Value Chain of Wealth

Author Interview
Adrian Cui Author Interview

Financial Freedom in 100 Months is a step-by-step guide to escaping financial dependence in just over eight years while exploring happiness, simple living, and long-term fulfillment, making it more than just a wealth-building manual. What inspired you to write this book and share your knowledge?

In today’s world, many people are struggling with money and don’t know how to build wealth. As a CPA, management consultant, and value investor, I would like to share my knowledge to help people succeed. Financial Freedom is not just a dream. With proper knowledge, everyone can achieve financial freedom.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

To achieve financial freedom, firstly, people need to understand the value chain of wealth. This is a very important concept for building wealth. This value chain of wealth begins with education, followed by career development and culminating in personal finance, including retirement planning. The more you earn, the more you save, the more you can invest your money and achieve financial freedom.

There are 2 ways to achieve financial freedom: the easy and slow way is index investing; the hard and fast way is active investing.

For successful active investment, people need to look for value and have a deep understanding of the investment opportunities. Stock investing is the easiest one to start with, you need to have a good understanding of macro analysis, fundamental analysis, technical analysis, and cycle analysis. There is really a lot to learn for successful investment. I have recommended some must-read books in Chapter 8.

In this book, I have also shared a hidden gem stock investment opportunity. Since the book was published in October 2024, the stock has already appreciated more than 100% in just 3 months. This shows the power of value investing. This stock still has lots of room for growth.

What is one thing people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

One reader mentioned that he liked the sections on building happiness and the importance of a well-balanced lifestyle. I’m glad to see that people are interested in a balanced life instead of just focusing on money. The whole purpose of financial freedom is to enjoy a better life. So I have included some chapters specifically for achieving a better life.

Another reader thinks there is too much on living healthy, diet, happiness, friendships, and psychology. I have tried my best to include only the most critical ideas in the book. I believe they are very important ideas that can help people achieve financial freedom while living a more balanced life.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from Financial Freedom in 100 Months?

To achieve financial freedom in 100 months is hard, but achievable. You need to have a positive mindset and believe in yourself. The book has laid out a foundation for your success, but you need to put in great efforts and try your best. Good luck to your financial freedom journey!

Financial Freedom In 100 Months

Imagine waking up with zero financial stress, no nine-to-five grind, and the freedom to live life on your terms. That’s the promise of Financial Freedom in 100 Months, a step-by-step guide to escaping financial dependence in just over eight years. The book walks you through defining financial freedom, calculating your personal “freedom number,” building savings, and investing wisely in stocks, real estate, and even cryptocurrency. It doesn’t stop at money; it explores happiness, simple living, and long-term fulfillment, making it more than just a wealth-building manual.

What I appreciated most was the book’s no-nonsense approach to saving and investing. The chapter Set Your Target and Start Saving for Investment really drives home a critical point: financial freedom isn’t about luck, it’s about discipline. The author emphasizes saving as a non-negotiable habit, cutting unnecessary expenses and making strategic sacrifices early on to enjoy a wealthier future. It’s practical and motivating. The investment advice is solid, especially the sections on stock market fundamentals and real estate investing. The BRRRR Strategy (Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance, Repeat) stood out as a particularly insightful approach to building wealth through property investment. It’s clear, actionable, and realistic.

The chapter on cryptocurrency investment felt overly optimistic. While it acknowledges the risks, it leans too much into the idea that crypto is a must-have asset. For someone new to investing, the volatility and uncertainty of crypto could be overwhelming. The book also introduces broad philosophical ideas about happiness, simple living, and career fulfillment, which, while interesting, feel a bit disconnected from the core financial roadmap. These sections could have been tied back to the central strategy more effectively.

I really liked how the book doesn’t just focus on getting rich but also on staying financially free. The chapter Live a Decent Life When You Get Old is a refreshing addition. Many financial books stop at retirement, but this one considers longevity, health, and maintaining happiness in later years. It reminds you that financial freedom isn’t just about having money; it’s about living well with that money. The final chapters tie everything together with timeless wisdom about habits, creativity, and the power of simplicity, which makes the book feel holistic rather than just another “get rich quick” guide.

This book is great for those who are serious about financial independence, especially beginners who want a structured plan. If you struggle with saving or don’t know where to start with investing, this book lays it out clearly. But if you’re already financially savvy, some sections may feel a bit basic. Financial Freedom in 100 Months is an engaging, practical, and motivating read for anyone ready to take control of their financial future.

Empowering Women

Gayle Marshall Author Interview

Surviving a Man’s World: A Woman’s Guide to Achieving Financial Success gives readers the relevant knowledge and guidance to develop and implement a financial plan that will meet their individual goals. Why was this an important book for you to write?

This was important to me from two main perspectives. As a risk management professional, I felt compelled to share some of this information that I realized was not commonly understood. Financial self-help books are generally designed to balance the scales that are heavily weighted towards those with the ability to maximize their knowledge of financial matters; and have increased likelihood of success in achieving their financial goals. I wanted to do my part there.

More importantly, from a female perspective, this provided an irresistible opportunity to share my knowledge with other females globally who may not only be dealing with severe financial challenges, but also with gender inequality issues that act as barriers to them ever being able to reverse or improve their situations. I kept thinking that these women could have been a family member, a friend, or it could even have been me. I felt that writing this book gave me a chance to help and empower women across the world, who are experiencing varying levels of financially derived struggles and don’t know where to turn.

How have you managed to simplify complex financial concepts for the average person while ensuring they remain engaged and empowered?

The idea behind the book was that the content be kept very simple. This would allow it to act as a guide for people completely without knowledge of some of the day-to-day financial matters that could make even the smallest impact on their circumstances. However, the material could also be useful as a reminder or refresher for people who may already be familiar, but in an overwhelming situation their anxiety causes them to forget. In making that determination early in my writing, it became much easier to stick to my purpose.

The editor of the book also did a fantastic job in adding that additional element of maintaining consistency of that simplicity, both in the words used and the grammatical structure of the book. This consistency helped to ensure that readers who started the book didn’t become confused midway and lose interest or become frustrated. It was very important to me that the book be clearly understood by lay people and not come off as too academic. Academia can be very helpful in seeking in-depth knowledge of a topic. However, it can also be intimidating to those who are just trying to get a basic understanding of something with which they are unfamiliar.

What experience in your life has had the biggest impact on your writing?

It started for me when I saw a lady enter the insurance company where I worked, completely overcome with grief at the death of her spouse. She had received a cancellation letter for an insurance policy she didn’t even know existed to protect her and her family. Her spouse was the breadwinner and therefore managed all the financial obligations in the household. This encounter opened my mind to other similar circumstances of unpaid mortgages and debt obligations, as well as other financial responsibilities that fell through the cracks due to lack of awareness by the person already suffering a significant loss.

I saw and heard these stories related to women of all ages; some having lost spouses to death or breakup, and some unfortunate enough never to have had that support in their lives at all. Their circumstances and lack of knowledge essentially exposed them to potential hardships. Seeing the extent of the impact of this knowledge gap in the media portrayal of female poverty and inequality made me feel an even more urgent need to write the book to do my part in helping these women.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from Surviving a Man’s World?

I want that in reading Surviving a Man’s World, people come away with an increased feeling of hope. Too often the depth of anxiety caused by financial challenges can leave people paralyzed with despair. In some cases, some of the information captured in the book is already known, but in the ensuing panic of having lost control of their financial circumstances, the panic tends to overshadow their ability to reason. I have found in these and other types of traumatic situations, that sometimes just seeing a documented plan or solution, and knowing that some guidance or assistance is close to hand, can significantly reduce panic being experienced to create a feeling of comfort and peace of mind. This is what I hope I can give, through my book, to the people who really need it most.

Rethink Your Financial Health

Book Review

In Rethink Your Financial Health: Sharing the Manual – Four Lenses to Financial Healing & Wholeness, A. J. Uitvlugt uses absorbing stories to initiate conversations about money and finances. Everyone spends money, but not all know how to handle their finances effectively. Often, you will see people misusing or struggling to balance their earnings and spending. So how does one know how to form a healthy relationship with their finances? Do schools teach enough about finances? Do parents have conversations with their children about money? A.J. Uitvlugt is here to share with readers tips on dealing with money, whether a bit of money or huge finances and how to create a healthy financial journey for yourself and others.

Rethink Your Financial Health is an excellent read because of the stories and relatable experiences the author writes about. Each story told each expertise shared in the book, and every lesson the author gives is critical in every step. I found the distinct arrangement of this book helpful. A new chapter does not feel fresh but rather an extension of previous lessons. Every chapter starts with a quote from notable icons in history. And not just random quotes commonly used but quotes that help readers reflect on their financial habits and general approach to life. One of my favorite quotes in the book, ‘Fear is a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life’ by Donald Miller.

Readers can enjoy this book because everything is organized into easy-to-find and comprehended sections. The paragraphs are short and easy to complete, and the author highlighted the main points in bullet points for better visibility. I also enjoyed reading this book because the author had a section for exercises and the reader’s reflection apart from the main discussion. The training gives one a chance to put into practice what is taught in the book. At the same time, the reflections are a vital part of the process so that readers will have a more insightful conversation with themself and a deeper understanding of their financial situation.

One of my favorite parts of the book was when the author addresses money myths. The author writes about myths like the work pays more myth, the must-buy myth peddled when buying versus renting debates are brought up, and the invincible myth examined during discussions on insurance. The author cordially educates readers on these myths, which is an excellent idea as many people tend to fall for some.

A. J. Uitvlugt’s writing is relatable and engaging, and she uses real-life situations to convey her message. Rethink Your Financial Health: Sharing the Manual – Four Lenses to Financial Healing & Wholeness is an excellent book for financial literacy lessons and a great reference material for readers needing reminders about their relationship with money.

With examples, the author shares the advantages of planning and how to easily achieve your set goals

He openly talks about the fantasies that people dream of in self-employment. He shuts down the myths and the lies. By talking about his experiences and facts, readers will see real-life examples of the topics he discusses.

One of the best pieces of advice I found in this eye-opening book is that having your own business does not mean that you are in charge of everything. The methods Shaw uses are tried and tested, which is excellent as it gives his readers confidence in the advice he is presenting. There are plenty of lessons in the book about topics that relate to self-employment. Topics about personal development, getting out of your comfort zone, marketing, building business models, creative and critical thinking, and referrals were terrific to read. Each of the 3 parts of the book has something that will benefit a student or novice in self-employment.

The Self-Employed Life is an intellectually invigorating book for readers that enjoy entrepreneurship, personal finance, and business-related content. Using the information contained in this book, readers will better understand what it means to be self-employed and what to plan for.

With the author’s experience, he provides advice to help readers understand what to ask for at work, beat your competitors, the power of your signature, be bold, and understand the art of negotiation.

Stein’s writing style is direct and easy to follow. His advice for business leaders such as executives, founders of organizations, entrepreneurs, and company decision-makers is realistic and blunt. In addition, the author gives a step-by-step breakdown when introducing a new topic to ensure comprehension.

The author uses personal stories to share his ideas and present his concepts. By writing about his encounters, challenges, and wins, Stein connects with his readers on a basic level, showing he has been where they are before. I appreciate the author for addressing people employed by organizations and those who are self-employed. The author balanced the guidance he has for the two groups flawlessly.

In addition to the in-depth discussions on negotiating, Stein includes a section in the book where he tells stories of entrepreneurs and executives. What I loved most about this part was how moving the stories felt. They were told with honesty and without sugar coating the experiences. The conversations were interesting and captivating to follow along with. Each story ended with a lesson for readers to take away with them.
