Learn to Read from Sounds by Florence Barnes is an enriching children’s book that aims to help young kids learn how to read using the phonics system. It also includes an insightful question and answer portion at the beginning to clarify frequently asked questions regarding the phonics system and its effectiveness. This book serves as a very useful tool for teachers or parents looking to teach a child how to read. This is due to the numerous exercises on reading using the phonic system in the book. The reading exercises are also fun and are suitable for children.
Although I found this book to be educational and informative, I thought that the book was a little plain. I thought an addition of brightly colored illustrations or animals would help capture children’s attention. Otherwise this book does an excellent job of relaying educational information in a straightforward and easy to understand manner. I think that this book will significantly help children, or really anyone, who is learning to read. If you’re looking for a book that stays focused on the material then Learn to Read from Sounds is a perfect choice.

The MOST common misconception kids have about their vision is they don’t believe they have a vision problem. This is because they have nothing to compare bad vision to.
I thought the scenes with Tode at the optometrist were very cute. Do you have a favorite scene from the book, Sight to See: Seeing is Believing ?
My favorite scene of Tode at the optometrist is when Dr. Kitty asks Tode to come into his office and Tode thinks he is in trouble and explains, “I didn’t pull Krissy’s tail, I just held on and she drug me in here!”

Chasing Scaredy Away: No More Fraidy in the Dark, by Dr Qooz is a fun book that does a fantastic job presenting the concept of fear management to young children.
The story starts out with the main character, Zora, going to buy some honey from a local honey seller. Readers follow Zora to the honey seller who tells an interesting story about how much bears love honey. Although the seller does not intend to instill fear in Zora with his story, some aspects of the tale frighten her. Zora carries those fears with her, and they grow.
The author does a great job bringing the reader through Zora’s process of fear, understanding, and later coming into a confident and fearless state thanks to greater understanding of why she had been afraid in the first place. Dr. Qooz finishes the story with a clear lesson in conquering fear using the tools at our disposal.
This book is a touching story that children would fall in love with. Parents will have fun reading this to their children while enjoying the lively and colorful images in the book.

In this fourth installment of the Honeycake series, Medea has imparted a valuable life lesson on building trust between parents and their children. In this book kids learn the importance of honesty and open communication which will ultimately pave way for them to develop healthy relationships in life. Parents will also learn that they must create a safe haven for children so they are not afraid or hesitant to approach them when in trouble or while facing a challenging situation.
It is also equally important that parents continually reinforce the significance of honesty in their children so that it becomes a natural way of life for them. This builds confidence in children and they will be more likely to take the right step. A Circle of Trust was a fun and educational read. I highly recommend it for all children.

Honeycake: Special Magical Powers
Honeycake: Special Magical Powers is a wonderful children’s book by Medea Kalantar. This book follows the journey of Nala and how she learns about the magical powers she and everyone else has. She learns a valuable lesson from her family about kindness and how much it can mean to another person. I absolutely love this book. It is adorable and teaches children such an imperative lesson. It also presents the idea of kindness in such an understandable way, even for young children. Nala learns about small things, like smiles, but then the story moves on to a much more serious topic. She is donating her old clothes and toys to a shelter for families; she learns about families who have lost everything. Her kindness of donating her old stuff that she has outgrown shows just how important it is because donating her old things cost her nothing, but it meant everything to those families to have clothing and toys. I love how this book can spark important conversations with children about how some people are less fortunate, and how sometimes you need help and it is okay to ask for it.
There are amazing and cute illustrations along with the book which is also good for children’s development. I think reading this book around Christmas time would be especially important to get children to understand why they may not get as much as another, but also maybe spark the idea of donating their items they have outgrown. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has children or works with children. Kalantar provides such a beautiful lesson and presents it charmingly.

Becoming My Best Self: My Shero Attributes
I have heard the saying that it takes a village to raise a child. That is true for all the parents and teachers, coaches, friends, families and anyone who have the pleasure and responsibilities of inspiring our children. This book came as an inspiration and reflection of the important attributes that helps to shape our children. It is about all of our SHEROES and HEROES. Studies have shown that the happiest, most successful children are those who can appreciate the differences and the opportunities and learnings that is experienced everyday. I have taught my two daughters that it is important to start from a place of gratitude. My hope is that this book will be a discussion for parents and teachers and anyone who wants to inspire important life attributes in a child’s life. There is an opportunity to choose one the attributes each month and celebrate it, discuss, reflect and have a conversation without any judgement to build understanding and awareness.

Honeycake: Help, I Swallowed a Butterfly is a precious account of one girl’s misunderstanding of the idiom, “butterflies in your stomach.” What was the inspiration for this charming children story?
I wanted to write a book to teach children how to overcome anxiety, and I thought about the common saying “I have butterflies in my tummy” when people described that they were nervous. I thought this anecdote would be the perfect play on words to help children understand.
This book teaches readers how to practice meditation and mindfulness. Why do you feel these are important for kids to understand?
As a Reiki Master and Practitioner I teach my clients how to manage stress and anxiety, through deep breathing and daily meditation. I felt it was important to teach these tools at a young age. By introducing them to the world of self care, it will empower children to practice mindfulness and meditation and setting positive intentions for the day, so that they are able to meet life’s challenges head-on in a healthy and balanced way. By starting them at a young age, they will grow up to be more balanced, healthy, happy adults.
Life can be stressful at any age, but with the right tools and mindset, we can overcome any obstacle!
The art in this book is very cute and fitting. What was the art collaboration like on this book?
I was involved in every step of the art creation in this book. The imagines are a replica of actual photos of my daughter Shanaz doing meditation. Nala is the only fictional character is my books. I used the same illustrator that did my first book. Honeycake: A Family Of Spices. The illustrators name is I Cenizal and she is so talented.
What is the next book in the Honeycake series that you are working on?
Book 3; Honeycake – Special Magical Powers
(release date Christmas 2019)
This book is to teach young readers all about the special magical powers each of us have by showing compassion to others my doing random acts of kindness.
I believe if we do this on a daily basics we can shift the universe into a positive direction.
It’s so simple to change one persons life and brightening up their day by; opening a door, giving your seat on the bus or train, donating unused toys and clothes… etc.
But the best way is to smile. A smile can change someone’s day from bad to good.
Kindness is gift we all can afford to give because it doesn’t cost a thing, but can mean everything to one person.
