O’SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS, INC. Leave Murder to the Professionals
Posted by Literary Titan

A.G. Russo’s O’Shaughnessy Investigations, Inc. swept me into wartime Brooklyn in 1944, where the O’Shaughnessy Detective Agency tries to stay afloat as war, love, and corruption tighten their grip. The story follows Maeve O’Shaughnessy, a resilient woman running her family’s detective agency while her brothers fight overseas. She juggles heartbreak, danger, and loyalty as she faces mobsters, federal agents, and the heavy shadow of the Second World War. The book blends mystery, romance, and historical detail with an intimate look at ordinary people caught in extraordinary times. Author A.G. Russo paints the era vividly. The rationing, the fear, the faith that life might one day feel normal again.
Reading it felt like slipping into another time. Russo writes with a steady hand and a clear affection for her characters. Maeve is strong without being hardened, and I admired how she never loses her compassion even when the world around her turns brutal. The dialogue feels sharp and real; it’s the kind of talk you’d hear in a smoky Brooklyn diner. Some scenes hit hard, especially when Maeve faces choices that test her morals. The emotional weight sneaks up on you. One moment you’re caught in a clever bit of detective work, and the next you’re hit with the loneliness of a woman holding everything together while the world falls apart.
The number of side plots, mobsters, federal intrigue, family drama, sometimes pulls focus from Maeve’s heart, which is the story’s strongest pulse. Yet even when the plot meanders, the writing carries it. Russo’s world feels lived-in, and her affection for her cast gives the novel warmth that lingers. The prose isn’t flashy, and that’s part of its charm. It feels honest, unpretentious, like it’s being told over a cup of coffee on a gray Brooklyn morning.
When I finished, I sat for a while thinking about courage. The quiet kind that never makes headlines. Russo’s story isn’t just about solving crimes; it’s about surviving them, about staying decent when decency feels naïve. I’d recommend O’Shaughnessy Investigations, Inc. to readers who love classic mysteries, strong-willed heroines, and wartime stories grounded in everyday heroism. It’s a slow burn, but by the last page, it left me both moved and grateful for Maeve’s grit.

O’SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS INC. Bangtails, Grifters, and a Liar’s Kiss
Posted by Literary Titan

A.G. Russo’s O’SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS INC. Bangtails, Grifters, and a Liar’s Kiss whisks readers away to the gritty streets of 1940s Brooklyn, where Maeve O’Shaughnessy and her detective agency balance precariously between personal trials and societal upheaval during World War II. With a layered narrative of mystery, gangland threats, and the home-front struggles against a wartime backdrop, Russo pulls us into a world heavy with palpable tension. Vic Marino, Maeve’s partner, adds a rugged, protective presence to the team, and Jimmy, Maeve’s brother, represents the weight of family duty as the war looms over their lives. It’s a story woven tightly with suspense, crime, and the emotional strains of war-torn America.
Russo’s writing style is nothing short of riveting. From the start, the author paints a vivid picture of Brooklyn in 1943. I loved the scene-setting, especially the vivid descriptions of Maeve and Vic bracing against the elements of a harsh New York summer while being trailed by gangster types. The era feels authentic, and the author does a fine job threading in historical detail, like FDR’s fireside chats, which give us a sense of urgency. Maeve’s stoic resilience stands out, yet she isn’t immune to grief, evident in her moments of emotional vulnerability, like when she zones out thinking of her lost friends and worries about her brothers. Vic’s attempts to lift her spirits are genuine, though he, too, grapples with trauma from his past relationships. These emotional layers make the characters believable, but at times, the slow build made me wish for quicker pacing. The banter between Maeve and Vic feels organic, almost like listening to old-time radio detectives, and moments like their hilarious disguises to avoid the mob’s gaze had me grinning. The shadow of the mob boss Fat Fingers loomed large and added a sense of dread whenever Vic navigated their world.
O’SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS INC. Bangtails, Grifters, and a Liar’s Kiss is a thrilling read, brimming with atmosphere and heart. Russo has a gift for bringing the 1940s to life, immersing readers in the moral dilemmas, period slang, and struggles of everyday people. If you’re a fan of historical crime fiction with a detective noir flavor and plenty of emotion, this book is well worth your time. It’s for anyone who enjoys strong female leads, tales of loyalty and loss, and a twisty plot that keeps you guessing. Dive in and let Maeve and Vic take you on a wild ride.

O’SHAUGHNESSY INVESTIGATIONS, INC. The Cases Nobody Wanted
Posted by Literary Titan

In the heart of 1942’s Brooklyn, A.G. Russo introduces readers to the formidable pair, Maeve O’Shaugnessy and Vic Marino, in O’Shaughnessy Investigations Inc: The Cases Nobody Wanted. This duo delves into cases others hesitate to touch, their most challenging being the chilling murder of Lucille Sullivan, a young woman whose life was tragically cut short within the walls of a luxurious apartment.
Though the circumstances surrounding Lucille’s death scream for justice, the police show a surprising lack of interest, propelling Maeve and Vic into a whirlwind of danger and intrigue. As they navigate a world rife with thugs and enigmatic figures, the narrative masterfully pieces together an intricate puzzle of suspense and deception.
Russo paints a vivid historical canvas, transporting readers to a Brooklyn gripped by the aftermath of Pearl Harbor’s attack and the ongoing upheavals of World War II. With numerous men on battlefronts, women like Maeve find themselves stepping into roles beyond domestic confines. Her journey from a secretary, ensnared in societal expectations, to a fierce detective alongside the pragmatic ex-cop Vic is a testament to resilience and partnership.
One of Russo’s strengths is character development, with Maeve emerging as an especially compelling figure. Her tenacity, even in the face of adversity, resonates deeply and adds layers of depth to the narrative.
This neo-noir mystery doesn’t shy away from the realities of its era. Themes of violence, racial tensions, sexism, and more are explored with raw authenticity, sometimes employing language and situations reflective of the times.
Engrossing and evocative, O’Shaughnessy Investigations Inc: The Cases Nobody Wanted is a treat for those yearning for a robust mystery novel that both entertains and challenges. Highly recommended for the discerning mystery aficionado.
