The Immortal follows a woman who’s whisked away on a perilous adventure where she finds love and makes some profound self-discoveries. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
It began with a nightmare. Dreaming I’d stumbled upon a mass murder, I sought refuge in a personal library. All the books on the shelves were the same book, written in different langues, and sitting in the corner of the library was a man, not at all afraid or concerned about what was going on outside. When I woke up, I found myself daydreaming about who the man was and what story he’d written over and over again. So began The Immortal. Emma and I share a few similarities, I’m about to turn forty myself and if writing is some midlife crisis, well, it’s been an unexpected adventure.
The relationship between Emma and Bjorn was enthralling and well developed. What were some driving ideals behind the development of their relationship?
The relationship, although a fantasy, reads realistically. At a certain age, what we want in a relationship changes. This relationship isn’t a hot passionate young fling. It’s less about needing a man but instead wanting him. However, it’s not always clear if the relationship is requited.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
I wanted the average woman to know she is the hero. But while I was writing it, I didn’t realize it was a theme until the end.
What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?
The review mentioned you liked my character, Stacey. I wanted to let the reader know what happened to him so his story is hinted at in a crossover in my Kindle Vella episodic series Lily.
Emma just turned forty and has finally decided to begin living her best life. She books a vacation at a resort on a French Polynesian island only to find herself on the dinner menu of an immortal Viking. If she keeps her wits, and with a little luck, maybe she’ll make it off the island alive. This page turner is an action-packed, contemporary fantasy that’s easily devoured whole.
