“Clean Your Dog’s Poop!”
Posted by Literary_Titan

Maya and Waggers: I Have to Scoop What? follows a young girl who rescues a new puppy and leans all that is involved with pet ownership. What was the inspiration for your story?
I knew I wanted to write a humorous series for middle grade readers (ages 8-12) that was (an age appropriate) spinoff of the young adult story of Blaze Union and the Puddin’ Head Schools, using Blaze’s little sister Maya as the protagonist. I wanted to weave in themes of dog care and responsibility while continuing the absurdity of the Puddin’ Heads vs. the Sweeties because the us vs. them polarization and thinking in the U.S. and beyond has become so ridiculous that even six-year-olds can see it. Because Maya’s best friend is a Sweetie visiting Puddin’ Head Island, the themes of friendship and courage are taken to new levels. I thought it would be interesting if the series revolved around an entire nation (Island Nation) suddenly having dogs for the first time. And Maya would be in the middle of learning how to take care of a rescue puppy, Waggers. My family’s lab mix, which has a ridiculous wagging tail, inspired the creation of Waggers. The character Boofie was inspired by pillow fights with my niece (boof!). Community complaints on social media about “clean your dog’s poop!” inspired book #1.
What were the morals you were trying to capture while creating your characters?
The values of responsibility, friendship, community, critical thinking, and inclusion rise to the top. As one reader said to me, “In a funny way, this story teaches kids to think critically.” That made my day.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
Find the courage to face fears and question ludicrous ideas. See the joy, wonder, and beauty alongside the mundane. Stand up for what’s right, even when it’s hard. Find the unity in diversity.
What will the next book in that series be about and when will it be published?
It will be an even wilder story involving a stolen pooper scooper and a firestorm of upset neighbors. Spring 2024.

“I Have to Scoop What?” follows Maya and her best friend Lily’s hilarious efforts to take care of a new rescue puppy, Waggers, at Uncle Puddin’ Head’s home. But Maya refuses to scoop poop, her uncle really, really cares about his perfect lawn, and the odd neighbors aren’t exactly fans of Maya’s creative solutions in their yards.
A humorous tale of friendship, responsibility, and courage within one of the strangest neighborhoods you will ever see, hear, or smell.
A chapter book for ages 8 and up. I Have to Scoop What? is the book series launch of Maya and Waggers!

Posted by Literary Titan

Dolly’s Doodle Dreams: An Interactive Tale of Perseverance and Mindset by Melissa Eastin stands as a distinguished addition to children’s literature, offering both a compelling narrative and an interactive experience that engages young readers on multiple levels. The book introduces its audience to Dolly, an exuberant doodle dog with a zest for adventure and an upcoming challenge: learning to walk on a leash. Through Dolly’s journey, Eastin deftly weaves themes of patience, practice, and perseverance, illustrating the empowering message that children can achieve anything with the right mindset.
Eastin’s narrative is not only a story to be read but an experience to be lived. Readers are not mere spectators to Dolly’s adventure; they are active participants, invited to help Dolly make choices along the way. This interactive element is ingeniously integrated, turning the act of reading into a dynamic exercise in decision-making and problem-solving. It’s a brilliant strategy to reinforce the book’s themes, as young readers practice the very perseverance and mindset Dolly embodies. The illustrations in the book are as lively and engaging as the story itself. They capture Dolly’s playful spirit with vivid colors and dynamic expressions, making each page feel like a scene from a delightful cartoon. This visual appeal is not just an adornment but a crucial part of the storytelling, enhancing the reader’s connection to Dolly and her world. Eastin’s use of encouraging language throughout the book is commendable. It serves a dual purpose: providing Dolly with the motivation to continue her quest and introducing young readers to a plethora of empowering vocabulary. This linguistic choice enriches the readers’ experience, expanding their language skills while instilling valuable life lessons about perseverance and resilience.
Dolly’s Doodle Dreams by Melissa Eastin is a multi-dimensional tool for growth and engagement. With its interactive narrative, vibrant illustrations, and motivational language, it is an exemplary resource for parents and educators looking to inspire a love of reading and a growth mindset in young individuals. Eastin has not only created a delightful story but also a platform for learning and empowerment that resonates with its audience long after the last page is turned.

Those Aren’t Eye Boogies
Posted by Literary_Titan
Good Boy Lukey & the Dream Crumbs follows a young puppy who has magical abilities to protect children as they dream and give them only happy dreams. What was the inspiration for your story?
The inspiration to write Good Boy Lukey & the Dream Crumbs came from my my daughter’s Great Pyrenees pup, Luke. (My grandboy). Great Pyrenees were bred to be guard dogs, so they are inherently protective. Their instinct is to be kind to and patient with all vulnerable animals. Lukey has certainly lived up to his heritage and he takes great pride in protecting his flock (our family). One morning, as I was cleaning the ‘sleepies’ from Lukey’s eyes, I referred to them as ‘eye boogies’. My son, who was there, immediately said, “Mom, those aren’t eye boogies, those are dream crumbs.” And so Good Boy Lukey & the Dream Crumbs was born from there. And since children are one of the most vulnerable groups in our society, who better to watch over and protect them, than Good Boy Lukey, ultimate guardian of the night.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
Not only was Good Boy Lukey written for dog lovers (especially those who have Great Pyrenees), but for children who may have trouble falling asleep or who may need a little protection. Children can awaken and actually see the ‘dream crumbs’ (kind of like Santa’s disappearing cookies on Christmas morning.) This can hopefully give them the confidence to go to sleep again that night, knowing Good Boy Lukey is there magically protecting them.
I felt this story was very well written. What’s your experience as a writer?
I have no experience as a writer, and this was my first attempt at writing, illustrating and self-publishing a book. I’m a Director in Human Resources (Benefits) at a local university, where I’ve worked for the last 13 years.
Is this the first book in the series? If so, when is the next book coming out and what can your fans expect in the next story?
The is the only book so far, but my kids are encouraging me to continue the Good Boy Lukey story in a series, so we’ll see…….

Tiney Tiny Turner I Feel Different
Posted by Literary Titan

Tiney Tiny Turner is the very definition of “great things come in small packages.” He is a wonderful friend and an encouragement to everyone he meets, and he is beyond determined to succeed. He might be incredibly small in stature, but he manages to build the confidence of those around him with affirmations as he spreads the good news that being different is definitely a good thing. His priority is leading others to be themselves and be comfortable in their own skin. Tiney Tiny Turner, always smiling, is quite the firecracker.
Tiney Tiny Turner: I Feel Different, written by Webilor Ediale and illustrated by Shiela Alejandro, is a children’s book designed to help readers learn to appreciate the differences in others as well as their own. Throughout the book, Ediale keeps the narrative focused on how size, shape, and skin color do not define us but make us unique and make our gifts stand out.
Alejandro’s illustrations are eye-catching, with vibrant colors and characters with whom readers will relate. There is something for every reader within the pages of Ediale’s book. Tiney Tiny Turner is a likable character who captures the imagination of readers with his miniature stature and his bigger-than-life personality. The book’s encouraging words and engaging illustrations make for a fun read overall.
Tiney Tiny Turner: I Feel Different is written in rhyming verse with an extensive vocabulary that may prove challenging for younger readers, but does provide an opportunity for discussion and learning. I recommend Ediale’s book to those who want to spark discussions about appreciating differences and remaining upbeat and determined in the face of adversity.
