The Story Just Flowed From There

T N Traynor Author Interview

The Fisherman’s Wife follows a woman married to an abusive husband that saves a drowning pirate, they then set off on an adventure to gain their freedom from oppressors and find treasure. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

The story just came to me. I had a vision of a woman wanting to escape her life, and then I set it in a place near to where I grew up, the story just flowed from there when I discovered Bigsbury-on-Sea has a pirate history.

What was your approach to writing the interactions between characters?

I picture my characters in my mind and the interactions just flow.

What research did you do for this novel to get the history part of the novel right?

Tons of research. I spent several months researching pirates and also the area of Bigbury-on-Sea. I needed to look up many things to ensure I was historically factual, from buildings to clothes to customs, everything. It was a lot of hard work.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I have several books on the go. I think the most likely to be complete first will be: Whispers of Love, which is a contemporary love story. Emily takes a job in the country to be a companion to an old lady called Camilla. Camilla’s two sons both end up falling in love with Emily, but Emily is caught up in the family’s past and trying to find out why there is no love between them all. I would like to hope that it will be released before Christmas this year.

A violent tempest throws hope into both their lives when Eddie is shipwrecked in the fishing bay of Bigbury-on-Sea and ends up on Connie’s beach. Will the two of them take their chance at happiness, and if they do, can they outrun the men who want them dead?

Brianna in Cymru

Brianna in Cymru, by T. N. Traynor, is a historical romance novel following Brianna, who has a powerful gift that is passed on from mother to daughter. She heals people by putting her hands on them. Yet in the year 1664 her demonstrations of faith are called witchcraft. With a witch hunter on her tail, Brianna loses her mother as she tries to find where the Nightjars sing and the man she’s destined to be with.

Author T N Traynor helps the reader fully immerse themselves in this epic fantasy story with sharp writing and eloquent prose. By providing the reader with some of Brianna’s thoughts and feelings the reader is able to easily put themselves in her shoes. I could understand what she was going through and I think readers will truly be able to feel what she feels as all the emotions are so vividly painted throughout the story.

Brianna’s faith is important to her, and the story, and passages from the Bible are quite often referred to, ensuring that the importance of faith in this novel is never forgotten. Brianna’s character feels real and there is enough conflict to keep the story and the momentum going among the plethora of Bible references.

I was expecting to find an emotional romance plotline weaved into the story, similar to what one would read in a Julia Quinn novel. While this Christian fantasy story does contain a romantic aspect between Brianna and Arwen, we never dwell on it, which keeps the focus on Brianna and her adventure.

There were a lot of interesting characters that are introduced throughout the story that I thought were well developed. But despite that, I would have liked to have explored Brianna, Arwen, and Benedict’s characters more, as I thought they were fascinating, and I would not have minded seeing their characters more often on the page.

Brianna in Cymru is an exhilarating and thought-provoking historical fiction novel that will surprise readers with a subtle but creative use of magical realism. Emotionally stirring and brimming with a cast of interesting characters, this is an adventure story that I heartily enjoyed.

Women of Courage

Ms T N Traynor
T N Traynor Author Interview

Hope in Liverpool follows a dejected young woman who finds renewed hope in a handsome stranger that provides the prospect of a better life. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

My Women of Courage series is a set of standalone stories, all of which I try to find a courageous female as the lead. In all my books in this series I would like to inspire or encourage. Hope in Liverpool is about showing that although we can go through extremely sad things in life, if we look towards hope we can be pulled out of the mire.

Each book has a unique place and time in history. I decided on Liverpool in 1958 because my mum has told me of what life was like for her back then. This isn’t her story at all, but the things like the dance hall she went to and meeting boyfriends at the pictures came from her stories.

Hope is an intriguing character that was well developed. What were some driving ideals behind her character’s development?

I have suffered from depression in the past, and pulling yourself up out of the black pit (because nobody else can do this for you) was a very hard thing to manage. Desmond Tutu’s quote – ‘hope is being able to see that there is light, despite all the darkness’ means so much to me, and this quote was the inspiration behind this story.

Hope’s character, therefore, needed to go through dark places to be able to appreciate the light when she found it.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

The main theme of this book is hope, I touch on forgiveness a tiny bit because I believe unforgiveness can hold us in the dark.

I also don’t think everyone ends up with a fairytale romance marriage, however, that doesn’t mean they are unhappy, so another theme is that not all marriages may be like Cinderella and Prince Charming, however, they can be full of love and kindness.

I try in each of my books to bring the settings to life, I do extensive research on how people lived, what they wore etc before I start any of my books, so besides making sure the characters were believable I always want to ensure the setting is just right, so the last theme would be Liverpool how it was in 1958.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I am currently working on the last book in this series. Although it is about a very courageous young woman, it is in lots of ways different to the other four, which is why I have given it a different style of book cover and title to the others. It is called Brianna Trefae and is set in England in 1667. Brianna is a woman of such faith that when she prays for people they are healed, unfortunately, this quickly gets her labeled as a witch, and brings her to the attention of the Witch Finder General. This will be the longest book in the series. I have already started researching what life was like after the civil war and other things. I am hoping it will be released in September 2022, but his is the book that has caught my heart the most and I won’t rush it so Sep is only my aim.
