The Beginning of a Journey

Kirt Seuchan Author Interview

THE SAPPHIRE SEAL OF SOLOMON follows a grieving teenager who discovers his grandfather left behind clues and a warning sign linked to the legendary Seal of Solomon. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The inspiration came from the idea that grief can sometimes become the beginning of a journey. I wanted Kai’s discovery to feel personal before it became adventurous. He is not just finding an artifact; he is finding one final message from his grandfather. The hidden Bible compartment, the brass key, the glowing stone, and the warning all grew from that emotional question: what if someone you loved left behind a secret because they trusted you to finish what they could not?

I also wanted the story to feel deeply rooted in Trinidad and Tobago. Many adventure stories send young heroes to faraway temples or lost cities, but I wanted readers to feel that mystery, danger, and wonder could be hidden right here in our own landscape — in our hills, caves, swamps, forts, and islands.

Were there any real stories, legends, or historical mysteries that inspired the novel?

Yes, the novel was inspired by a mixture of biblical legend, Caribbean geography, and the real sense of mystery that exists in Trinidad and Tobago’s history. The Seal of Solomon has long been associated in legend with ancient wisdom, spiritual authority, and hidden power, and that gave the story a strong mythic foundation.

At the same time, the locations in the book are inspired by real places: Pitch Lake, Gasparee Caves, Caroni Swamp, Fort King George in Scarborough, and Little Tobago. Each location has its own atmosphere and history, and I wanted them to feel like natural parts of a treasure-hunt adventure rather than random stops on a map. Trinidad and Tobago has a rich mix of cultures, colonial history, folklore, natural wonders, and sacred spaces. That combination made it the perfect setting for a mystery involving something ancient and powerful.

Which part of Kai’s character did you find most rewarding to write?

The most rewarding part of Kai to write was his quiet courage. He is not a superhero, and he does not begin the story as someone who is ready for danger. He is grieving, uncertain, and still trying to understand the man his grandfather really was. What makes Kai special is not that he is fearless, but that he keeps going even when he is afraid.

I also enjoyed writing his growth from a boy who inherits a mystery into someone who begins to understand responsibility. The Seal is not just a prize to be found; it is something that tests character, motive, and sacrifice. Kai has to learn that some things are powerful because they are hidden, and some truths must be protected before they can be revealed.

Can you give us a glimpse inside Book 2 of The Concealer Chronicles? Where will it take readers?

Book 2 will expand the world beyond Trinidad and Tobago while still keeping Kai’s Caribbean identity at the heart of the story. At the end of Book 1, readers are given a clue pointing toward The Silver Horn and the south of Spain. That clue opens the door to a much larger history of the Concealers, the Obsidian Hand, and other hidden artifacts protected across different parts of the world.

Readers can expect a bigger adventure, new allies, more dangerous enemies, and deeper questions about what it means to guard something powerful. Kai is older, wiser, and more aware that the mystery his grandfather left behind was only one part of a much larger war being fought quietly across generations.

The Sapphire Seal of Solomon is a thrilling Caribbean adventure that blends mystery, faith, family legacy, and hidden history into a fast-moving treasure hunt across Trinidad and Tobago. Fifteen-year-old Kai Ramkissoon is a strong young hero, pulled from ordinary life into a dangerous race against secret enemies who want to control an artifact never meant to be used. What makes the story stand out is its setting: Gasparee Caves, Pitch Lake, Tobago’s cliffs, and other real places become part of a larger mythic mystery. The ending gives readers a satisfying sense of discovery while leaving the door open for a bigger journey ahead. It is an exciting first entry in what feels like a promising adventure series rooted proudly in Caribbean history and imagination.

THE SAPPHIRE SEAL OF SOLOMON: Book One of the Concealer Chronicles

The Sapphire Seal of Solomon, by Kirt Seuchan, is a Caribbean fantasy adventure about Kai Ramkissoon, a grieving teenager who discovers that his grandfather left behind a hidden Bible, a glowing blue stone, a map, and a warning tied to the legendary Seal of Solomon. What begins as a family mystery quickly becomes a dangerous chase across Trinidad and Tobago, with Kai, Anika, Jamal, and a shifting circle of adults trying to reach the truth before Malachi Voss can twist it into something powerful and frightening. As the first book in The Concealer Chronicles, it works as both a treasure-hunt story and a coming-of-age fantasy, rooted in local history, family secrets, and the hard question of what truth is worth.

I was immediately drawn to the story’s setting. The book doesn’t treat Trinidad and Tobago like a postcard or a backdrop. It feels lived in. The rain, the route taxis, the smell of pitch at La Brea, the family kitchens, the sharp humor between friends, all of it gives the adventure a real pulse. I liked that the fantasy grows out of the place instead of being dropped on top of it. The Pitch Lake, Gasparee, Fort King George, and Tobago all feel like they belong to the mystery. That makes the genre work especially well. This is a fantasy adventure, but it’s also a story about inheritance, memory, and what gets buried because people are afraid of what will happen if it is found.

I also appreciated the author’s choice to keep the young characters emotionally believable. Kai is scared, impulsive, and grieving, which makes sense. Anika is the kind of friend who organizes panic into a plan, and that balance gives the story a lot of warmth. Their conversations are often funny without breaking the tension, and I found that refreshing. The book moves quickly, but that speed suits the chase. There are moments when the ancient mystery and the villain’s long game lean into familiar adventure-story territory, but the characters and Caribbean grounding keep it from feeling generic. The strongest idea, for me, is that truth is not treated as a simple prize. It can heal, expose, endanger, and demand sacrifice. That gives the ending more weight than a simple “find the artifact” finale would have.

I would recommend The Sapphire Seal of Solomon to readers who enjoy young adult or middle-grade fantasy adventure with puzzles, hidden histories, dangerous artifacts, and a strong sense of place. Fans of quest stories, treasure hunts, and books where friendship matters as much as magic will likely have a good time here. It’s especially appealing for readers looking for fantasy that steps outside the usual medieval or European-inspired settings and builds its wonder from Caribbean soil, sea, and memory.

Kirt Seuchan Author Interview

The Adventures of Danny the Discus Volume 3 – Danny Goes to Tobago follows a discus fish as he becomes a sensation in a local pet store, leading him on an educational journey to learn about coral reef conservation. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

I was inspired by the natural beauty of our sister island Tobago to write a story that not only captured its wonderful people and sites but also the potential effects of not trying to preserve the environment for everyone to enjoy, especially the animals that inhabit there. I have visited Tobago from childhood to the current day regularly and have seen firsthand the effects that non-preservation of the coral reefs has had on the island, so it’s an important lesson to share with children to sensitize them on the effects.

The art in the book is fantastic. What was the collaboration process like with illustrator Jonny Hossain?

This is the third book I have done with Jonny Hossain and I must say that he knocks it out of the park each time we collaborate on a project. It was truly a pleasure working with him.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Some of the themes I tried to capture were environmental conservation, biodiversity and marine life, and empathy and compassion. By addressing these themes in an engaging and accessible way, children’s books on saving coral reefs can educate and inspire young readers to become environmental advocates and champions of marine conservation.

What is the next book in The Adventures of Danny the Discus series and when will it be available?

The next book in the series will be in 2025/2026 as I am working on another story with new characters which will be out in 2024.

Explore Courage and Bravery

Kirt Seuchan Author Interview

The Adventures of Danny the Discus follows a spirited discus fish named Danny, who seeks to understand his new world while navigating the challenges of acceptance and survival in a diverse aquatic community. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

My inspiration came from my childhood experiences of being bullied and learning to stand up for what I believe in. At a young age, I went from being bullied at school to growing taller than most children at a young age and protecting those children around me from being bullied themselves. In addition, I am a Discus Fish hobbyist, and I thought it would be great to put my knowledge of the hobby into a children’s book that would also teach kids about the discus fish but also incorporate my country’s culture and moral values.

The artwork in the book was charming. What was the collaboration process like with illustrator Wazim Mohammed?

Well, the collaboration with Johnny Hossain, who was the illustrator was fantastic; he was able to capture what I had in my mind in terms of the storyboards to tell this wonderful story. The communication was excellent with little rework, so it was a joy to work with him.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

The main themes in my book look at the spirit of adventure, explore courage and bravery, and have a moral lesson at the end, which I believe is important for children to learn.

What is the next book you are working on, and when will it be available?

My next book is The Adventures of Danny the Discus Volume 2 – Love of a Mother. It’s available now on Amazon and was published in October 2023. This book was meant as a tribute to all mothers and was inspired by my mother, who I lost in April 2023. Currently working on my third book in the series, which will be available in 2024.
