Calm In The Face Of Chaos
Posted by Literary_Titan

Danger Revealed follows two private detectives who are investigating the case of a missing diplomat and stumble into a larger crime ring than anticipated. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
The tragedy of human trafficking was brought home to my Iowa hometown while I was working as a freelance journalist covering county government. The busiest truck stop along Interstate 80, which moves traffic across the U.S. from Boston to San Francisco, is located in Walcott, Iowa. The series of articles I wrote from interviews with local police, politicians, business owners, and victim advocates, as well as a documentary produced on the victims trafficked from Iowa to Chicago, inspired the story of Rayen. Reading My Father’s Ghost is Climbing in the Rain, a novel by Patricio Pron, prompted my interest and research into the Dirty War in Argentina. The horrors and atrocities of human rights abuse, past and present, became linked in the layers of plot and people struggling to connect and make sense of it all in Danger Revealed.
With so many memorable characters in this novel, who was your favorite character to write for and why? Was there a scene you felt captured the character’s essence?
The multi-faceted persona and intensely personal experience of Lucas Dominguez inspired me to write this story. In the scene from the chapter titled “War of Words”, Lucas negotiates for Rayen’s life with the primary protagonist Otto Hermann, aka Octavio Hernandez. His calm in the face of chaos, using words to build a common bridge of personal history between himself and the criminal holding a knife to Rayen’s throat, personifies the refugee from homeland violence who found strength in freedom and serves his country of choice helping others who risk everything to live as they choose.
How do you balance story development with shocking plot twists? Or can they be the same thing?
I’ve discovered that as the story develops, the plot twists are revealed. The balance in writing suspense and thriller depends on who knows what and when both as the characters interact in the world of fiction built between the pages and in the mind of the reader.
What is the next book in The UnMatchables series that you are working on, and when will it be available?
Kelly and Eddie’s third case picks up where Danger Revealed left off with the demand that Eddie rewrite a true crime novel to save the new client’s reputation and possibly his life. That story will take shape at an unknown date as I’m currently writing the second novel in my uniquely-Canadian political thriller series. Lucas, Tori and Rayen are back and caught up in the mystery of a minister’s death and a nefarious network determined to seize control of government. I’m enjoying the challenge of crossing over characters from one genre and placing them in an entirely different setting and situation.

Tori Deane gets no answers from the Canadian consulate when her diplomat lover Lucas Dominguez goes missing. Chicago police won’t help her. The UnMatchables private investigators Eddie Emerson and Kelly Gillespie are Tori’s last hope.
Eddie and Kelly uncover evidence that Lucas has returned to the country of his childhood that was ripped apart by the Dirty War. An undeliverable money order sent to Buenos Aires from a bodega in a neighbourhood Kelly dreads may be the lead they need to heat up a cold case.
The danger revealed points to the sordid underworld of human trafficking ruled by a ruthless crime boss who hides his past behind an alias. Argentine refugee Rayen Vasquez is desperately seeking a way out and away from Octavio Hernandez, aka Otto Hermann, that only Lucas can give her.
Time isn’t on The UnMatchables side.
Canada has deployed an elite law enforcement team with orders to recover their diplomat. Chicago PD has spread a wide net to snare smugglers and cripple the illegal transport of guns, drugs and people.
Hermann is on the run. His reason for keeping Rayen alive is about to expire.

Danger Revealed

Danger Revealed by Teresa LaBella, the enthralling second installment of The UnMatchables series, presents an intricate plot woven with mystery, suspense, and human connection. Our protagonists, Kelly and Eddie, an engaged duo of private investigators, are vividly depicted and profoundly relatable, driving the narrative forward with their dynamic personalities and professional acumen.
In the novel, the investigators are employed by a smitten woman to locate her elusive lover. However, their mission is unexpectedly flipped on its head when the supposed quarry, a Canadian diplomat hailing from Argentina, enlists their aid to locate his missing former lover and her daughter. This unusual turn of events effectively lays the groundwork for a gripping detective thriller.
The characters stand as one of the book’s greatest strengths, embodying the perfect blend of endearing traits and human flaws that lend them a realistic edge. The characters seem so authentic that readers might find reflections of their acquaintances in them. The narrative’s suspense escalates rapidly, with surprising plot twists introduced early, keeping readers on their toes.
While the characters persist across the series, LaBella does a commendable job of ensuring the book is equally compelling as a standalone piece. Whether you are a newcomer to the series or a returning reader, the narrative provides a fully immersive experience.
The novel employs a stylized interpretation of police procedures that may appeal particularly to fans of detective television dramas. Although this creative license may differ from actual law enforcement practices, it adds an engaging and entertaining twist to the storyline, enhancing the book’s appeal for those who enjoy the dramatic aspects of detective fiction.
The novel’s structure, characterized by varying chapter lengths and intermittent breaks, offers a versatile reading experience, catering to both those who prefer brief reading sessions and those who enjoy longer periods of immersion in the story. Regardless of your preferred pace, the captivating narrative ensures the conclusion arrives before you anticipate it, leaving you desiring more of the thrilling detective saga.
Danger Revealed is a riveting piece of detective fiction that intrigues with its dynamic characters, unexpected twists, and relentless pace, though it may benefit from a more realistic portrayal of police procedure. It is a delightful read that will appeal to fans of the genre and newcomers alike.
