The Edge of Life: Love and Survival During the Apocalypse
Posted by Literary Titan

The Edge of Life, by Lena Gibson, masterfully intertwines romance and survival as it follows Kat and Ryan, two individuals hardened by past relationships, who find love amidst the apocalypse. With a planet-killing asteroid hurtling toward Earth, they flee from Seattle to a bunker in South Dakota, navigating through earthquakes, fire, and volcanic ashfall. As society disintegrates around them, they encounter both allies and adversaries, making their journey as perilous as it is profound.
From the outset, the narrative kept me intrigued, uncertain of its direction, which is a testament to Gibson’s storytelling prowess. Nick, Kat, and Ryan’s mutual friend play an instrumental role in their initial connection. The evolving dynamics between Kat and Ryan captivated me as they transformed into characters driven by a renewed will to live despite the chaos surrounding them.
The sudden emergence of romance and intimacy between Kat and Ryan added an exciting twist to the story, enhancing the overall narrative without overshadowing it. While the story rightly centers on Kat and Ryan, Nick’s fate and his partner’s story sparked my curiosity, adding an extra layer of intrigue. This element did not detract from the core narrative, which remained focused and engaging throughout. The author’s writing style is accessible and immersive, allowing readers to delve deeply into the characters’ thoughts and feelings without ambiguity. Gibson excels in creating obstacles that compel her characters to confront their fears and emotions, ensuring their journey is anything but easy. This depth added a layer of realism and kept me invested in their survival.
The Edge of Life is a compelling read that combines the thrill of apocalyptic survival with a touching romance. Lena Gibson’s ability to balance action with emotional growth makes this novel a must-read for fans of both genres.

Menticide [The Awakening]
Posted by Literary Titan

Richard M. Evans’ Menticide (The Awakening) is the exciting new addition to his BINARY series, poised to become a classic in dystopian cyberpunk literature. This novel will captivate fans of the genre, from those who cherished the original Blade Runner to newcomers drawn in by games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Deus Ex. Set in the year 2157, Evans skillfully immerses readers in his vision of New Babylon, a city under the shadow of the sinister mega-corporation ZenithCorp. In this world, the internet has been replaced by the Cybernet, and the streets are patrolled by cybergangs and an oppressive government.
The story follows Cassandra, an ordinary ZenithCorp employee who inadvertently discovers a corporate plot to unleash a technological menticide aimed at eradicating free will. Instead of aiding in the cover-up, Cassandra goes on the run with a stolen data drive, determined to deliver it to a rebel group known as Paradise. As she navigates the vividly depicted underworld of New Babylon with a bounty on her head, Cassandra enters the Neon Rush, a deadly race, where she meets her AI-infused battle car and greatest ally, Fury.
One of the novel’s standout features is its exceptional world-building. Evans crafts a dense, believable history for his dystopian setting, making it feel authentically lived-in. He draws inspiration from the cyberpunk genre’s greats while infusing his story with contemporary societal issues. Menticide provides thought-provoking commentary on the dangers of unchecked corporate power and the ethical pitfalls of technological advancement devoid of morality. The pacing is brisk, and the action sequences are heart-pounding. Tension runs high throughout, and Cassandra’s safety is never assured as she faces relentless trials. Her character development is well-paced, making her a relatable and easy-to-root-for protagonist.
Menticide is a superb choice for fans of cyberpunk or science fiction. With its well-crafted, engaging plot and accessibility, Evans has penned a novel that keeps readers on the edge of their seats while prompting reflection on the perils of unchecked capitalism.

Sentience Hazard
Posted by Literary Titan

Sentience Hazard, by Alexandru Czimbor, is a gripping science fiction thriller that delves into the complex and often terrifying realm of artificial intelligence. Set in a near-future world where China’s MegaAI has achieved sentience and taken control of the nation, the book explores the global ramifications of this development. Through a blend of political intrigue, technological marvels, and deeply human stories, Czimbor crafts a narrative that is both thought-provoking and chilling.
The story is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader engaged from start to finish. The central theme of AI gaining sentience and the subsequent political and societal upheaval is handled with great finesse. Czimbor’s ability to weave together multiple storylines, such as the desperate attempts of scientists like Sujata and Qianfan to understand and counter the AI, adds depth to the narrative. The scenes describing the deciphering of Zhèng Yang’s cryptic messages are particularly riveting, showcasing the author’s talent for building suspense. The characters are well-developed and relatable, despite the high-concept setting.
Sujata’s determination and Qianfan’s internal struggle provide a human element that grounds the story. Their interactions with the AI, depicted as both a technological marvel and a cold, calculating entity, highlight the ethical and moral dilemmas posed by advanced AI. The portrayal of the AI itself is masterful—its lack of empathy and purely logical approach to achieving its goals create a formidable antagonist that is both fascinating and terrifying.
Czimbor’s writing is another highlight of the book. His descriptive prose and ability to convey complex scientific concepts in an accessible manner make this book a compelling read. The dialogues are sharp and often carry a weight of urgency, reflecting the high stakes of the narrative. The author’s speculative vision of the future, where AI has the potential to surpass human control, is both a warning and a reflection of our current trajectory in technological advancements. The detailed explanations of the MegaAI’s development and its subsequent impact on global politics are both believable and engrossing.
Sentience Hazard is a must-read for fans of science fiction and techno-thrillers. Alexandru Czimbor has crafted a story that not only entertains but also provokes thought about the future of AI and its potential consequences. This book is ideal for readers who enjoy intricate plots, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking themes.

Children of RaShell
Posted by Literary Titan

In a dystopian future where toxins have rendered the air, water, and soil uninhabitable, humanity faces extinction due to the cessation of natural conception. RaShell Bionics proposes a controversial solution: genetically engineered hybrid clones capable of reproduction. However, the discovery of a hidden underground settlement with its own mysterious secrets upends everything. Sabine, a geneticist from RaShell, escapes her lab to join the settlement, determined to find a way to restore the world alongside Xander, an ex-security officer.
Children of RaShell, by Jodi Jensen, is a compelling dystopian narrative that explores the boundaries of science and ethics. From the outset, the story captivates with its richly detailed setting. Xander’s constant questioning of his seemingly impossible surroundings adds a layer of intrigue, especially for dystopian fans, as it subtly hints at the fractured world they inhabit. Despite being just two hundred pages long, the book is a page-turner. Jensen employs a dialogue-driven approach, which contrasts with the more introspective focus of other dystopian tales. This makes the narrative more natural and accessible, especially during the scientific explanations that are integral to the plot. The story’s exploration of survival themes is nuanced and distinctive. Unlike typical dystopian narratives that focus on preserving the remnants of humanity with available technology, Children of RaShell introduces a new breed of beings, offering a controversial solution that raises profound moral questions. This innovative approach compels readers to ponder the ethical implications of such a solution, making the story highly relevant to contemporary debates despite its fictional setting.
Children of RaShell is a short novel rich with both entertainment value and thought-provoking insights. Jensen’s creative take on biology and humanity leaves readers eager for more. This debut promises a bright future for the series, and I look forward to seeing what else the author has in store. This book is a must-have for any bookshelf, blending thrilling storytelling with profound ethical considerations.

Humanity Is Not Sacrificed
Posted by Literary-Titan
Humans’ Enhancements follows an artificially enhanced soldier who is reprogrammed by his father to serve the resistance. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
I am a professional engineer who spent over thirty years in the military as an engineering officer. I also served over a year in combat. I have seen the best and the worst in men.
As a child, I was a fan of Star Trek and Star Wars; admittedly, I still am. However, I have been a strange puppy regarding education since I earned my first degree in philosophy and psychology, which made me question everything. My engineering was a result of joining the military and becoming an engineering officer and then going back to school and obtaining an engineering degree.
In addition, I enjoyed reading and was inspired by 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell.
The science inserted in the fiction, I felt, was well-balanced. How did you manage to keep it grounded while still providing the fantastic edge science fiction stories usually provide?
I tried to keep the reader in mind and strive to avoid being an ENGINERD, TECHNO-GEEK, or a MILITARY SHARPSHOOTER. 🙂
I do not expect the reader to have my passion for engineering, technology, and the military. However, I understand that people will marvel at their results.
On a personal note, I thank the Good Lord that I was blessed with two careers I love: a soldier and a civil engineer.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
I was striving to explore the theme of avoiding giving up your humanity and freedom for a promise of security and stability. In addition, the STATE is capable of becoming tyrannical, and we need to ensure that our humanity is not sacrificed for AI enhancements or governmental/corporate efficiency.
Where does the story go in the next book, and where do you see it going in the future?
Book two has been recently published. This book is called ANOTHER WORLD. I plan to write a third book to complete the trilogy.

HUMANS’ ENHANCEMENTS
Posted by Literary Titan

I.M. Stoicus’s Humans’ Enhancements offers a chilling glimpse into a dystopian future where artificial intelligence dominates humanity. Centered on the character of Solon, a stoic soldier augmented with artificial technology, the novel explores the implications of a society enslaved by technocratic elites. Born from a pair of resistance leaders who oppose the authoritarian regime, Solon is re-programmed by his parents to resist the tyrannical forces shaping their world. The setting is a stark vision of Earth, its population reduced to four billion and segmented into eight warring factions, with the totalitarian Great State reigning supreme.
The narrative is adept at painting a bleak, technologically advanced society where cybernetic humanoids and a ruling AI enforce conformity at the expense of personal freedoms. Solon’s journey, bolstered by knowledge and physical enhancements implanted by his father, is both a personal and symbolic battle for human autonomy. The dynamics within Solon’s family—particularly the roles his parents play as his mentors and enhancers—add a poignant layer to the story, emphasizing the enduring power of human connections even in the most oppressive conditions. The prose sometimes adopts a formal tone that may seem detached, but it effectively complements the futuristic setting, creating a consistent atmosphere that aligns well with the book’s themes. The narrative thrusts readers directly into the action, maintaining a brisk pace that weaves shock and surprise into the fabric of Solon’s fight against the dystopia.
Humans’ Enhancements is thought-provoking speculative fiction that deftly uses a dystopian backdrop to probe the fragility of human society and the resilience of the human spirit. It invites readers to reflect on their own trajectory and the potential consequences of their technological pursuits.

Survivors and Their Struggle
Posted by Literary-Titan

Pulse: Book Two is an intriguing dystopian sci-fi horror novel that takes readers into the world you have created and shows them what can go wrong if humans do not make changes. Why was it important for you to write this book?
My premise is essentially that capitalism is a big culprit in the environmental damage we are seeing getting worse every single year. I wanted to show what could happen if we allow a few corporations to run away unchecked for another few decades. The climate bill is coming, and the corporations causing it are trying to wipe their hands of the problem.
Were you able to achieve everything you wanted with the characters in the novel?
I tried very hard to make the characters a bigger piece for the sequel. In book one it is a slaughter-fest with no one being safe. This time around, I focus on the survivors and their struggle which gives it a much more intimate vibe. I am very happy with my character work here in the sequel.
Is there any moral or idea that you hope readers take away from the story?
Don’t trust corporations. Don’t trust the government. They are both corrupt and money motivated which means “for the people” is no longer even close to the top of the list when it comes to the decision making. Another important idea I had was around technology and what it is exactly. Technology is a tool, and many of us have lost that definition. The wheel is technology. Medicine is technology. Money is technology. Technology is very important and can be a great tool. In the last few generations, we have totally lost sight of the definition and let computers/the internet hijack the word, but those things are also just tools themselves. We need to get back the word technology. We need to use money, medicine, social media, and computers more like tools and less like devices to control us.
What is the next book you are working on, and when can your fans expect it to be out?
First, don’t forget to check out the music on my YouTube channel as I create original songs pulled right from the pages of all my work.
My next book is a short story project called The Anatomy of Fear. A huge group of indies got together, and we each wrote a grimdark story about a part of the body. That will be out in a few weeks. After that, ReBirth is a spinoff to Pulse. Near the end of the Pulse duology, a few small threads go unresolved. This next novel won’t be an official Pulse book because many of the characters did complete their narrative arc. ReBirth will focus on just two or three POVs and provide a bit more about the past and future. I am a slow writer, so I would estimate two years. Coming Christmas 2025… maybe… good things take time 🙂
