Marked For Grace
Posted by Literary Titan

Grace Crawford carries the weight of her mother’s untimely death, which not only leaves her orphaned but also endows her with a remarkable ability—the power to perceive enigmatic marks on individuals. As she delves into the depths of her newfound abilities, Grace is thrust into a world teeming with Nephilim and Lesser Demons, where she embraces her role as a Shepherd, a guardian tasked with protecting souls and navigating the eternal conflict between the two worlds that have long been enemies.
Marked for Grace, by K.C. Harper, is a thrilling and thought-provoking novel that immerses readers in the captivating world of Nephilim and Lesser Demons. Through the eyes of the protagonist, Grace Crawford, the story explores the complexities of life and death, duty, and destiny. With its unique blend of action, romance, mythology, and religion, the story takes readers on an epic journey that resonates long after the final page is turned. Harper skillfully crafts Grace as a relatable and compelling protagonist, haunted by her past and driven by a profound sense of duty. Through her transformation from an ordinary nurse to a formidable Shepherd, Grace’s journey of self-discovery becomes an inspiring and captivating exploration of identity and purpose.
The novel also shines through its well-crafted characters, who bring depth and emotional resonance to the narrative. Alongside Grace, a host of supporting characters enhance the story’s richness, each with their own unique traits and motivations; the characters of Ben and Gideon were exceptionally well done. Harper expertly explores their relationships and challenges, inviting readers to form profound connections with the cast. The novel’s fast-paced and action-packed plot also keeps readers engaged from beginning to end as they navigate the twists and turns of Grace’s journey. The seamless integration of mythology, action, and romance creates a compelling tapestry that enhances the reading experience.
I also noticed that the novel draws parallels to Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series, particularly in its exploration of mythology and religious ideas within a contemporary context. However, Harper adds a fresh perspective and intricate world-building that distinguishes their work. Through its thought-provoking themes, the novel encourages readers to question traditional beliefs and delve into complex ideas, such as the goodness and darkness of people, making it a rewarding and intellectually stimulating read.
With its blend of mythology, action, and self-discovery, it offers an exhilarating reading experience. The well-drawn characters, immersive setting, and exploration of the eternal battle between angels and demons through Grace’s eyes make it a standout novel. Whether you’re a fan of fantasy fiction or intrigued by reimagined mythological concepts, Marked for Grace is an excellent addition to your reading list, leaving you eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Changing Tide
Posted by Literary Titan

In Changing Tide, Robert Joncas masterfully entwines an evocative narrative of a young girl, Skye, wrestling with her personal turmoil while being swept into a journey far beyond her understanding. Haunted by cryptic dreams and grappling with the tragic loss of her father and her mother’s spiraling depression, Skye’s world is painted with a brush of melancholy. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as she rekindles a connection with Paul, an alluring figure from her past, previously known for his childhood mischief.
A sudden accident involving Paul propels Skye to listen to her intuition and the enigmatic visions that haunt her dreams. In her relentless pursuit to assist him, she unknowingly releases an extraterrestrial being intent on safeguarding Earth. This alien entity, originating from distant cosmos, reveals itself to be more fascinating and complex than Skye could ever anticipate, marking the onset of an extraordinary saga of friendship, love, and, importantly, trust.
Robert Joncas showcases an exceptional ability to portray raw emotions and delicate sentiments. His narrative is an intricate tapestry of romance, familial bonds, suspense, and an unmistakably human touch enveloped in a mantle of science fiction. The characters are vividly constructed, each contributing a unique hue to the narrative palette. Nana, Skye’s vivacious and fearless grandmother, was a particular standout, embodying a captivating blend of loyalty and audacious spirit.
The narrative is particularly successful in illustrating Skye’s internal struggle – her battle against emotional turmoil and her hesitant forays into new friendships. The character development of the alien entity is equally commendable, with its adaptation and backstory revealed in a layered, compelling manner.
While I enjoyed the novel, I think it could benefit from a richer depiction of its setting. Joncas provides glimpses of the environment through a scattering of sensory descriptions, but I think a more thorough exploration could lend an enhanced depth to the narrative, striking a more refined balance between the characters’ internal states and their external world. As events coalesce, the unfolding adventure achieves a natural, engrossing rhythm.
Changing Tide is a warmly recommended read, particularly for young adults who yearn for a slice of relatable, yet enchantingly fantastic, reality. This novel embodies the essence of heartfelt storytelling interlaced with an adventurous spirit, ensuring a riveting reading experience.

Changing Tide
Posted by Literary Titan

Changing Tide, by Robert Joncas, is an enthralling fantasy novel that immerses readers in Skye Conner’s captivating journey, spanning from the picturesque coast of California to the majestic Grand Canyon. At the tender age of 18, Skye endures the heart-wrenching loss of her father, followed shortly by the tragic passing of her mother. With only her steadfast Nana by her side, Skye’s path intertwines with an enigmatic alien on a mission to protect Earth from a malevolent race of extraterrestrials.
One of the remarkable aspects of Robert Joncas’ storytelling is his choice to employ the first-person perspective, which allows readers to experience the unfolding wonders of this universe alongside Skye. We witness the world through her eyes, forging an intimate connection that cannot be replicated through any other narrative technique. Although this approach occasionally limits our understanding of the broader picture, as it is confined to Skye’s knowledge and emotions, it undeniably enhances the sense of immersion. While Skye mentions her fear of heights, there were instances where I yearned to fully experience the depths of her trepidation. For example, when she found herself perched on a cliff’s edge or scaling its steep face, I longed to share in her terror. Nevertheless, I commend Skye for her courage in confronting her fears head-on.
One aspect that left me longing for more was the absence of alternative perspectives. It felt as though a piece of the narrative puzzle was missing, as we were solely privy to Skye’s viewpoint. Additionally, the pacing took some time to reach its crescendo, and unfortunately, the resolution of the story was left unresolved. Once the narrative delved into the heart of the tale, I found myself thoroughly engaged, eagerly rooting for Skye and Paul’s triumph. It was disheartening not to witness their ultimate victory. While I appreciate the significance of establishing Skye’s ordinary world before thrusting her into the extraordinary, it did take a considerable portion of the book to reach the truly extraordinary elements. I yearned for a more substantial exploration of that captivating realm.
Changing Tide by Robert Joncas is an enchanting fantasy novel that sweeps readers into Skye Conner’s remarkable odyssey. Despite a few minor drawbacks, the story eventually grips readers tightly and leaves them yearning for more of its extraordinary allure.

The Fated Ones
Posted by Literary Titan

The Fated Ones, an intricately woven tapestry by Kennedi Morgan, masterfully traces the journey of our protagonist, Nessa, through her life as a latent. Ensconced in her direwolvin pack, Nessa’s survival hinges on her constant struggle to secure her rightful place among her peers, even striving to establish herself in her alpha father’s esteem. Embarking on a quest alongside her brother, their adventure descends into turmoil, eventually compelling Nessa to depart her pack. In this challenging time, Nessa’s brother, Aeron, and her steadfast confidant, Marcus, devise a strategy to sustain their unity. Though Nessa harbors reservations, the fear of losing the only two individuals who truly care for her nudges her toward acceptance. Their plan, however, sets the stage for war and unexpected romance, pushing Nessa to make consequential decisions.
Morgan’s storytelling prowess is evident in The Fated Ones. She effortlessly captures readers’ interest right from the outset with a dynamic altercation featuring Nessa. She then skillfully builds up to a climactic conclusion that’s a poignant blend of triumph and despair. Morgan’s narrative is emotionally rich and palpable, with Nessa’s deep-seated bond with her twin and her intriguing relationship with Marcus adding captivating layers to the plot.
The narrative flow is fluid, allowing the story’s multiple events to unfold seamlessly. It’s also complemented by a diverse array of characters who enhance the plot’s dynamism. Alea, the green witch, offers a vibrant supporting role, while Daelin, a fellow direwolvin of pack Fenrin, perfectly embodies the antagonist we love to despise. Eadwulf, the benevolent yet ferocious captain of Lord Primarch’s army, becomes a personal favorite with his balanced characteristics. Furthermore, Skye, the genderfluid dragon fae, brings an intriguing dimension to the storyline. With a complex backstory still under development, Skye leaves readers eagerly anticipating further revelations in the sequel.
Innovative elements such as the inclusion of a content warning and a reading playlist enhance the reading experience. The content warning shows sensitivity towards readers who might find certain scenes uncomfortable, while the reading playlist is a unique touch that provides an immersive backdrop to the narrative.
The Fated Ones is a riveting read that I wholeheartedly recommend. The cliffhanger ending leaves me excitedly awaiting the unfolding destiny of Nessa and the rest of the captivating ensemble in the forthcoming book.

The Ghost on the Beach
Posted by Literary Titan

The Ghost on the Beach: Who Killed Eleanor Marlowe? by Scarlett Dunn is a compelling mystery novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The gripping story follows Private Investigator Steele Harper as he moves to his new home on the beach in the midst of investigating a case of a missing girl who was abducted from a busy shopping mall a year prior. However, Steele’s plans are derailed when he discovers a mysterious woman walking the beach every night and becomes embroiled in a murder investigation involving a ghost.
Dunn’s character development is exceptional, particularly with Steele Harper, who is a multifaceted character with an obsessive nature that is typical of both ex-cops and private investigators. While this trait may be perceived as unfavorable, it adds depth to his character and makes him relatable to readers. Additionally, Dunn effectively uses the first-person perspective to give readers insight into Eleanor’s perspective and her status as a ghost, which enhances the overall mystery of the story. Steele’s investigation leads him to two seemingly unrelated cases that eventually prove to be intertwined. Hearts play a significant role in both cases, and Dunn cleverly weaves them together to keep readers guessing until the very end. While the story is complex, Dunn’s writing is clear and concise, making it easy for readers to follow the plot.
Overall, The Ghost on the Beach: Who Killed Eleanor Marlowe? is an outstanding paranormal mystery novel. Scarlett Dunn’s superb character development, well-crafted plot, and skillful intertwining of two mysteries while maintaining a sense of humor and a romantic subplot make for a riveting and engaging read that will leave readers satisfied.
