Books That Solve Problems

Tamika M. Murray
Tamika M. Murray Author Interview

From Grunt Work to Light Work provides homeowners with practical guidance they can use to attract home buyers. Why was this an important book for you to write?

It was important to share my story because I’ve gone through the process of buying a home. I knew how exhausting it felt. So when I went through selling my home I knew the things I did to speed up the journey could help someone else. I enjoy assisting others, which is why I’m a social worker. Once I became an author, I decided to write books that solve problems. Selling a house is a huge problem! Wouldn’t you agree?

What is a common misconception you feel homeowners have about selling their home?

Either it’s never going to happen or they expect it to happen overnight. Everyone’s experience will differ. However, my book makes it easy to go through the process and makes it a more enjoyable journey.

What were some key ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

I wanted to be honest. When I was left with my house it was a huge life change. It took time and patience to get it ready for sale. But utilizing the help of others definitely helped make the process easier. Plus, having a clear, realistic idea of what my house was worth made pricing it easy. Being flexible when selling a home is key. If the price needed to be lowered I was willing to do it, but thankfully it never came to that.

When and where will your book be available?

My book will be available on Amazon and Kindle on May 5th.

From Grunt Work to Light Work: A Homeowner’s Guide to Attracting Buyers

From Grunt Work to Light Work: A Guide to Attracting Buyers, is the latest book written by Tamika M Murray, a writer and Social Worker based in New Jersey. This book is structured into two distinct parts. With a wealth of great information that is broken up into sections of focused content, I really appreciated the Table of Contents in this enlightening book because I was able to quickly reference and go to the sections I found most helpful. Each chapter also ends with discussion questions, which are thoughtful prompts that the reader can either answer themselves or discuss with others.

Part One of From Grunt Work to Light Work: A Guide to Attracting Buyers focuses on the Grunt Work – which is the hands on, physical work that is required to get a house prepared for sale. There are five chapters in this part: Get Organized, If it’s Broke, Please Fix it, Sprucing Up your Home, Lien on Me and You Need a Helping Hand. All these chapters are easy to read and informative. These chapters provide practical sound advice that I found to be immensely helpful. As mentioned, each chapter also has a helpful discussion session at the conclusion of the chapter. These are relevant and thought-provoking questions which all house vendors should consider.

A large part of this book is dedicated to using the laws of attraction to sell a house, and this is where Tamika M. Murray’s book stands out from other books on this topic. I was particularly interested in the Manifestation technique, which includes strategies such as using the 5 x 55 Method , Scripting,  Affirmations, Visualizations,  and so much more. These strategies are explained in considerable depth in the book, which I greatly appreciated because it made the content much more interesting and easy to understand. After an explanation of each strategy, there are several ‘workbook’ type pages, where the reader can put the strategy into action. Using these strategies, Murray explains how the reader can manifest an ideal buyer. Author Tamika Murray has been using the law of attraction since 2014, and her passionate and knowledgeable on the subject is evident throughout the book.

From Grunt Work to Light Work: A Guide to Attracting Buyers is an enlightening and informative book that is geared toward providing average homeowners with the tools they need to attract buyers. This illuminating guide combines experience and passion to create a book that will benefit any homeowner.

Sold Above Market

Sold Above Market4 StarsSold Above Market is an excellent introduction to the necessity of having a good real estate agent when you’re ready for the home-buying process. The book details not only why you need a real estate agent, but why you need a real estate agent that works for you. Geoff Grist walks you through every detail you need to know about real estate agents and how they work.

The book explains how real estate agents are compensated and how they work. For someone trying to buy a home, this information is really valuable because it provides insight on which kind of real estate agent will work for them. Should you work with an independent agent or with a team? Should you work with a local agent (or agency) or one outside of the area? There are pros and cons to working with both types. These kind of minor details are things that homeowners overlook in the chaos of the real estate process. Sold Above Market repeatedly points out (and I’m glad that the book does) that real estate agents are not all the same.

Another helpful area of the book is the author’s breakdown of “real estate agent speak” with a distinction between what a good agent will say and what an average agent will say. This section really highlights the insider knowledge this book provides. Working with a real estate agent involves working with the forms, but it also means working with a different language. When an agent tells you “We don’t have any more buyers”, this books tells you whether that’s a good sign or a not-so-good sign.

The book did come with two surprises that don’t really take away from the book, but are worth mentioning. The book is written for the Australian market (although not exclusively), yet I had no trouble understanding it from an American perspective. The second is that the book featured no website or online resources in the book itself, which is kind of odd for a book in 2015.

The rest of the book covers the process that you should walk through when choosing an agent. The book focuses first on the need to break down what you want to achieve in buying and selling a house. Then you can find the agent or agency that will help you reach that goal or goals. The book then provides details on the paperwork, meetings, and questions you need to ask before and during the home-buying process. Along the way, Sold Above Market provides details; like the downsides of multi-listing or going with the first agent that knocks on your door.

The book was an excellent introduction to the field of real estate from a seller’s (or even a buyer’s) perspective. Often when we are ready to buy or sell, we have a bunch of things going on (both good and bad) and need some help in figuring out what to do. This book’s comprehensive approach and jargon-free language are essential to helping you in a time like that.
