanding and smarter solutions to complex problems. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I’ve learned that there are three phases of life: finding oneself, making oneself, and becoming oneself. Yet we never really complete just one cycle, because curiosity is the continuum that keeps us learning, discovering, and becoming.

Why do you believe curiosity is such an important leadership skill?

I don’t attach curiosity solely to leadership. I believe it is part of our everyday lives, spanning all situations, ages, demographics, and thought patterns. I attempt to demonstrate that through stories from childhood through adulthood—how finding, making, and becoming ourselves continues throughout life. Whether that is a young student, an athlete, a parent, someone in recovery, or a businessperson, curiosity is there for us to use as a tool of discovery every day.

Why did you choose to structure the book as short “episodes” rather than a traditional leadership narrative?

I felt the message was a journey built from building blocks and didn’t fit traditional “chapter” nomenclature. A chapter can feel finite and complete, whereas an “episode” felt more connective and open-ended, leaving room for the next discovery.

If readers adopted just one habit from The Clock Builder, what would you want that habit to be?

Try to remember that curiosity has always been within each of us. Yet over time, we allow ourselves—and what we think we know—to block us from seeking another or better understanding. In short: don’t simply accept. Challenge and discover.
