Colorful Cast of Characters
Posted by Literary-Titan

Life at the Precipice is the story of an Air Force officer suffering from PTSD and his journey to the mysterious community known as The Segway, the tales of its inhabitants, and his desire to make sense of it all. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
I am a professor of Physics and Space Science at the Royal Military College of Canada, but in a previous career I flew as an Air Navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force. I logged a few thousand hours on the CP-140 Aurora long-range maritime patrol aircraft. Without giving too much away, the source of the main character’s PTSD involves an incident onboard the Aurora. The premise came to me while flying on the aircraft . . . “What if this happened during a mission?” In the book it does happen. I leave that for the reader to discover. During my Aurora days I was based in Comox, British Columbia and loved my time there. I placed The Segway amidst the rugged beauty of central Vancouver Island because of my fond memories of the area.
When you first sat down to write this story, did you know where you were going, or did the twists come as you were writing?
The story takes place in 2003, the same year I first conceived the novel. I wrote a detailed outline and sent it to a large publisher. . . you could do that without an agent in 2003. An editor thought the concept was fascinating and asked to see the entire novel! I was working on my PhD at the time, so my six-month prediction for completing the book was not realistic. When I finished the novel a few years later, the editor was no longer at the publishing house. The book sat on the shelf for quite a few years as I pursued my academic career, but eventually I blew the proverbial dust off the manuscript and decided to rediscover The Segway. It took a few re-writes to get the right blend of science, intrigue, character development and humor . . . but it essentially followed the original outline. Whenever I sat down to write, the town took on a life of its own, and I felt I was there with its inhabitants, who have been described by reviewers as “delightfully eccentric” and “entertaining.” They have certainly been good company for me over the years.
Are you a fan of the science fiction genre? What other genres or books do you think most influence your work?
I like any well-written book regardless of genre. Life at the Precipice straddles several genres. It has been called a mystery, fantasy, thriller, science fiction, memoir and literary with a sprinkling of popular science and humor. My Literary Titan review claims that the novel “refuses to adhere to the rules of any single genre.” When I decided to write Life at the Precipice, I wanted to create something different, original, novel . . . that was always my main goal.
I find a problem in well-written stories, in that I always want there to be another book to keep the story going. Is there a second book planned?
With a colorful cast of characters living in such a mysterious town, there is plenty of material for a follow-up book. However, my next published novel will be The Girl on the Bridge. Whimsical, witty, and wildly imaginative, it is a love story for the ages. This book really makes me smile.

Lisa Shay’s latest novel, Lights, Camera, Murder, takes readers on an exhilarating journey alongside movie star Andrea and her crew as they embark on a search for the perfect lodge location for their upcoming film. What sets this story apart is the inclusion of Dr. Kallie Collins, the local psychic veterinarian and part-time detective, whose presence adds a unique and compelling dimension to the narrative. As Kallie tends to the injured animals and unravels the mystery behind a dangerous individual’s explosive acts and disturbing messages, the suspense escalates, and she finds herself racing against time to identify the culprit and safeguard her own well-being.
Lights, Camera, Murder is an enthralling and captivating mystery that expertly blends the natural world with the suspense of a crime novel. The premise of a veterinarian with the extraordinary ability to communicate with animals infuses the story with a distinct and intriguing element. The narrative unfolds at a steady pace, gradually building tension as Kallie delves deeper into the enigma surrounding the injured horse. With bated breath, I eagerly sought to uncover the truth, only to be pleasantly surprised by a plot twist that left me astounded.

The mountain lodge, in particular, serves as an atmospheric backdrop that enhances the overall sense of intrigue and allure. Hope and Belief

I’ve Been Waiting follows a narcotics detective who, at the request of a beautiful woman, investigates an unsolved mystery and encounters paranormal activities. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
Well, this is a good question. I guess I was going through some difficult times personally. With the loss of family members, Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles, and Parents passing away, I guess you begin to question our very existence. You begin to wonder, is there something out there beyond this life, or is this it? So, with each passing of a loved one, a deep sadness begins to fill your heart. I feel that this was the place I was in at the time, and then I started having this reoccurring dream. It was the same dream, over and over, becoming more vivid each time. So, I started telling people about the dream.
The dream was about this guy walking down the street in an older part of Boston. The street was dark with high buildings on each side. It was a dark night with a slight fog that had rolled in. I had a feeling that the guy was aimlessly walking down the street, heading toward his favorite bar. As he got closer to the bar, he noticed this very attractive woman standing on the street corner under the lights. For whatever the reason, he was drawn toward the girl, and as he approached, he asked her if she was lost or needed help. She looked back at the guy and said, No…I’m waiting for you.
So, that was the dream. What exactly it meant, I didn’t know, but I finally decided to write it down. Writing it down made me realize that this guy, who became John O’Roark in the book, was lost. He had lost everything, his family, his self-worth, his career, and everything he ever believed in. However, I knew that this woman, who mysteriously came into his life at just the right time, would help him find his way back.
John is an interesting and unique character. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
Once I wrote down the dream, I had to go back and determine just what happened to this individual. So, I asked myself what tragedy could occur in a person’s life to make him feel the way he feels and put him in this situation of feeling totally lost. The most important thing in this world is your family, and if anything were to happen to them, you would be devastated. In knowing that, then you ask yourself, how would you respond and what would you do if something happened to your family like what happened to John’s family in the book? So, this is the direction I went within the book.
What was strange was when I started creating the different characters in the story. For instance, Dex, the stutterer came out of thin air, but he’s a big part of the story. Once I had the characters in place, the story just took off. It was as if I was just along for the ride, typing away as I saw the scenes play out.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
I would say that the overall theme of this book is about hope. It’s about an individual who is in complete despair, lost, and alone in his grief with no sense of purpose due to his circumstances. Yet, on an unexpected meeting with a mysterious woman, his life begins to turn around as he embarks on an incredible journey that allows him to overcome his hardships and find a new purpose in life. It’s about the hope and the belief that he will be together again with his family someday and that, for now, he has much more to do in this world as he realizes that his new purpose is to help others.
What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?
I have several books in mind and have written the outlines for each. Obviously, this book has an ending that leads to another journey for John’s character. So, I’m in the process of outlining his next adventure.
Two other books that I am working on are: “Frantic Panic” and “The Family Secret”
These books have no release date and are in the early stages of development.

Until he meets a young and mysterious woman named Angelica, who begins telling him a compelling story about her friend who has been missing for years. Reluctant to take on a missing person’s case, he simply can’t resist being pulled into her captivating plea for help. Sultry
Posted by Literary Titan

Papa Grand was involved in a scandalous affair with the beautiful woman “Sultry Glade.” It wasn’t the best-kept secret, most knew. What people didn’t know then, however, was how gravely it would come back to bite him. On August 7th, early morning, Gideon “Giddy” Fitzgerald was found murdered inside his vehicle. Unfortunately, their murderer was never caught. Years later, his granddaughter Dillyn Fitzgerald, a chief financial investment officer with a passion for investigating, would dive deep into the tangled web of mysteries and lies to finally catch his killer. With the help of her family and visions of “Sultry,” she begins to unravel the hidden secrets that were buried. But will she be able to solve his murder, or will it come back to haunt her forever?
Sultry, by Dr. Sandra Tanner, is a murder mystery tale filled with plot twists and delectable secrets that will have your mind racing. You are left at the edge of your seat from the turn of the first page to the end of the book because you desperately need to know the answers to your questions.
The reader follows Dillyn Fitzgerald as she sets out to investigate her grandfather’s scandal and find the killer. Dillyn’s character is one that I grew fond of because she is headstrong, loyal, and relatable, and I enjoyed following her along with her investigation. Dr. Tanner’s character development is one to applaud, and it’s hard not to like all the characters. The addition of paranormal activities sprinkled throughout the story was also a pleasant surprise, adding drama to the plot. The plot twist at the end was shocking but a nice surprise despite the ending feels rushed.
Sultry by Dr. Sandra Tanner is an intriguing murder mystery with interesting characters and many plot twists. This compelling book is a fast and exciting read, and I found myself unable to put it down.
