Reborn Into A Mother

Jade Padlan RN Author Interview

Empowered Postpartum Wellness is a heartfelt guide designed to help new mothers navigate the murky and often unspoken waters of postpartum recovery, covering everything from healing after birth and nutrition to the mental load of parenting and relationship dynamics post-baby. Why was this an important book for you to write?

As a postpartum nurse, I saw this over and over – mothers preparing for birth and their baby, but not for the transformation into motherhood that happens to themselves. But this wasn’t a professional project – it was deeply personal. Once I became a mom, I remember sitting in my closet crying, breastmilk staining my clothes, sleep-deprived, and just not recognizing myself in the mirror anymore. And not just the physical body in front of me, but my sense of self. The sense of self that was once just a woman, but now cracked wide open, rearranged mentally, physically, emotionally, and on a cellular level, and reborn into a mother.

I wrote this book to name what’s too often left unspoken – Postpartum is not just a season of recovery, it’s a reclamation. It’s emotional, it’s hormonal, and it’s identity work. And it deserves more than silence or survival-mode support. This book deserves to be in every mother’s hands not just as a resource, but an empowering reminder that mother’s matter – that a mother’s healing is not optional, it’s foundational.

One thing that stands out is how relatable the information is; it does not read like a typical “new mom” book. What is your background and experience, and how did it help you write Empowered Postpartum Wellness?

My background is both clinical and most importantly, personal. I’m a postpartum registered nurse and a family health coach – but I’m also a mom of 2 girls who’s lived through the messy unspoken transformation of motherhood.

I’ve held women’s hands in the hospital, charted their bleedings, coached them through their feeding struggles, and watched them leave with discharge papers that didn’t even begin to address what was coming. And I’ve also been the one crying in the shower, navigating postpartum hormones, while learning how to be a mother and still find a way back to myself.

The perspective coming from both lenses – professional and persona – shaped every word in this book. I didn’t want to write another guide that you can google or get from your doctor’s office that glosses over the raw and real parts of motherhood. I wanted it to feel like your best friend, who happens to be a nurse, is sitting beside you, saying comforting and empowering words that’s actually going to help, and know you’re not alone. I wrote it in a way I speak to my patients and my best friends – clear, compassionate, no fluff, and deeply respectful of how sacred this season really is.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

The core truths that was so important for me to include in this book are the ones that few people says out loud, nor is this talked about enough during all those prenatal visits.

First – YOU matter just as much as your baby. Not just during the pregnancy while you’re growing another human, but after the pregnancy, in the postpartum season. Currently, postpartum resources center the baby – how to feed, how baby sleeps, baby milestones. And a mother’s well-being becomes an afterthought, when the reality is – it’s the true foundation of a whole family. When the mother is nourished, the baby is too. When the mother is supported, the whole home is strong.

Another core message in this book is that Postpartum is not just a recovery period up to 6-8 weeks, it is a season of life, it is a transformation. It’s about rebirthing this women – into a mom, even with every pregnancy, the mom in her evolves – emotionally, hormonally, spiritually. Matrescence is real and is as impactful as puberty is to our youth. I wanted to normalize how intense that identity shift can feel – and give women tools to move through it, not around it or fight it.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from your book?

If there’s one thing I hope every reader takes away, it’s this:

You don’t have to disappear in the chaos of motherhood. You get to emerge.

Your needs, your emotions, your identity – they’re not selfish. They are sacred. Your healing isn’t extra. It’s not optional. It’s legacy work. And when you care for yourself, truly and unapologetically, you don’t just survive postpartum. You redefine it.

Because when you thrive, your whole family rises with you.

Empowered Postpartum Wellness: A Practical Guide to Recover After Birth, Build Mental Resilience, and Redefine Self-Care for a Thriving Mom Life

Empowered Postpartum Wellness is a heartfelt guide designed to help new mothers navigate the murky and often unspoken waters of postpartum recovery. Jade Padlan, a registered nurse and mother herself, takes readers on a compassionate journey through the physical, emotional, and psychological transformations that accompany the transition to motherhood. The book is divided into clear sections covering everything from healing after birth and nutrition to the mental load of parenting and relationship dynamics post-baby. It offers both science-backed insight and tender, lived wisdom, all wrapped in a conversational, no-nonsense tone. Padlan’s central message is clear: caring for yourself is not selfish—it’s essential.

Reading this book felt like being lovingly shaken awake. Padlan ditches the glossy Instagram version of new motherhood and speaks to the version of you who is leaking milk, emotionally overloaded, and wondering who she’s become. Her voice is steady, reassuring, and—most importantly—real. What struck me most was how often I found myself nodding along, thinking, “Why hasn’t anyone said this before?” From explaining why the first two weeks are pure survival mode, to helping redefine what self-care really means when you’re a mom, Padlan manages to educate without lecturing and support without smothering.

There were parts where I teared up, not because the book was sad, but because it made me feel seen. That’s rare in parenting books. The chapters on building a “mom village” and setting boundaries with visitors post-birth hit home in a big way. They reminded me of my own lonely early days after delivery—how isolating it felt, even when I wasn’t technically “alone.” Padlan’s tips aren’t just practical; they’re empowering. She teaches you how to be the advocate for the version of yourself that’s still emerging, even when you don’t feel particularly strong. Her anecdotes are vulnerable and brave, which makes her advice all the more trustworthy.

This book is a gem, especially for expectant mothers and those in the thick of the postpartum haze. I’d also recommend it to partners and support people—anyone who wants to truly show up for a new mom. If you want a guide that speaks your language, acknowledges the hard stuff, and helps you come out the other side more whole, then Empowered Postpartum Wellness is absolutely worth your time.
