Be Careful What You Wish For

Barracuda: The Fate Diamond Series follows a man troubled by his decision to let the Fate Diamonds go, who is now experiencing an increase in misfortune in his life. What inspired your story?
This story is a continuation of this series. It characterizes the same morality lesson as the first book. In the first book of the Fate Diamond Series “Almasi Ya Kifo” we see the calamity and danger that befall the possessor of the cursed gems. Our protagonist, Paulo, is still obsessed with the idea that the diamonds can bring him good luck and great fortune. Consumed by greed, he is determined to get them back, regardless of the ominous consequences that may follow.
The Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds possess an energy that heightens and intensifies the demeanor and attributes of individuals. We want to show the effect this can have on human behavior, and the lessons learned. Be careful what you wish for, you may get much more than you thought!
Is there anything about Paulo that came from yourself or your life experiences?
The inspiration to create this character mostly comes from life experiences. But I’m sure we can all recognize some of the similarities in our own lives and perhaps empathize with our protagonist, Paulo.
Was it important for you to deliver a moral to readers, or was it circumstantial to delivering an effective novel?
A bit of both reasons. The series includes both the good and the bad side of human traits. This novel and series underline an uncompromising message of morality, consolidating it all into an effective story telling method.
Can you tell us more about what’s in store for Paulo and the direction of the fourth book?
Book four in the Fate Diamond Series “Mirror: A Reflection of Fate” tells the story of Paulo having the notorious Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds in his keep, once again. He has incessantly wished for the bewitching stones to return to him practically from the moment he gave them up. Paulo is certain he can command providence and yield great fortune this time around. However, he realizes again the bad karma that follows is a consequence of him holding onto the cursed diamonds.
But there is something totally unexpected and remarkable he also discovers. There seems to be an ulterior reason as to why he found the notorious fate diamonds again. Apparently, the stones have found their way back to the person that once happened upon them some years ago, his aunt Elvie.
She tries to convince him once again to rid himself of the cursed stones and better his disposition. To resolve his circumstance, Paulo must consider change for the better. But Paulo’s thoughts are preoccupied with the selfish desire to keep the gemstones all to himself.
The animate power of the cosmos within the Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds amplifies all the harmonic energy of the possessor. A kindhearted person’s goodwill can be intensified. Conversely, a disreputable person’s greed can be consuming.
The celestial gemstones are akin to the sacred stone that Commander Meihtu wears in my debut novel. Ultimately, readers will see how my first novel, The Way You See Me Now, connects with the Fate Diamond Series.

In Barracuda: The Fate Diamond Series Book 3, authors Maury K. Downs and Lorna Downs delve into the mystical allure of the Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds, once a cherished charm for the main character, Paulo. However, as Paulo parts with these diamonds, a series of peculiar and unsettling events unfold, leading him to reconsider his decision. This tale, marked by a blend of suspense and the supernatural, follows Paulo’s journey through a life increasingly dominated by misfortune and desperation.
The narrative is skillfully crafted, with meticulous attention to detail evident throughout the book. The portrayal of Paulo is particularly compelling; he embodies both the protagonist and antagonist roles, capturing a sense of internal conflict that is both frustrating and fascinating for the reader. Witnessing Paulo’s decline is akin to observing a tragic, inevitable disaster – it’s captivating and emotionally stirring. An interesting aspect of the book is its use of a narrator. This choice effectively prevents confusion that might arise from a solely Paulo-centric viewpoint, offering readers a more comprehensive understanding of the unfolding events. The narrator’s presence enriches the story, providing a multifaceted perspective that heightens the tension and drama surrounding Paulo’s fate.
Initially, the story’s pace may appear slow, but this deliberate approach allows for a gradual and more impactful revelation of the plot. The authors’ technique of showing rather than telling adds depth to the narrative, engaging readers as the story evolves into a complex and intriguing web. The book’s narrative style evokes a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of classic storytelling, making it an enjoyable and easy read. Remarkably, Barracuda: The Fate Diamond Series Book 3 stands alone well, even as part of a series, inviting new readers without requiring them to have read the previous installments.
This book is a well-crafted blend of intrigue, suspense, and mystery. It appeals to a broad audience, transcends age barriers, and subtly offers insightful life lessons woven into its narrative. Barracuda is a commendable addition to the series and a worthwhile read for suspenseful and mystical storytelling fans.

The Story is a Morality Lesson
Posted by Literary_Titan

Almasi Ya Kifo follows two men looking to change their lives who wind up crossing paths thanks to the mythical fate diamond. What was your inspiration for the wild journey you take readers on in this novel?
The story is a morality lesson. The Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds possess an energy that heighten and intensify the demeanor and attributes of individuals. I wanted to show the effect this can have on human behavior, and the lessons learned. In essence, be careful what you wish for – you may get more than you thought!
Paulo and Joseph complement and contrast each other well in this novel, building tension for readers. What was your approach to writing the interactions between characters?
To highlight who people really are at their core and how greed can be infectiously consuming and controlling on human behavior.
Joseph is driven by avarice. He’s selfish and has a general disregard for others – unless he wants something from them.
Paulo is naïve, lacking sophistication – but an easy mark for anything that he believes will benefit him financially.
Joseph almost takes pleasure in telling Paulo to take the diamonds. It’s as if he knows what Paulo is going to experience.
Are you a believer in fate, or do you think that people make their own destinies based on the choices that they make?
It’s dynamic. We all have choices; free will that directs us along the path we’re going to take. However, it’s remembering that every choice has a consequence – whether the consequence ends up being a positive, or negative, outcome is the question.
Where does the story go in the next book, and where do you see it going in the future?
Book two in the Fate Diamond Series, Xentastic, tells the story of the next person to receive the diamonds. She doesn’t possess the same all-consuming qualities that the readers have experienced in Almasi Ya Kifo. Readers will see the polar opposite of someone who’s not consumed by greed.
Almasi Ya Kifo is book one of five novels that make up the Fate Diamond Series. As the series develops, we will see not only the negative effects, but how the diamonds can also effect positive changes.
Ultimately, readers will see how my first novel, The Way You See Me Now, connects with the Fate Diamond Series.

These mysterious gemstones possess an energy that can bring good fortune and protection from harm to those that possess them. Whereas for others, there is profound calamity and death. For this reason, the diamonds are known as ‘fate diamonds’ in different cultures. Myth or fact, magic or science? This can only be determined by the individual experiencing their intense affects. Nevertheless, the diamonds are considered priceless and are tirelessly sought after by many gem collectors – and greedy thieves.
Paulo Pineda is a popular and likable, but somewhat hesitant, young man incessantly seeking quick fortune. He’s been drifting around attempting to find his way in life; trying to find the means to move out of his parent’s place, and hoping for the courage to ask out the girl he really, really likes.
Joseph Ashe has more enemies than he has friends. He is not a popular, likable person, with a criminal record going way back. He recently came into possession of the mysterious Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds, having stolen them from his shady business partner’s jewelry store in Las Vegas.
Quite unexpectantly, Paulo’s and Joseph’s paths collide, with dramatic affect. Now in possession of the diamonds, Paulo’s life turns into a roller coaster adventure… both exhilarating and terrifying.

Xentastic
Posted by Literary Titan

Xentastic, the second installment of Maury K. Downs’ trilogy, can be read as a stand-alone novel, allowing readers to delve in without needing prior knowledge of the series. This adventure novel weaves a tale involving high-value jewels, glamorous models, and covert transactions, igniting the reader’s imagination.
The protagonist, Xenyatta Davenport, is a globe-trotting international model whose perfection and lack of negative emotions spur her boyfriend Spencer and his friends into humorous speculation about her true nature, throwing around terms like ‘alien,’ ‘bionic woman,’ and ‘android.’ The plot thickens when Xen acquires the Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds, reputed to curse non-tribal holders. Her mission to return these diamonds to their rightful Native American owners forms the crux of the story.
The book’s brevity, akin to an hour-long TV episode, lends itself to a concentrated, fast-paced narrative. The language is straightforward and colloquial, resonating with readers through realistic character traits like jealousy and suspicion. Xen, however, is crafted differently, embodying the ‘not like other girls’ trope—a glamorous, blonde model who defies stereotypes by enjoying less refined pleasures. The character development, while subtly presented through description more than demonstration, intriguingly sets the stage for further exploration in the next book. This approach maintains a continuous sense of anticipation, promising an enriching depth in the storyline as it progresses.
As a light, quick read, Xentastic is unburdened by graphic content or strong language, making it accessible to a wide audience. Interestingly, its true power could be in serving as an excellent foundation for a movie script, especially given the author’s exciting plans for a film adaptation. This potential adds a unique dimension to its value beyond just a standalone literary work.

Almasi Ya Kifo
Posted by Literary Titan

Maury K. Downs triumphantly returns to the literary scene with Almasi Ya Kifo, a riveting follow-up to his captivating debut, The Way You See Me Now. Joining him in the writing of this gripping suspense thriller is author Lorna Downs. The narrative intricately weaves crime, mystery, and a dash of supernatural suspense, creating a thrilling tapestry of a story.
Central to the novel is Paulo Pineda, a seemingly average man navigating the humdrum of life: nursing a crush on his boss, working at a video rental store, and residing with his parents. However, life takes an unexpected detour when a treasure trove of diamonds— the legendary Almasi Ya Kifo diamonds— lands in his possession. These aren’t just any diamonds; they carry an aura of mystique. Legend suggests they possess dual capabilities: granting their holder unparalleled good fortune and protection or heralding a cascade of calamities.
For Paulo, the path seems fraught with danger, especially with the diamonds’ previous owner, the notorious criminal Joseph Ashe, hot on his heels. Paulo, portrayed as an endearing underdog with an unyielding spirit, consistently finds himself teetering on the edge of peril. Yet, his resilience and sincerity make it impossible for readers not to champion his every move, from evading life-threatening situations to conquering personal insecurities.
The authors’ supporting characters, notably Paulo’s childhood confidant Tommy Grainger, are painted with equal depth and vibrancy. The dynamics between Ashe and Paulo stand out as they present contrasting facets of humanity.
The pacing is impeccably crafted. Readers are introduced to the ensemble cast, swiftly thrusting them into a whirlwind of high-stakes adventures. There are moments when the tension is palpable, akin to witnessing a vulnerable creature stray into a hazardous zone.
Almasi Ya Kifo is a heart-pounding crime thriller distinguished by its empathetic protagonist. With further installments on the horizon, one eagerly anticipates the ensuing chapters of this thrilling saga. Highly recommended for those seeking a story with depth, intrigue, and heart.
