Safety and Love

George St. Georges Author Interview

AI: Opening follows a young man and his friends as they navigate their final semesters at Credence University, a fictional and somewhat surreal Christian college located on the mysterious island of Ai. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

This novel is based on the author’s non-fiction, unpublished work, which weaves five children’s stories together. Unfortunately, they weren’t The Little Engine That Could and The Cat in the Hat. They are histories of real children in towns we know, who experienced things unbelievable, with implications that can be paralyzing. Only a few could read it.

But their stories deserve hearing and need to be told. How? Truth in fiction. Everyone knows what a Good Samaritan is and what to do when a stranger needs help, even if they’ve never read the original story. That parable was fabrication, told by a master storyteller, but created from whole cloth.* Truth is where it is found, fiction or not.

Going to an imaginary island requires, well, using one’s imagination. It gives you, the reader, the distance necessary to choose to look at things that might have gone unnoticed in your city or village. And if the need to close the crack in Mt. Ai is pressing, shut the book for a short time. The island and its story are there, waiting patiently for your return.

You flawlessly blend Science Fiction, Psychological Drama, and Mystery in this book. It takes exceptional talent to do this. How did you go about blending them without disrupting the story?

The author read dozens of people’s life stories, and then miraculous strangers started walking into life and saying, “Oh, that’s so similar to my childhood. Let me begin–,” the author listening, all ears, with heart wide open. And other friends shared life experiences with him, some that were pretty intense, and others that were incredibly funny, and the only thing he did was to honestly, with the greatest integrity, fictionalize what they told. As for the psychological drama and mystery, that is what the author deals with on an hourly basis. Might as well be honest about those discoveries as well, right? And now you can read the author like a book. Ha!

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Children. Especially hurting children, and encouraging all those farther down the path of life to do something in their power to bring safety and love to them. It doesn’t have to be difficult. Don’t be surprised if these children are sometimes disguised, maybe walking around in a seventy-year-old body. But all need the exact same safety and love. You innately love. Develop that gift. Use it.

The Book.

A mystery that begs to be solved.

Wordplay. Gotta have fun!

Easter Eggs for the reader. They’re there. There, there. And everywhere.

Call to action. The author acknowledges that he cannot change the world. But he sure as shootin’ can change his world. He has chosen to think, to write, to share with the world, and this novel will create opportunity to teach and speak. This is his chosen path. However, his main focus in life right now is to encourage and help his amazing wife who teaches elementary school. There are about eight hundred students in her school. You know what that means. If not, read it! And then, change your world.

Is this the first book in the series? If so, when is the next book coming out, and what can your fans expect in the next story?

First things first. Thank you, fans! Each and every one of you are amazing in your own right, and together, a force for good to be reckoned with.

Yesterday, chapter seventeen of the sequel was brought into this world, so yes, another novel is being birthed. The research is done. All of the characters return, and I Will I am is introduced. Dean takes a much more prominent role. And what he discovers–, this author is still shaking his head in amazement at what he uncovered, and can’t wait to finish reading the book himself. The editing rounds will take a while, but expect it in stores the 5th of November, 2025. Remember, remember? The 5th of November?

*Got it? Whole cloth? Fabric-ation?

Sanctuary of the DarkLight

Sanctuary of the Darklight, the third installment in Eric B’s Night Crusaders series, picks up two years after a cataclysmic alien invasion of Draeghan, a province now led by a group known as Fight for Right. Under their rule, Draegahr City thrives, but a cloud of mistrust hangs over the province. The citizens grow increasingly suspicious as Fight for Right monopolizes the alien technology left behind after the invasion, refusing to share its secrets. Early in the book, we meet ROID, a mysterious figure, and the Night Crusaders, a team of half-alien superheroes who oppose the menacing Darklight. This dynamic immediately sets the stage for an engrossing and unpredictable narrative, as these characters clash in a world shaped by alien remnants and political intrigue.

The first chapter hooked me with a sharply written dialogue between Greg and Darius. I found Darius infuriating, likely by design, with his oversized ego and smarmy charm. He’s clearly meant to evoke strong reactions, and in my case, he succeeded. Meanwhile, Greg stood out as a far more complex character. When he dismissed psychology as “witchcraft,” I couldn’t help but laugh, though I also felt an immediate sense of pity for him, a feeling that deepened as the story unfolded. I especially loved the diary-style structure of the book, with references to specific dates and seasons grounding the narrative. It provides a rich historical context for Draeghan, offering readers the second half of the province’s tumultuous history.

Eric B exceeded my expectations with his well-crafted storytelling and world-building. That said, the erotic scenes’ abruptness disrupted the flow, leaving them feeling less polished compared to the rest of the narrative. Aside from that, the novel is packed with everything a fan of dystopian fantasy could want, dragons, demons, wizards, and a web of deception where different factions vie for control.

Sanctuary of the Darklight delivers an immersive, action-packed addition to the Night Crusaders series, blending elements of science fiction, fantasy, and dystopian intrigue with compelling characters and rich world-building. The novel excels in its ability to captivate readers with its unpredictable plot, complex moral conflicts, and a future that feels both fantastical and unsettlingly relatable. Eric B’s storytelling left me eager for more.

Asphalt Blues

Asphalt Blues, by Phillip W. Price, the fourth installment in the Daniel Byrd series, delivers a solid and well-paced thriller centered on an interstate effort to dismantle a methamphetamine smuggling operation. The story follows Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Daniel Byrd and his allies from Texas law enforcement as they navigate a dangerous mission filled with undercover work, assassination plots, bureaucratic hurdles, and the complexities of personal relationships. The novel weaves these elements into a tense and captivating narrative.

One of the most impressive aspects of Asphalt Blues is the way it balances the intricacies of a large-scale drug operation with the human side of the story. The depiction of the meth smuggling network is detailed and realistic, showing both the control exerted by powerful figures and the devastating effects it has on those caught in its wake. At the same time, Price reflects on the moral dilemmas faced by the characters, especially through Byrd’s relationship with Violet Childs and his difficult decision about Omar. These moments of introspection add depth to the story, giving readers more than just action but also a glimpse into the human cost of these criminal enterprises.

The clean, straightforward language used throughout the book stands in stark contrast to the grim and dirty world it portrays, making the brutality of the drug trade hit harder. Price doesn’t rely on excessive violence or graphic descriptions but still manages to convey the danger and urgency of Byrd’s mission.

The novel’s pacing is steady, and while it takes time to introduce the large cast of characters, the payoff is worth it. Once the action kicks in, the narrative flows smoothly, pulling the reader deeper into the plot. Though reading the earlier books in the series might provide additional context, Asphalt Blues holds its own as a standalone novel. Each character, even those with brief points of view, adds richness to the story, allowing readers to empathize with their struggles and motivations. This layering of perspectives creates a multi-dimensional world where no one is purely good or bad, making the novel more engaging and thought-provoking.

Asphalt Blues is a gripping and well-crafted thriller that will satisfy fans of crime fiction. Whether you’re familiar with the Daniel Byrd series or picking it up for the first time, this book delivers a thrilling ride filled with action, moral complexity, and a well-rounded cast of characters.

First Passage

First Passage, by Morgan Fitzgerald-Lorah, is a captivating Fantasy Sci-Fi novel that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. The story follows Nathan, a young magic user and inventor navigating life in the bleak future of the Dark Zone. His journey is fraught with peril, from betrayal in shadowy alleyways to brutal fights and deadly magic. At its heart, Nathan’s quest is one of self-discovery—seeking the truth about his origins and the reasons behind his unique abilities. Alongside him are his enigmatic mentor, Grant, and his steadfast friends, who do everything they can to keep him alive. With time running out, Nathan must uncover why he is being hunted before it’s too late.

As Nathan’s past begins to surface, readers are left wondering: will the guidance of his mentor, and the support of his loyal companions—Mark, his trusty sidekick, and Lily, the healer—be enough to save him? The action is relentless, with heart-pounding fight scenes that keep the pages turning. Fitzgerald-Lorah’s vivid descriptions paint a violent and unforgiving dystopian world, but she balances it perfectly with the emotional growth of her characters and the deep bonds they share. The quirky, dynamic cast surrounding Nathan adds both depth and humor, while his backstory of trauma and resilience makes him an inspiring protagonist to root for.

For fans of novels that are a thrilling blend of fantasy and science fiction, First Passage delivers an exhilarating adventure with a hero worth cheering for. It is worth noting that some key scenes felt somewhat rushed. I would have liked to have seen a little more detail and depth in these cases. The overall story remains compelling with an engaging plot and a memorable cast of characters.

First Passage is the kind of book that leaves you wishing it were longer, eager to dive deeper into the world Fitzgerald-Lorah has created. In the end, First Passage is an exciting introduction to what promises to be a fantastic saga, and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Changing Hands

Changing Hands is the tale of one opal ring that makes its way through several centuries in the hands of vastly different owners. Multi-layered characters exchange ownership while slices of history dominate their survival and subsequent fate.

The story begins in the mid-1700s when James Newcomb Sr., traveling across the English countryside, ignores warnings by the locals and purchases a silver jewelry box containing exotic jewelry, one of which is a magnificent opal ring. Upon his death, the book journeys to the home of an eccentric artist and the opal’s strange arrival. Love and deception lead the reader to the Arctic Ocean aboard an expedition following the transit of Venus.

Cast in the shadows of love, morality, and greed, the book follows a story thread from one character to another in a span of several centuries. However, the appeal of the novel is not the reader following one person and exiting to another, but rather the following of an idea: the idea that humans in all times and locations are powerfully enticed and seduced by something we can never possess.

No Stone Left Unturned (A Cameron Stone Action Thriller Book 3)

No Stone Left Unturned by Thomas Lebrun brings back Cameron Stone and his formidable team for another pulse-pounding, martial arts-packed adventure. This time, the stakes are higher than ever as Stone and his companions, scattered across North and Central America, search for a missing child at the center of this relentless, action-filled tale. Following the momentum of the first two installments, Stone and Raines continue their mission as protectors of the vulnerable, using their almost legendary combat skills to take down those who prey on the helpless. Alongside them, Sara—Stone’s love interest and an integral part of their past exploits—faces challenges that push her to her breaking point. Together, the trio must confront their pasts and trust in the powerful bond that has always united them if they hope to survive.

Lebrun excels at throwing his readers into dizzying, chaotic scenes where the action comes fast and hard. The frequent martial arts showdowns feel almost cinematic, with a level of bombast that, while not subtle, hits its mark for lovers of adrenaline-fueled narratives. While some readers may find the constant barrage of combat reminiscent of a Transformers film, there’s no doubt that those seeking globe-trotting, bone-crunching action will walk away fully satisfied. The plot, as wild and intense as the first two books, weaves together revolutionaries, political intrigue, and shadowy geopolitics. But unlike the earlier novels, Lebrun shows a more restrained side during the quieter moments, giving the characters room to breathe. For the first time, we see a deeper exploration of the backgrounds and motivations of Stone, Raines, and Sara, lending much-needed emotional depth to the story. This character development enhances the impact of the brutal fight scenes, adding a layer of gravitas that was sometimes missing in earlier books. What makes No Stone Left Unturned so enjoyable is its unapologetic embrace of what it sets out to be—a fast-paced, action-driven novel with characters readers have come to care about. It caters directly to its audience, delivering exactly what fans of the genre crave: thrilling combat, intense stakes, and a story that never lets up.

In the end, No Stone Left Unturned is a satisfying conclusion to the Cameron Stone trilogy. For those who love relentless action and hard-hitting fights, Lebrun’s latest work is sure to deliver everything you’re looking for and more.

The Brotherhood

The Brotherhood is a fast-paced thriller that follows Maggie as she navigates the treacherous waters of crime, betrayal, and survival. The book dives into a world filled with secret organizations, espionage, and deeply personal battles. Maggie is not only dealing with external enemies but also an abusive husband, Mateo, whose involvement in shady business dealings complicates her life further. The book is a gripping combination of high-stakes action and emotional turmoil as Maggie fights to uncover secrets while keeping her loved ones safe.

Now, I’ll be honest, the writing is intense and unrelenting. It felt like the action never let up, and Maggie’s constant fight for survival had me hooked. Shannon Condon doesn’t shy away from throwing Maggie into one life-threatening situation after another, which is both exciting and exhausting in equal measure. For example, the scene where Maggie and Shep must infiltrate a facility by rappelling down through glass (what a visual!) was one of those moments where I held my breath. But sometimes, I wanted more breathing room to sit with Maggie’s emotions, especially after heavy moments like when she contemplates leaving Mateo due to his escalating abuse.

That brings me to Maggie’s character. She’s incredibly tough, almost to the point where I wished there was more vulnerability shown. Sure, she has moments of reflection, especially when she’s dealing with the aftermath of violence from Mateo, but her emotional resilience is superhuman. In one scene, after surviving an intense fight, she’s immediately back to plotting her next move without much of a pause. Maggie’s a warrior but I would’ve loved to see a bit more of her softer side.

There’s just so much happening! Secret missions, betrayals, abusive relationships, and high-stakes takedowns all blend together, which makes it feel like you’re on a nonstop rollercoaster. I love action, but I found myself wishing for more moments where Maggie’s personal growth took center stage, especially when she confronts Mateo’s manipulative behavior. There’s a poignant scene where Maggie confronts Mateo about his abuse, but it felt like we moved on to the next explosive event quickly.

The Brotherhood is a solid read for anyone who enjoys adrenaline-pumping action and intense drama. If you’re into thrillers where the protagonist is thrown into one perilous situation after another then this book is definitely for you. Maggie’s journey is compelling and I’d recommend this to fans of crime thrillers who crave a wild ride.
