How to Save Your Pet, Yourself, and Your Wallet From Pain and Suffering

For many pet owners who consider their cats or dogs as their “fur babies,” it can be challenging to know what to do when their beloved animal is in trouble. Many people lavish their pets with as much attention and care as they would a pampered human child. That’s why it can be so devastating when a pet has an accident or their life is in danger. However, many of these incidents can be avoided with some simple precautions and planning. By learning how to avoid common pet-related problems, you, your pet, and your finances can all be much happier.

This is the premise of How to Save Your Pet, Yourself, and Your Wallet from Pain and Suffering, by Aaron Vine. The author, an expert in veterinary medicine, writes with a great deal of authority on the subject. His style is easygoing and breezy, aiming not to lecture but to ensure the happiness of both you and your pets by sharing various anecdotes from his long and successful career.

Vine shares the ups and downs his clinic experiences on any given day. Some pet owners come in with situations so outlandish they would be laughable if an animal’s life weren’t in danger. However, as many unexpected animal-related catastrophes as Vine sees, he remains adamant that there are patterns to pet-related trauma that are usually avoidable. Vine wants to show pet owners, through humorous escapades, that sparing your pet’s life—and often your bank account—is indeed possible. There will always be serious medical situations with animals that are unavoidable, as they are all mortal. That being said, if you take to heart the lessons that this book teaches, it’s much more likely you and your pet can enjoy many contented years together.

How to Save Your Pet, Yourself, and Your Wallet from Pain and Suffering is a must-read for any pet owner. Aaron Vine’s engaging narrative and practical advice make it an invaluable resource for preventing common pet-related mishaps. This book is highly recommended for anyone looking to ensure the well-being and happiness of their furry companions.

Through Webster’s Eyes

Author Interview
Frank Payne Author Interview

Webster the Beagle and His Adventures at the River follows an adventurous beagle who gets lost and finds his forever home as a therapy dog. What was the inspiration for your story?

The inspiration for this story came from the time that I spent with Webster at one of the places I love, the Rappahannock River, and the animals that live on it or in it. I thought it was important to tell their story through Webster’s eyes as he looked at them in wonder the first time he saw them – or maybe that was just surprise when the crab pinched him on the nose!

The art in this book is fantastic. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Romney Vasquez?

Romney Vasquez is the best in the business and made the process very simple. He asked me what was being written on each page and what I wanted for artwork but we didn’t know each other and I had never written any kind of book before. Once he read thru a draft, he provided his own ideas and produced some sketch art to send me. When I saw the sketches for the first book, I couldn’t believe them because Romney had captured Webster’s essence so perfectly—especially the joy and smiles he brought to everyone. With this being our second book, we knew what worked, and I don’t remember making any changes because, to me, it’s the illustrations that make the books such a success.

When is the next book in the series coming out, and what can your fans expect in the next story?

I’m not sure when or if there will be another book. I was inspired by Webster to write the first one and thought it was important to tell his story. The series allows me to make donations to various charities in his name so he will always be remembered. Although my wife and I did adopt a very mischievous beagle, Billy, who is an Envigo (4,000 beagles were rescued from unsafe conditions at a breeding facility in Virginia, the company, Envigo, behind it has agreed to pay a record $35 million in fines) rescue beagle and has already had quite a few adventures himself…

This is the story of Webster the beagle and his adventures at the Rappahannock River, whose tale of hope will inspire you to never give up on your dreams. Sometimes we think we’re lost when really, we’re just hoping to be found.

Webster the Beagle and His Adventures at the River

Webster the Beagle and His Adventures at the River is a heartwarming tale of a beagle named Webster who, after getting lost, finds his forever home and becomes a cherished therapy dog. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Rappahannock River, Webster’s adventures with various river critters are beautifully depicted, teaching young readers about resilience, friendship, and the wonders of nature.

Author Frank Payne’s writing is engaging and educational. The narrative flows smoothly, making it easy for young readers to follow Webster’s journey. Payne has a knack for blending adventure with learning, as seen in the fascinating “Did You Know?” sections scattered throughout the book. These tidbits about ospreys, blue crabs, oysters, and rockfish are not just informative, they are a fun way for children to learn about the world around them, enhancing the storytelling by providing context to Webster’s experiences.

One of my favorite parts of this children’s book is when Webster ventures down the pier in spring to check on the ospreys. This section beautifully captures the cycle of life and the rhythm of nature, reinforcing the book’s theme of continuity and homecoming. The playful tone and the light-hearted humor, like when Webster gets pinched by a crab, add a delightful touch to the story.

The illustrations by Romney Vasquez are a perfect complement to Payne’s story. They are vibrant and full of life, bringing Webster and his adventures to life in a way that is sure to captivate young readers. The depiction of the river and its inhabitants is particularly well done, with each page offering something new to discover. The illustrations support the story and provide additional layers of meaning and engagement, making the reading experience more enjoyable.

Webster the Beagle and His Adventures at the River is a charming and educational picture book I highly recommend. It’s perfect for children who love animals and nature and for parents looking for a story that combines adventure with learning. The book’s heartwarming message about finding one’s place in the world and the joy of new discoveries makes it a delightful addition to any child’s bookshelf.

Embracing Differences

Wanda Reyes Author Interview

In Valentino’s Purpose, young readers learn to celebrate diversity and uniqueness alongside a lively Goldendoodle preparing to become a service dog. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

Valentino, my own PTSD service dog, he was the heart and soul of this story. He was truly extraordinary. He wore clothes and shoes and had a personality that was almost human. He had a heart of gold and touched so many lives. The idea of using him to teach children about embracing differences came naturally.

Valentino was different. He wore clothes, which made him stand out. He was a service dog, a role that not all dogs play. This made him a perfect example for young readers to understand that being different isn’t just okay, it’s something to celebrate.

What character did you enjoy writing for most?

Valentino because he was more than just a service dog. He was my best friend, my confidant, and a constant source of love and support. He taught me so much about resilience, compassion, and the importance of embracing differences. I’m so grateful for the time I had with him, and I hope his story will inspire others to be kind and accepting.

The illustrations in your book are fantastic. Can you share with us a little about your collaboration with illustrator Lilly Walther?

The vibrant colors and charming characters in Valentino’s Purpose are a testament to the incredible collaboration between myself and illustrator Lilly Walther. It all began when Lilly, one of Valentino’s 3,500 Instagram followers, reached out after I shared my dream of writing a book. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and it was clear she wanted to be a part of this creative journey. From the very start, we knew we had a special connection. I envisioned a world filled with bright, happy colors, and Lilly’s talent perfectly captured that vision. We spent countless hours discussing the characters, the settings, and the overall atmosphere we wanted to create. My artistic knowledge, combined with Lilly’s incredible skill, resulted in illustrations that not only brought the story to life but also added a layer of depth and emotion.

Can young readers look forward to seeing more from Valentino in the future? What are you currently working on?

With five new Valentino books poised for publication, the future of my beloved Valentino is bright. Readers can anticipate a world of new adventures, unexpected twists, and the enduring power of storytelling that has captivated audiences from the very beginning.

My goal is to create stories that not only entertain but also inspire.

I want young readers to feel empowered to face their own challenges and to believe that anything is possible.

Engaging Content

Cindy B. Witty Author Interview

Curious Chris – Why No Flamingos? follows a curious young boy and his parents who decide it is time to get a family pet. What was the inspiration for your story?

The inspiration for Curious Chris-Why No Flamingos? was our son Chris who was very curious. He used the word, “falingmo,” for the word flamingo, and I wanted to find a way to use it in a story. I incorporated the way we got our dog, Charlie, from our local pet shelter, and thus the story was born.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

As a former English teacher, I know how important it is to create engaging content, so young readers will want to read more. I want children to know that curiosity is encouraged, yet parents may need help sometimes. In addition, I want everyone to know that pet adoption is the best way for people to get a new pet. Finally, many times, children are not going to get their way, so I wanted to offer a story for young readers to see a child pivot when his/her dream isn’t available.

The collaboration with illustrator Sally Garland resulted in exceptional art in this book. How was the process managed, and what were some of the key factors that contributed to the successful outcome?

Sally Garland is an amazing illustrator, and she and I consulted prior to her illustrating my story. She wanted to create a scene where Chris dreamed of a perfect scenario of Chris and his falingmo which is how she created the swimming pool scene.

Is this the first book in the series? If so, when is the next book coming out, and what can your fans expect in the next story?

As of right now, this is the only book and not a series, and I have not thought of a follow-up book as of right now. However, I will never say never.

Chris is a curious boy who asks his parents a lot of questions.
“Why is the sky blue? Why doesn’t the sun smoke if it’s so hot? Why can’t it rain cotton candy?”
His exhausted parents decide it’s time for a pet. For the first time, Chris has no questions to ask because he knows exactly the pet to choose. But when adoption day finally arrives, Chris needs to make a choice. Will he find his pet at the local animal shelter?

You Can Find Humor Everywhere

Gary John Author Interview

In Queen Molly and the Summer Palace, a German Shepherd and her owner venture northward to enjoy the cooler temperatures and embark on new summer adventures. Where did the idea for this story come from?

I have lived part of the year in PA and part of the year in FL for several years; a reverse snowbird, I guess. Of course, that means two road trips a year with my various dogs. Two years ago, I made the trip with Molly for the first time, and her responses to all the new experiences fascinated me. I thought a book written from her perspective might be kind of fun to write and read.

Is there anything from your own life that you put into Molly’s adventures?

All of Molly’s adventures have a basis in reality. I guess I am more observant than I am creative.

I enjoyed the humor woven throughout your book. How important is it for you to create lighthearted moments in your children’s books?

I have come to the conclusion that my greatest contribution to this world, behind my wonderful daughters, is adding a little humor to it. So many people seem to be taking everything so, so seriously! I believe humor helps put everything in perspective. I have always been able to laugh at myself and, fortunately, have helped my kids adopt that attitude, and they’re happier for it. If I can let other kids know that the world can be a fun place and you can find humor everywhere if you look for it, that’s a good thing.

Can readers look forward to a third book in the Molly series? If so, when will it be available?

Yes, I will be writing one more book in this series. When Molly and I returned from the Winter Palace, Meghan was pregnant. Readers will be able to see that pregnancy through Molly’s eyes. As to timing, I hope for late Spring. I need to scrape up enough money to pay for my Illustrator! I am definitely not in this for the money.
