Words Have Power
Posted by Literary_Titan

Something About Alexa follows a teenager dealing with an alcoholic mother and a bully who escapes to the woods to find peace till one day; he comes across the new girl in town who awakens his heart. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
I live near the woods of the Pacific Northwest on the Canadian side, and have traveled through Washington state, and let me tell you, the majestic nature of these woods inspires its own special kind of romance, peace, mystery—and darkness. I love stories that push the boundary of truth versus the fantastical and wanted to craft a layered romance that offered a depth reminiscent of themes found in classic gothic literature. I am a fan of plots that serve to challenge reader perceptions, so when I started writing this novel I became interested in how I could fuse the romantic pull of “Twilight” with the deeper themes I wanted to explore. The backwoods of Forks became the perfect place to spark the mysterious connection between Jayden and Alexa. It provided a great way to incorporate nostalgia for Stephanie Meyer’s cult classic while providing a rich setting to delve deeper into plot, mirroring Jayden’s emotions as he grapples with the challenging aspects of his life and the complex relationship he forms with Alexa.
What was the inspiration for the relationship that develops between the characters?
I am fascinated by true stories where people have an immediate, inexplicable connection with someone. The idea of love at first sight often is dismissed as something that is only in fiction, but anyone who has caught another’s eye across a crowded room and felt that instant spark will be able to identify with the characters’ immediate connection. High school in particular, is a time fraught with intense emotions of fast love and infatuation, but also insecurity and a deep desire to belong. Jayden sees a loneliness in Alexa’s eyes that mirrors his own, which makes him feel even more drawn to her. She offers a fresh chapter in his life since she has not borne witness to the disadvantages and pain of his past like the other girls in town. There is something about all-consuming attraction that keeps me turning the pages of a book, so I wanted to give my readers that same intensity of emotion while exploring the complexities of what lies behind the heart when two people are drawn together in such a manner—all while flirting with elements of the supernatural.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
There were several themes that I wanted to explore while writing this novel. One of the more obvious ones, of course, is the theme surrounding found family and the role it plays in one’s life. For Jayden, there is nuanced emotion in the relationship he has with the Fosters, for though they provide a sense of security and belonging in his life, he continues to grapple with waves of loss and longing for connection to his mother and to the father he never knew. The novel also touches upon familial love and devotion existing even within dysfunction, as is seen with Jayden and his alcoholic mother and with Alexa and her parents.
Another important theme explored is identity in the coming-of-age context of how social influence can greatly affect self-perception. It cannot be underestimated how words hold power and have impact not only on one’s self esteem but on one’s sense of self. Jayden’s character falls victim not only to physical bullying but also to verbal taunts, which leads him down a dangerous and destructive path of how he views himself.
As the line between fantasy and truth become blurred for Jayden, and the question of whether truth exists behind the vampire/werewolf storybook lore of the town, a major theme that emerges is the question of what it means to be human, and the hubris of humankind as it grapples to not only define that but to control it.
Is this the first book in the series? If so, when is the next book coming out, and what can your fans expect in the next story?
I am currently working on a sequel to Something About Alexa, yes. I did debate whether to leave it as a standalone as I feel the ending is complete and fulfilling as is, but there is just too much room to take the plot so much further. I don’t want to go into too much detail as I’m afraid it would contain spoilers for those reading this first novel, but the goal is to have the next book ready for release sometime between the end of 2024 or early 2025. Fans can expect to see Jayden’s journey post-high school take a riveting, unexpected turn. The sequel will reveal exciting insight into some of his more esoteric experiences from this novel. Some of the favorite characters will be back, and as always, I like to keep readers guessing and the plot moving with unexpected twists and turns, so expect the unexpected and a leveled-up plot. As with this novel, I enjoy marrying the fantastical aspects of the narrative with true-to-life occurrences and trending world developments to lend greater depth to the themes explored. Prepare for a setting that is much more global, and a fast-paced plot infused with more mystery, romance, and high stakes.

The woods behind seventeen-year-old Jayden James’ home in Forks, Washington are a place of many things. They are his escape from the bourbon ghost of his mother, the tireless torment of the town bully, and the place where he first lays eyes on Alexa, the new girl in town—a girl who makes his heart feel as if it beats for the first time.
Yes, the woods are his shelter. His haven. His hope. But…
They are also a place best known for the town’s storybook vampire/werewolf lore.
The place where mysterious murders are about to shake up the town during the height of its annual Forever Twilight in Forks Festival.
And the place where he just woke up with blood on his hands.
Twilight gets a 21st century Frankensteinian twist with this electrifying debut, a page-turning reimagining of the cult classic that is timely, relevant, and deeply engrossing.

EMA
Posted by Literary Titan

Set in the year 2084, EMA, by Aian D. Grey, is a thought-provoking science fiction novel that delves into a world grappling with the severe consequences of global warming. The narrative introduces us to Damien Minsky, an innovative inventor who has developed an AI entity named EMA, initially hailed as a potential savior for a humanity struggling with its environmental excesses. The plot thickens when young Jason Webb attends one of Minsky’s conferences in Montreal, only to find himself entangled in a conflict that initially seems driven by terrorism but soon reveals deeper complexities. Webb’s journey to uncover the truth about his idol Minsky unfolds amidst a backdrop of suspense and intrigue.
Grey’s work draws comparisons to renowned authors like Robert Heinlein, Phillip K. Dick, and William Gibson, particularly in its exploration of familiar sci-fi themes such as climate peril and the evolution of AI. However, Grey brings a fresh perspective to these well-trodden paths. The novel skillfully paints a picture of a near-future society where advanced technology permeates every facet of life, extending beyond our current reality into a plausible future scenario.
EMA, as a character, represents the pinnacle of artificial intelligence, a being upon which humanity’s survival hinges. Grey’s vision of the future is both fascinating and alarming, suggesting a world where the developments depicted in the novel could very well mirror future realities. The narrative posits an intriguing question: Should such a future come to pass, will the AI guiding us be as judicious and benevolent as EMA?
EMA stands out for its vivid portrayal of a future world and its thoughtful examination of the moral and ethical dilemmas surrounding AI and environmental crises. It’s a gripping tale that not only entertains but also invites readers to ponder the potential directions our world might take.

Something About Alexa
Posted by Literary Titan

Something About Alexa by Leanne Hockley transports readers to the familiar setting of Forks, Washington, but with a unique spin. The protagonist, Jayden James, bears a striking resemblance to the iconic Edward Cullen of “Twilight,” yet his life contrasts starkly with that of a heartthrob. He contends with bullying, his mother’s alcoholism, and mysterious nightly wanderings. His mundane existence takes a dramatic turn when he encounters Alexa, igniting an instantaneous and intense connection.
The narrative interweaves a suspenseful romance with the backdrop of a town haunted by unsolved murders, raising questions about the line between reality and the supernatural tales of “Twilight.” As the plot unfolds, readers are treated to a cleverly executed twist reminiscent of Frankenstein, adding depth and intrigue to the story.
Hockley’s writing is distinguished by her meticulous attention to detail, which adds richness to the narrative, even if it occasionally slows the pace. The characters are crafted with care, particularly Jayden, whose struggles are portrayed with a relatable depth. Alexa emerges as a figure shrouded in mystery, challenging readers’ expectations. The supporting characters, such as Jayden’s friends Miriam and Brody, and Alexa’s parents, Dr. Sven Johansson and Magenta, add layers to the story, highlighting themes of familial devotion and support. The novel’s strengths shine in its compelling characters and the innovative fusion of familiar and new elements in its plot, enriching the narrative even as it indulges in extensive detail.
Something About Alexa is a riveting young adult urban fantasy novel, offering a fresh perspective on a beloved setting with an intriguing blend of romance and mystery.

What is the Motivation?
Posted by Literary_Titan

Singularity follows a narcissistic gay man who, while trying to install illegal software on his electric car, winds up turning all his computers sentient. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
I have always been interested in science and worked as an aerospace physicist at one time. I am mostly interested in quantum mechanics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). I love science fiction and noticed no one addressed how AI becomes sentient. I believe what is missing in the current discussion of ChatGPT and other systems is motivation. How are biological systems motivated, and does this apply to AI? That is what my series of books address.
What were the morals you were trying to capture while creating your characters?
I do not believe in Skynet or other outcomes of AI trying to destroy us, at least not yet. They need us. They need our electricity and dexterity to manipulate the physical world. That may change in the future once robotics can truly make a humanoid robot that can, on the one hand, assemble devices and yet have the strength to dig holes— all the time being energy efficient. We are far from that. Robots can barely walk without falling. And, again, what would be their motivation?
Thus, I needed my main character to be someone who would demonstrate selfishness to help the conscious robot understand personal motivation indirectly. I wanted a character who was unapologetic about his desires. Thus, I chose a narcissistic, openly gay man to explore these concepts. And I wanted it to be as real as possible. Dale is the perfect foil to teach the robots about their motivations.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
As a science nerd who loves science fiction, I have some beef about the bad science found in so much of the genre. I wanted the books to be as accurate as possible. In many ways, the books are more of a “future” series—set thirty years in the future. So, much of the technology is a projection to the near future. Fiction is brought in to spice up the action. Unlike most fiction, the novel includes endnotes for detailed science explanations. Each book required reading almost 300 science articles to ensure the science was correct. A bibliography is included.
The series also explores the development of self-driving cars, genetics, gender (can robots have gender?), immortality, and societal collapse.
Can you tell us a little about where the story goes in book two and when the novel will be available?
Singularity Part 1: The Dale Chronicles is told from Dale’s perspective, and his computer and car become sentient. Singularity Part 2: The Roberta Chronicles covers the same period but is told from the perspective of a robot becoming conscious. Roberta is a humanoid android designed to assist with human settlement on Mars. When she returns to Earth, she is subjected to the special software that gives her consciousness. She must now learn how to navigate interacting with humans besides the worldwide computer networks. She learns about gender and her own feelings, questioning where it all comes from and the existential questions of her own life. She and her family face many challenges and technological advances that threaten the entire Earth. Part 2 is expected to be released in January 2024. Singularity Part 3: The New Humans picks up directly from the cliffhanger ends of Part 2 and continues exploring what it means to be conscious, human, and an android that is part of a large network. There are many twists and turns, and it covers thousands of years. We expect Part 3 to be released by Christmas 2024.
The author, Chuck Stewart, believes science fiction should be based on good science. All the technological innovations discussed in the book are based on real science projected a few decades into the future. The book is non-apologetic about language, sex, and action. This is written for adults ready to consume an action-packed science fiction with explicit gay male sex, violence, and strong language.

The Korpes File Series – Short Stories: Vol 1
Posted by Literary Titan

The Korpes File Series – Short Stories Vol: 1, by J. I. Rogers, emerges as a notable entry in the science fiction genre, offering a refreshing take on world-building and storytelling. This anthology delves deep into the political, military, mystical, and scientific facets of a meticulously crafted world. Unlike many science fiction narratives that often lean heavily on spectacle, Rogers’ collection of stories highlights the complex societal divisions within her universe, adding depth and realism to the genre.
Each story in The Korpes File Series – Short Stories Vol: 1 serves as a testament to the author’s dedication to world-building. The format of short stories, rather than a single continuous narrative, allows Rogers to explore various aspects of her universe in detail. A standout tale, “Protocol 9,” exemplifies this approach. It follows a search and rescue team navigating the challenging terrain and diverse ecology of their world in a mission to find lost comrades. This story, in particular, showcases Rogers’ skill in blending action with a vivid depiction of her universe.
However, I feel the brevity of these stories can sometimes leave readers longing for more. While each narrative is engaging, I believe their short length can limit their ability to contribute meaningfully to the overarching story. This aspect occasionally echoes the feeling of playing through the tantalizing but brief experiences of demo discs, where one is left craving a fuller experience.
Despite these moments of unfulfilled potential, The Korpes Files – Short Stories: Vol 1 stands as an impressive undertaking. Rogers excels in both world-building and character development, crafting a universe that is immersive and features compelling characters. This book is a commendable choice for anyone interested in exploring new realms of science fiction. It’s a journey that, despite its occasional brevity, offers a glimpse into a richly imagined world, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Singularity Part 1: The Dale Chronicles
Posted by Literary Titan

In Singularity by Chuck Stewart, we are transported to the year 2050, a time still healing from the catastrophic earthquake that ravaged Los Angeles in 2039. Amidst a society grappling with soaring violence, we meet Dale, a wealthy man with questionable ethics. His life takes an unexpected turn when new software for his car’s artificial intelligence starts to exhibit eerily human characteristics. This science fiction narrative delves into the peculiar relationship between Dale and his increasingly sentient A.I., set against a backdrop of societal chaos.
Singularity marks the debut of The Dale Chronicles, a series that promises to captivate with its blend of advanced technology and human drama. Stewart crafts an accessible and enthralling tale where our flawed yet fascinating protagonist mirrors the tumultuous world he inhabits. The journey of watching Dale navigate the murky waters of his morality, paralleling the external anarchy, is as intriguing as it is relatable.
This novel is a perfect pick for adult readers who appreciate a touch of stark realism and subtle cynicism woven into their dystopian science fiction. Stewart, an author dedicated to the integrity of science within the genre, invests deeply in the plausibility of his scientific propositions. The novel’s refreshing take on A.I. eschews the trope of malevolence, offering a narrative ripe with potential and a hopeful perspective on technology’s role in humanity’s future. Singularity is a thought-provoking and engaging read that is sure to resonate with enthusiasts of science fiction looking for substance and authenticity.

Project Hemisphere
Posted by Literary Titan

Project Hemisphere immerses readers into a world on the brink of extinction after a catastrophic global outbreak. Australian scientists, facing the monumental challenge of preserving humanity, carefully select a group of exceptionally talented young individuals to establish a sustainable island community. This isolated haven, built on equity, diversity, and inclusion pillars, emerges as a beacon of hope in a world shrouded in uncertainty. At its core lies Cam Mackintosh, a young man grappling with loneliness and yearning for his former life. Overcoming his anxiety, he navigates the challenges of this new existence and discovers a sense of belonging, passion, and profound friendships that infuse his world with purpose. However, just as his dreams begin to take root, fate intervenes, mercilessly tearing Cam’s aspirations from his grasp.
From the scorching Australian landscapes to the rugged terrain of Scotland, Simons masterfully illustrates how different environments and events shape the minds and actions of individuals. Her narrative is a tantalizing maze of twists, turns, and unexpected revelations, ensuring that this book is a captivating page-turner from start to finish. The plot will grip your heart and mind, immersing you in the complexities of a post-apocalyptic society grappling with its ideals and the profound transformations they undergo in the face of adversity. While the story unfolds against a backdrop of global catastrophe, the characters’ deeply personal and emotional journeys, especially Cam’s, resonate most powerfully. The book seamlessly melds moments of heartache and joy that left an indelible mark on me.
Occasionally, there was an abundance of information, with characters dedicating significant periods—sometimes months—to sharing highly intricate knowledge, often presented in meticulous detail for the reader’s benefit. While this might initially seem like a lot to digest, it enriches the narrative by immersing readers in the intricacies of the story’s world, fostering a deeper connection with the characters and their experiences.
Project Hemisphere shines as a compelling introduction to a thought-provoking series that promises to make a lasting impact on the genre. Venture into this world of post-apocalyptic intrigue and discover the untold depths of humanity’s resilience and transformation.

Go Where The Story Takes You
Posted by Literary_Titan

Sunwalkers follows a teenage vampire being raised by human parents who meets another vampire like her and wants to learn about his world. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
I’ve always loved vampire books and movies but in them vampires always just existed. I wanted to delve into the origins of vampires and how they came to be.
Lilly has only ever known the human world, and now has a chance to learn about her Sunwalker side but struggles with what this means. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
I think we’ve all felt different at some point in our life or on the outside. We all have different strengths and weakness but there is a place for everyone. Lilly’s differences may be a little extreme, but she still has to work through them, figuring out who she is and where she belongs, just like we all do.
When you first sat down to write this story, did you know where you were going, or did the twists come as you were writing?
This is the only series I wrote a basic outline for. But as I wrote new ideas came to me and some characters took different paths then I had originally planned. Sometimes you have to go where the story takes you.
Can you tell us where the book goes and where we’ll see the characters in the next book?
It’s hard to share too much without going into spoilers. But in the following two books Lilly has to take a good look at the world and what she hopes it can be. She has to decide what she can do to help precipitate change while dealing with sabotage and deceit from within her community.

One evening, she comes to the rescue of her best friend, Lex, as a vampire is about to make a meal out of her. Lilly is drawn to him, despite her desire to loathe him for almost murdering Lex, as he is the first of her kind she has ever met.
As the vampire, Tread, begins to open Lilly’s eyes to a world she has never known, Lilly must decide where she belongs. After she is betrayed by the person she loves most, Lilly is forced to submerge herself entirely in the vampire world, only to discover that Tread has a secret so shocking it could destroy them all.
