Found

Eleanor Clay has a gift, seen by some as a curse: she has the ability to find the bodies of missing children. Working as a civilian consultant at Bristlecone Springs PD, she soon grows tired of finding tiny corpses, reliving time and time again her worst nightmare, that of always being too late to save that which is most precious to her: her own children. A new miracle suddenly occurs, and she begins to find children when they’re still alive, though in precarious condition. The town is not safe and superstitions start to fly. More children are disappearing. A pattern is hard to discern, and for every disappearance Eleanor is there to find a hurt child on the brink of death. What truth lies below the surface?

There is a compelling mystery at the heart of this story that unravels methodically, making it difficult to put the book down as I was always wanting to see what was going to be uncovered. The storyline is intriguing from the very beginning. Few details are sprinkled throughout the narrative that allow the reader to connect some dots and come to conclusions alongside the characters about the true nature and extent of the crime.

A variety of points of view let readers gain an understanding of different perspectives. This also helps readers grow attached to new characters along the way, not just the protagonist. We meet interesting characters with unique traits that become essential to the investigation. Every character is crafted with depth and nuance so that we find them just as alluring as the mystery in the story.

Cooper is able to craft a story that, through deeply traumatic experiences and dark occurrences, eventually brings people together, giving a sense of community and protection. The story has a great pace overall, with chapter endings that pique your interest and beg you to start the next chapter.

Found by Irene Cooper is an immersive crime thriller that never forgets to entertain the reader. Eventually dealing with darker and more serious themes than expected, the story is outlined in such a way that there are multiple things that will stay with readers well after they put the book down. Found is a gripping murder mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seat until the very end.
