Paisley and Posie’s Adventures: The Splish Splash Surprise, by Maria Cedolini Thompson, is a joyful romp through a hot summer day with two irresistibly mischievous golden retrievers. This story is a perfect blend of playful chaos, heartfelt lessons, and charming illustrations that bring Paisley and Posie to life.
When left alone for just a short while, Paisley and Posie give in to temptation and take an impromptu dip in the backyard pool. What unfolds is a wonderfully soggy mess, full of splashes, tail wags, and comedic panic when they hear the front door swing open. The tension of their last-minute attempts to “hide the evidence” will have kids giggling and turning pages eagerly.
What makes this book more than just a tale of cute canine mischief is its thoughtful underlying message. Young readers are gently reminded that curiosity and mistakes are part of growing up, but love and forgiveness are always waiting on the other side. The story handles these themes with warmth and grace, making it a valuable addition to any child’s library.
Parents will appreciate the way the book encourages discussions about accountability, consequences, and teamwork without ever feeling heavy-handed. Meanwhile, children will be drawn in by the humorous antics and expressive artwork that capture every splash and shake.
Whether read aloud at bedtime or explored independently by early readers, Paisley and Posie’s Adventures: The Splish Splash Surprise is sure to make a splash in any home. It’s a charming tale that proves even the biggest messes can be cleaned up, with a little help and a lot of love.

Opportunities for Growth
Posted by Literary-Titan

Mistakes Are Gifts follows a young boy starting a new school who is anxious about the new and unfamiliar environment. What was the inspiration for your story?
As both a first-grade teacher and an author, I frequently encounter scenarios like the one depicted in the story. The inspiration for Mistakes Are Gifts stems from a specific student who embarked on his educational journey in our school after relocating from England. Witnessing his transformation firsthand, from a newcomer struggling to acclimate to his newfound surroundings to emerging as a top performer in my class, served as a poignant catalyst for this narrative. This heartwarming story underscores the profound impact of self-esteem on the learning process, a testament to the resilience and potential inherent within each child.
What educational aspects were important for you to include in this children’s book?
For me, embedding educational aspects in this children’s book was an opportunity to impart valuable lessons that extend beyond academics. I believe that fostering perseverance and instilling a sense of self-belief is pivotal for students as they navigate their educational journey. I specifically wanted to convey to young readers that setbacks and errors are not failures but rather opportunities for growth and improvement. By depicting Luca’s journey of overcoming obstacles and embracing his mistakes as valuable learning experiences, I aimed to instill in children the importance of resilience, adaptability, and a growth mindset. Ultimately, my goal was to create a book that not only entertains but also educates, empowering young readers with valuable lessons that resonate long after they’ve turned the final page.
While this is a children’s book, I feel the message is relevant to older children and adults. What was one scene in the novel that you felt captured the morals and message you were trying to deliver to readers?
Through Luca’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment, readers witness a profound transformation in how he navigates challenges, not just in the classroom but also in his interactions with family, friends, and even his father’s boss. This pivotal scene underscores the timeless lesson that resilience, self-belief, and the willingness to learn from mistakes are invaluable traits that transcend age and circumstance. It serves as a poignant reminder to readers of all ages that embracing mistakes as learning opportunities can lead to personal growth, enhanced confidence, and a more resilient mindset. Ultimately, this scene encapsulates the universal message of Mistakes are Gifts, making it a valuable lesson for both children and adults navigating life’s challenges and uncertainties.
What is the next book that you are working on, and when can your fans expect it to be out?
I’m thrilled to share that my upcoming projects will center around a delightful series featuring my mischievous golden retrievers. Each book will not only entertain readers but also impart valuable lessons on empathy and understanding, particularly when our furry friends find themselves in a bit of trouble. Through heartwarming tales and lovable characters, these stories aim to foster a deeper connection between families and their pets while promoting important values like compassion and forgiveness.
As for when fans can expect these charming tales to hit the shelves, I’m working diligently to bring them to life as soon as possible. While I don’t have an exact release date just yet, I’m excited to share more details as the publication process progresses. Stay tuned for updates and sneak peeks into the adventures of these mischievous yet endearing pups!

Mistakes are Gifts
Posted by Literary Titan

In Mistakes Are Gifts, author Maria Cedolini Thompson, complemented by illustrator Daria Shamolina, presents a heartwarming story centered on Luca’s first day at a new school. This children’s book navigates the challenges and apprehensions associated with new beginnings, skillfully capturing Luca’s initial anxiety about fitting into an unfamiliar environment. As Luca encounters his new teacher and classmates, he discovers an atmosphere of acceptance and learns an invaluable lesson: mistakes are an integral part of life.
Thompson’s narrative gracefully conveys the importance of embracing errors as opportunities for growth. Shamolina’s vibrant illustrations beautifully bring this message to life, adding depth and warmth to the story. Luca, as a character, is endearing and easily relatable for young readers. He symbolizes the anxieties faced by many children in new situations. The book’s core theme—that learning from mistakes is a joyful and essential part of personal development—resonates profoundly.
Mistakes Are Gifts addresses a common source of stress in children’s lives: the pressures of school and the fear of failure. By promoting a perspective that sees mistakes as positive learning experiences, the book offers a refreshing viewpoint that can significantly aid a child’s emotional and educational journey. From an educational standpoint, this book is a valuable tool. As a teacher, I can attest to its potential impact in elementary classrooms. It could serve as a foundation for lessons on personal growth and resilience, not only in the classroom but also in guidance counseling and library settings. Additionally, parents will find this book a helpful resource in teaching patience and empathy, reinforcing the book’s message in everyday family life.
Mistakes Are Gifts stands as a testament to the power of understanding and compassion in children’s literature, making it a meaningful addition to any young reader’s library.

Self-Belief, Perseverance, and Resilience
Posted by Literary_Titan

Anything is Popsicle, Messages of Perseverance shares with children that mistakes are part of life and the key is to keep going and learn from them. Why was this an important book for you to write?
As a first-grade teacher and author, I place great emphasis on instilling the value of perseverance as a fundamental skill that is cultivated and strengthened over time. I firmly believe that fostering a sense of self-confidence in students is pivotal for their overall success. Reflecting on my own upbringing, I was consistently reminded of the adage, “If you believe you can, you will; if you believe you can’t, you won’t.” This mantra resonates deeply with me, and I wholeheartedly endorse its sentiment.
The art in this book is fantastic. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Daria Shamolina?
Daria proves to be an exceptionally collaborative partner, exhibiting a wealth of innovative ideas. Our workflow typically involves me conveying my concepts to her via text, after which she promptly provides sketches that consistently exceed my expectations. Despite Daria’s residence outside of the United States, we seamlessly execute this creative exchange via email.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
To me, instilling in children the understanding that life isn’t always smooth sailing is paramount. Persistence is key, as success often requires multiple attempts. Additionally, I believe that mistakes are gifts; they allow people to learn and grow. Mistakes are stepping stones, rather than stumbling blocks.
Is this the first book in the series? If so, when is the next book coming out, and what can your fans expect in the next story?
I am deeply committed to advancing social-emotional learning. Thus, the overarching themes of my stories often center around the importance of self-belief, perseverance, and resilience. Released in February 2024, is my publication, titled ‘Mistakes are Gifts,’ which further explores these foundational concepts.

Anything is Popsicle: Messages of Perseverance
Posted by Literary Titan

Young children need encouragement through every stage of their development. From learning to crawl and walk to taking risks when it comes to making new friends, they need our support as they learn that mistakes are a part of learning. Trying their best and refusing to give up when things get too tough doesn’t always come naturally. Were it not for the encouragement and positive influence of others, children would learn that giving up feels like a better alternative than pushing through the struggle. Author Maria Cedolini Thompson offers children insight into some of life’s first true dilemmas.
Anything is Popsicle, Messages of Perseverance, written by Maria Cedolini Thompson and illustrated by Daria Shamolina, uses visually stunning images coupled with rhyming stanzas throughout to communicate a very important message to young readers. Thompson does a wonderful job of reaching out to children in lower elementary grades and encouraging them to persevere regardless of their trials.
From taking on the challenges found in the classroom to being faced with naysayers who question their choice of clothing, young readers will find comfort in Thompson’s verse. By reiterating that mistakes are, indeed, gifts, the author proves a point that many elementary students often do not see on their own–our mistakes are opportunities to learn and to grow. This book is a real asset to elementary teachers and guidance counselors.
Anything is Popsicle, Messages of Perseverance, written by Maria Cedolini Thompson and illustrated by Daria Shamolina, is a fantastic book children’s book that I highly recommend. Thompson and Shamolina have teamed up to create a beautifully constructed piece of art that carries an even more beautiful message for the youngest of readers.

My Students Absolutely Love This Tradition
Posted by Literary Titan

Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose follows a leprechaun that shows up in March to play pranks and create magic for children. What was the inspiration for your story?
Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose was written with the inspiration in mind of a long-held tradition in my classroom. It all started when I began making the first part of the month of March similar to The Elf on the Shelf where I put a little figurine of a leprechaun out and intermittently move it around the classroom. “Lucky”, surprisingly, gets himself into some crazy predicaments, moving about when the kids are out to lunch or recess. The anticipation they feel, filled with excitement to get back to the classroom to see what has happened while they were gone, is beyond joyous.
Then, on the morning of March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, the students arrive at school, finding the classroom a “mess” (chairs tilted and confetti on the floor), with personalized messages and treats on their desks from Lucky. They find green footprints around the class, a green toilet bowl, gold coins, and a “see you next year” letter. My students absolutely love this tradition and talk about it fondly for years to come, including many of my former students who are now parents.
What comes first for you, the plot or the characters, and why?
I would have to say the plot usually comes first for me. It is important to me that I have a good plot and the characters are secondary unless I do a series of books with common characters.
Have pets ever gotten in the way of your writing or inspired you?
I love pets! We have a golden retriever named Paisley who is a Covid puppy. Paisley definitely attempts to get my attention while writing and constantly wants to be loved and pet. She has inspired me to write a book about her because she is so playful and always gets into mischief! She is an expert sock finder, hider, and eater!!
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
My next two books are going to deal with social-emotional learning and the importance of trying hard and believing in yourself.

Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose
Posted by Literary_Titan

Lucky the Leprechaun comes to visit children from the first of March untill Saint Patrick’s day. In this short time, he stirs up as much mischief as he can, without being destructive, to make children laugh. He loves to bring a smile to the face of children by leaving notes, hiding toys, playing pranks, and even making a mess now and then. If you see a rainbow you know he is near, watching and waiting for the next time to appear.
Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose by author Maria Cedolini Thompson is a fantastic picture book that tells the story of Lucky in a style similar to the Elf on the Shelf story that children love. Lucky hides and causes mischief around the house and the school classroom. None of his antics are dangerous or damaging, but simple fun pranks that children will relate to and find entertaining.
What I loved about this magical children’s book is the writing style. Each page is written in the style of a poem, and they all flow together to tell the story. Many children’s books rhyme, but this feels like each page is a unique poem telling the mystical story of Lucky. The beautifully drawn illustrations by Daria Shamolina bring the words to life. Lucky’s personality jumps off the page and will make children want to run along on adventures with him. The colors and whimsical style are eye-catching and integrate seamlessly with the story.
Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose is a remarkable picture book about leprechauns and the fun they have leading up to St. Patrick’s day. The unforgettable poetry and remarkable illustrations will make this children’s book a favorite for years to come. Teachers and caregivers will find this to be a great read-aloud and introduction to the holiday of St. Patrick’s day for preschoolers and young elementary students.

The Message Of Positivity
Posted by Literary Titan

Our 20/20 Journey Back to School talks about returning to school in a post COVID world, what was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
The inspiration for this setup to my story was the thoughts in my head about returning to school a few days before our return in February of 2021. I was fortunate enough to have my first-grade class loop up to second grade with me and so I knew the questions that they had been asking and had built a strong relationship with both my students and their parents. As a parent myself, I knew the importance of letting my community know that we are all in this together and that anything is possible (even though a pandemic). The message of positivity was necessary for all of us to cope with these challenges. The idea that we would conquer them as a team, was most important to me!
The artwork was very creative and engaging for young readers. What was the collaboration process like between you and the illustrator?
The collaboration with Daria Shamolina was amazing. She lives in the Ukraine and I have yet to meet her face to face or even on Facetime/Zoom. I trusted that she would produce incredible illustrations and she was truly able to make the story come to life. I found Daria on a Facebook Author page and saw her previous work and emailed her. I think it was meant to be because she had now illustrated my second book as well.
Returning to normalcy in a post COVID environment is challenging for adults and kids; you touched on the perspective of teachers and children in a relatable way. What was your thought process in writing this content in order to appeal to both the children and the adults reading with them?
In collaborating with teachers at my school and in Covid Facebook groups, I really got a good sense of what “all” teachers were going through. I learned so many things from the many groups I followed and was so thankful for the many resources that I had access to during this time. I really tried to put myself in the shoes of my students and think about how they might be feeling through this unprecedented time. I couldn’t be prouder of my group of students who were warriors through the Pandemic and who supported each other and myself alike!
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
My second book was just released at the end of November on both Amazon and Ingram Spark, it is called, “Lucky the Leprechaun on the Loose”. It is about a legendary St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun. Each year during the month of March up until the family Irish holiday, Lucky comes to visit children at school and at home. But he isn’t just here for a visit! Lucky wants to create some March magic by hiding toys, leaving messages and surprises, and even making messes while the children aren’t looking. In the spirit of The Elf on the Shelf, Lucky brings much delight to the hearts of children during this wonderful holiday time.
