Bertie and The Garden of Wonders
Posted by Literary Titan

In Bertie and the Garden of Wonders, Mandy Woolf crafts a delightful and heartwarming tale of friendship and discovery. Poor Bertie, a faded beachball, spends his days on a shelf, watching the children choose other toys over him. Feeling neglected, Bertie yearns for the vibrant beauty of the garden he can see through the open door. Determined to experience the garden’s wonders, Bertie rolls himself outside and encounters Puff Ball, a soft, white fluffy flower who unexpectedly begins to talk to him. Delighted to make a new friend, Bertie and Puff Ball enjoy each other’s company, sharing entertaining stories and working together to protect Brian, a bee in need. As the seasons change, Bertie learns that Puff Ball must leave for a while but promises to return. The story leaves readers eagerly wondering whether Puff Ball will keep her promise, adding an element of suspense and anticipation.
The unique friendship between a flower and a beachball teaches children valuable lessons about the beauty of diverse friendships. Woolf’s storytelling is both fun and endearing, emphasizing that differences can make friendships special. The interactions between Bertie and Puff Ball also highlight the importance of teamwork, showing young readers that collaborating can help solve problems.
Adding to the book’s appeal, Woolf includes engaging activities at the end of the story. These activities encourage children to continue enjoying the adventures of Bertie and Puff Ball beyond the pages of the book. From crafting their own Bertie and Puff Ball to exploring their surroundings in search of plants and animals, children can extend the story’s magic into their own lives.
Elmira Georgieva’s illustrations beautifully complement Woolf’s narrative. The artwork is not only enjoyable to look at but also enhances the storytelling, making readers feel as if they are part of the adventure. Each page invites readers to immerse themselves fully in the story, with illustrations so vivid they seem almost tangible.
Bertie and the Garden of Wonders is a charming book that teaches children the true meaning of friendship. Mandy Woolf’s engaging storyline, coupled with Elmira Georgieva’s delightful illustrations, makes this book a must-read for young readers. I highly recommend it for its endearing message and captivating presentation.

Paper Wings
Posted by Literary Titan

Paper Wings, by Mandy Woolf, is a thoughtful and insightful book, delicately addressing the challenging topic of a parent’s serious illness, in this case, a brain tumor. Woolf’s narrative, centered on the experiences of Lilybeth and her children, Leo and Luna, skillfully intertwines themes of faith, resilience, and the enduring power of love in the face of adversity. The story unfolds as the family grapples with Lilybeth’s diagnosis and the remnants of her tumor, which profoundly impact her spirituality and worldview. A pivotal moment occurs when Lilybeth, experiencing an out-of-body encounter with her late mother, rediscovers her inner strength and resilience. This personal epiphany not only rejuvenates her spirit but also provides a powerful lesson for her children.
Woolf’s narrative deftly conveys several core values: the significance of maintaining faith during trying times, the necessity of resilience in the face of life’s unexpected challenges, and the triumph of love and courage over daunting obstacles. This storyline offers readers, especially those encountering similar familial struggles, a relatable and hopeful perspective.
The book’s illustrations, crafted by Elmira Georgieva, add a layer of gentle beauty to the narrative. Georgieva’s artwork vividly captures life’s simple joys, boundless imagination, and the light that can be found even in the darkest of times, as symbolized by the grandfather figure in the story. Beyond the story itself, Paper Wings includes a valuable section for parents and guardians. This part of the book provides practical advice and resources for helping readers process and understand illness and its accompanying emotional challenges. It recognizes that health crises are not isolated events but affect the entire family unit. Here, Woolf excels in not only acknowledging this reality but also in providing tangible support for families navigating these difficult experiences.
Paper Wings stands out as a meaningful and empathetic resource for families, offering guidance, understanding, and a message of enduring hope amidst life’s most challenging moments.

Finding Mummy’s Glow
Posted by Literary Titan

It can be incredibly difficult to find the words to help young children understand serious illnesses like cancer. Even more challenging is finding a way to help them process the many feelings and side effects associated with the cancer treatments their family members may be experiencing. With her book, Finding Mummy’s Glow, Mandy Woolf has gifted families a way to handle little ones’ questions in a loving way they will find easy to understand. I can’t think of a better gift for parents who are undergoing chemotherapy than to have a children’s book that answers the difficult questions for them.
In Finding Mummy’s Glow, Noah learns that his mother has cancer, and he tries every way possible to give her back the glow the disease has stolen from her. Mr. Snuggles, Noah’s teddy bear companion, joins him on his mission to make his mother feel better and help their home feel normal once again. Readers experience all the emotions alongside Noah as he becomes increasingly determined to make everything right in his mother’s world. Woolf’s book is touching and covers this topic with care in a way that comforts without creating worry.
I found the way that Woolf deals with Noah’s stress to be the most effective aspect of the narrative. When Noah worries that he might have caused his mother to be sick and that he might be able to catch the same disease his mother has, he is reassured by his mother with confidence and explanations that children will easily comprehend.
As a mother who has undergone treatment for skin cancer, I appreciate the approach Woolf has taken with this delicate topic. She does not shy away from having her main character express very real emotions. This realistic approach combined with the overarching sense of hope throughout the story and the fantasy elements surrounding Mr. Snuggles makes this a must-have book for families searching for ways to talk openly and honestly about cancer with their children.

I Love the Sparkle in You

Parents rejoice when their new bundle of joy arrives. Colors are brighter, sounds are clearer, and the world takes on an entirely different feel. Authors have tried for many years to create a narrative that sufficiently describes the intense love a parent has for a newborn. Author Mandy Woolf’s I Love the Sparkle in You offers parents a beautifully written and illustrated book parents will want to set aside as a touching keepsake for their children. Love permeates Woolf’s tale from cover to cover. It is obvious how much of both the author’s and illustrator’s hearts went into this precious book.
I Love the Sparkle in You, written by Mandy Woolf and illustrated by Elmira Georgieva, examines precisely how special the arrival of a new baby is to not only parents but to the world. From the sun itself being dazzled by the brand new infant and offering its warmth on the gloomiest of days to the work ethic taught by the ever-toiling ants, Woolf explains in loving detail all of the ways in which the universe conspires to teach and take care of its children.
The illustrations in Woolf and Georgieva’s book are simply stunning. The soft yet colorful illustrations play a powerful role in conveying Woolf’s message. Parents will enjoy both reading and sharing this sweet tale with the youngest of readers.
I Love the Sparkle in You, written by Mandy Woolf and illustrated by Elmira Georgieva, is a breathtaking picture book that will touch the hearts of readers. I can see Woolf’s book becoming a classic among new parents as they seek gifts that will last a lifetime and convey a beautiful message that is sometimes difficult to verbalize. I highly recommend Woolf and Georgieva’s work to anyone looking for a fantastic gift for a baby shower or new parent.

Harmony Dances On: A Book About Grief
Posted by Literary_Titan

It is hard to lose a loved one, especially as a child. When Harmony’s mother dies, she says that the pain is worse than anything else she has ever felt. She exsperances the emotions of anger, fear, and sadness and even finds chances to feel happy and hopeful. This vast range of emotions confuses her and even scares her when she momently forgets about her mom while dancing. Thankfully she has supportive family and friends around her that help her through this painful time.
Harmony Dances On: A Book About Grief by Mandy Woolf is a heartfelt story about a little girl managing the loss of her mom. Grief is a complicated emotion that is made up of many different feelings and exsperances. Harmony finds some comfort in her mother’s scarf; wrapping it around her and smelling it reminds her of her mom. She struggles with resuming normal activities like going to school and returning to her dancing. I loved how the author shows the other adults in Harmony’s life struggling with finding the right words but also being patient and understanding, showing that adults struggle with how to help their child process and deal with grief too.
Elmira Georgieva’s illustrations really bring out the emotions of the characters. I can relate to the grandmother wanting to take away Harmony’s pain and support her. The activities that are included at the end of this story are invaluable to helping families deal with grief. I loved the emotions wheel; it helps kids identify the different things they are feeling and understand that they can feel more than one thing at a time. I found “The 3 P’s” activity especially useful, not just for dealing with grief, but for every day to remind children to work at a healthy mindset each and every day.
Harmony Dances On: A Book About Grief is a well-written children’s book about a difficult topic. The author shows great compassion and understanding of children’s emotions in this picture book. This is a wonderful book to have on hand to help children that may experience a tremendous loss like Harmony.

Bertie’s Christmas Adventure
Posted by Literary Titan

Bertie’s Christmas Adventure by Mandy Woolf is a delightful holiday story that brings cheer and self-confidence. We are introduced to Bertie, a colorful ball that lives in the Toy Library, who watches as all the other toys get ready on Christmas Eve for Santa, but Bertie is too afraid to do anything. When Santa arrives and desperately needs help, will Bertie find his inner strength to overcome his fears and help save Christmas?
Investing in the development of a child’s self-confidence is extremely important, and this imaginative book does just that. Woolf’s talent shines through not by how the story is told but by the brilliance behind the straightforward execution of a great story with deep meaning and heart. The author is not only able to capture the spirit of Christmas through her words but with the adorable illustrations created by Elmira Georgieva. Together they succeed in showing how Bertie learns to see just how much he is truly capable of if he just believes. Santa’s support gave him the small nudges he needed to roll off that shelf and begin his journey of self-belief.
Bertie’s Christmas Adventure is the perfect book for any young reader, especially around the holidays to show the importance of believing in oneself and believing in one another. I would highly recommend this book and will be keeping this one in my own children’s home library.

Bertie the Bouncy Beachball
Posted by Literary Titan

Bertie lives at the most wonderful place possible–the beach. He is a beachball housed on a shelf in a shed full of toys and should have fun-filled days in the sun with one beach-going child after another. Bertie, however, is not so lucky. Day after day, he watches the other toys in the shed leave their spots on the shelves to enjoy the beach and bring smiles to children. All he wants is a chance to do the same. When Rosie and Esther enter the shed with their grandfather one day, Bertie’s luck begins to take a turn.
Bertie the Bouncy Beachball, written by Mandy Woolf and illustrated by Elmira Georgieva, is the sweet story of a beachball who desires nothing more than to feel wanted and useful. His sadness is palpable, and the touching illustrations clearly convey his emotions to young readers throughout the book. Children will be drawn immediately to Bertie and his plight.
Parents and teachers will be reminded of Corduroy as they introduce readers to Bertie and his struggle to be important to someone. Woolf includes lessons on patience and perseverance–both excellent lessons for young readers. The most important lesson conveyed by the author and one parents and teachers will more than appreciate is that we should give others a chance to shine.
As a teacher, I can see Bertie the Bouncy Beachball as an excellent resource for elementary teachers and guidance counselors. There are some truly wonderful opportunities within Woolf’s book to address feelings and how to cope with them. I highly recommend this delightful read!
