Still & Remain: A Love The Kingdom Buried
Posted by Literary Titan

Still & Remain is a Christian historical fantasy that begins in 1441, when craftsman Elias Janssen moves his family from the Netherlands to the Spanish kingdom of Ungido. His son David soon forms an unlikely bond with Princess Isabella while restoring a shattered stone angel. Their growing affection unfolds against court expectations, religious tensions, and legends of the Earthborn, corrupted beings imprisoned beneath the kingdom’s ancient forest. What starts as an intimate story about family, craftsmanship, and forbidden love gradually expands into a centuries-spanning struggle over faith, sacrifice, and the meaning of remaining true to someone after nearly everything familiar has disappeared.
The book’s emotional center is the relationship between David and Isabella, and Bozza gives that relationship room to develop through work, conversation, teasing, and shared acts of kindness. Their scenes around the broken angel are especially effective because the restoration becomes a natural language for their feelings. They aren’t simply drawn to each other. They learn how the other person sees damaged things. The wider Janssen family brings warmth to the novel as well. Elias’s steady wisdom and Anna’s practical compassion shape David in ways that become increasingly important, while the humor shared around meals and worksites keeps the early chapters personable. These domestic moments matter because they show exactly what David stands to lose when the story grows darker.
That darkness arrives through the Earthborn, whose roots, ruined wings, and underground hunger give the novel a vivid Gothic edge. Their appearance transforms the book from a courtly romance into a supernatural drama, but the change has been quietly prepared through carvings, warnings, tremors, and the unsettling northern forest. The threat also exposes human weaknesses already present in Ungido. Jealousy becomes political manipulation, caution hardens into suspicion, and old law gives frightened people a respectable vocabulary for cruelty. Bozza’s prose is earnest and highly visual, with recurring images of stone, blood, roots, bells, and unfinished wings. The pacing is patient and sometimes deliberately repetitive, yet that repetition often works like a refrain, reinforcing the promises and teachings David must choose again and again.
Faith provides the novel’s structure, moral argument, and source of hope. The story wrestles with difficult questions about divine silence, unjust suffering, bodily temptation, and whether endurance still has meaning when no answer seems to come. Importantly, David and Isabella’s faith doesn’t make them untouched by anger, doubt, or fear. It gives them somewhere to bring those emotions without allowing the emotions to become their masters. The book draws a sharp distinction between God’s character and the harm people commit while claiming legal or religious authority. Its most compelling spiritual insight is that faithfulness isn’t a single heroic decision. It’s a choice made repeatedly, sometimes by the smallest possible margin, across grief, loneliness, and time.
Still & Remain asks readers to settle into its world and live with its characters through tenderness, terror, bereavement, and radical changes in history. That scale gives the later chapters unusual emotional weight, especially as buildings outlast beliefs, firsthand truth becomes legend, and David must protect his identity from both the Earthborn and the stories other people tell about him. The ending gathers the novel’s central symbols into a resolution that feels deliberately miraculous while honoring the long cost of reaching it. Readers who enjoy faith-centered romance, supernatural conflict, moral questions, and generational storytelling will find a novel with a sincere heart and an ambitious reach. Still & Remain is a haunting and tender epic about the kind of love that restores what fear condemns and keeps faith when time itself becomes the trial.
