Afterworld (Next Life Book 1)

Afterworld (Next Life Book 1) by [James Robertson]

Next Life Afterworld by James G Robertson is a riveting fantasy novel that exposes the reader to a world beyond our understanding. Life has several unknown factors. Scientists and religious groups work day and night to try and uncover the mystery of this world but no group has ever come up with a firm answer.  All we have are factors that keep on changing day and night. Well, for Leon, all this is about to change as he uncovers some beautiful and terrifying truths about the world that he previously considered mundane and boring. Leon’s world changes abruptly when he finds himself in a new world of mystery, magic and unbelievable events. He finds himself in the company of Krysta and Vance, and together, they fight to stop the evil looming around Earth.

The book starts off on a suspenseful high note that sets the bar high for the rest of the novel. Robertson has the reader hooked from the very beginning. But even with the quick start to the novel the author is not in a hurry to reveal every detail about the mystery at the heart of this engrossing novel.  The plot development of the novel is slow but consistently intriguing. Every chapter brings about a new event and something enticing for the reader to hold on to.  One cannot help but wonder, what happened to Leo? Where did he land? Will Vance and Krysta help him? Will the three of them fight evil and save Earth? Alluring questions with fascinating answers.

The use of imagery in this book is something that stood out to me as exceptional and something that I’ll surely remember this novel for long after I’ve read it. The writer creates a vivid picture of every little detail until you feel you are there with the characters. James G. Robertson has also meticulously created some characters that are equal parts enchanting and beguiling and that goes for both hero’s and villain’s alike.

Next Life Afterworld explores religion and faith in unique ways that are provocative but never offensive. I highly recommend this captivating novel for its ability to setup compelling characters to face some interesting questions.
