Confidence Transformation

Alexandra Elinsky PhD Author Interview

Girl Game: Balls Out is a blend of memoir, psychology, and empowerment, and is a call for women to reclaim their power, stop people-pleasing, and rise unapologetically into their full selves. Why was this an important book for you to write?

In love, I was always had an anxious attachment style, and I genuinely felt like something was medically wrong with me. My insecurities always got the best of me, and I grew up without any confidence or self-esteem. Rejection was my middle name. I was unlucky in love. I had to get to the bottom of this, so I spent 5 years intensively studying attachment theory and childhood emotional neglect, and boy, did my findings revolutionize my life as I know it. That research and my own confidence transformation were the catalyst and backbone of this work.

In Chapter Six, “The Fight of Your Life,” you write about internal battles. How do you personally recognize when you’re in one?

By how I am feeling. All internal states are attached to a feeling, and all feelings are trying to tell us something vital about ourselves.

What do you hope women take away from your message when they’re standing at their own
breaking point?

That they heal “balls out” style. Many people sit in a therapist’s office for years and take medication for decades hoping to numb the pain, but they never really heal HEAD ON. I encourage radical healing through awareness and consciousness, and that requires a full-blown, balls-out exploration of the shadow, or what I call an emotional exorcism, in this book.

You mix faith, psychology, and empowerment in a unique way. How do those three forces coexist in your own healing process?

I am a spiritual person. I do blend faith, spirituality, psychology, and empowerment because of my background in all 3. I refuse to take pills. I don’t go to therapy (but I am a huge fan of it) – I champion healing by facing problems head-on and feeling them fully until healed.

BALLS OUT is the most powerful and emotionally charged book in the GIRL GRIT series as Dr. Elinsky speaks directly to the little girl lost inside so many of us. Giving a voice to the child inside all of us, GIRL GAME: BALLS OUT carefully addresses the notion that resonates with so many, “children should be seen and not heard…”

With over 100 years of research behind it in human psychology, emotion, healing, attachment and relationships, self-worth and identity, this book provides profound insights concerning the realities that shape our existence when we struggle with low self-esteem. Since our subconscious accepts all suggestions as facts, we are met with demons we didn’t create who plague us as mirrors impacting our closest relationships while making rejection become the norm. This happens because of generational trauma passed down from ancestors and the general negativity felt and experienced in the external world. By embracing self-worth from within, the book emphasizes the transformative power it holds in reshaping personal connections and attracting genuine affection. The text prompts introspection on questions of rejection, societal constraints, and the impact of insecurity on personal growth and fulfillment. Encouraging a shift from seeking external validation to embracing inner worth, GIRL GAME: BALLS OUT advocates for empowerment and taking control of one’s narrative. By fostering self-belief and authenticity, individuals can transcend self-doubt, radiate confidence, and magnetize positive interactions.
You can either overcome or come undone… the POWER is yours.
Are you hiding behind that pretty face…

An Ever-Opening Poem

Verde Mar Author Interview

In A Wave Without a Shore, you explore both science and soul through the introspective poetry in this second installment of the Entangled Universes Trilogy. What was the biggest challenge you faced in putting together this poetry collection?

Honestly, my writing flows unlike anything I have ever experienced. Since August 2019, I have written 2500 poems, so the challenge is mapping ~200 of them to the eleven chapters in a way that helps elevate the poetry to a “shore our galaxy will only pass by” in our future.

How do you approach writing about deeply personal or emotional topics?

With ease. I am an INFJ personality type with introverted intuition and deep empathy. These topics are like an ocean that I never leave.

How has writing this poetry trilogy changed you as a writer, or what are you learning about yourself through writing it?

My writing has absolutely evolved since I began writing poetry at the start of the global pandemic. It’s almost like six years ago, I had just stepped into this realm, completely unaware of what I was experiencing. I never studied writing poetry; instead I only read poets (Whitman, Hesse, Rimbaud, Hemingway, Milton, Dickerson, Homer, Keats).

I’ve learned that the universe is an ever-opening poem in which our lives are immersed and entangled, almost like the words we use to express it.

Can you give us a glimpse inside the final installment of the Entangled Universes Trilogy? Where will it take readers?

We were born inside a star. Everything that makes up our experience within this universe came from our mother sun, Sol. Here’s an example of how my poetry will resonate in Tides of Light:

The Fragile Silence of Becoming Our Real

We trade light in a dance we were born to make
Your words find mine almost as if they know us
When we met eons past each poem was a song
I’ll know you again, sweet when we’ll sing them.

Flush with our demurs love asks how to be now
When we decide our fates even time plays along
Fragile silences frame thoughts as if we’re alone
When you’re lost remember that light we shared.

I’ve ventured on lonely highlands in search of us
Komorebi shadows taste like a kiss only you gift
Guardian angels perfect our course through time
When you’re ready to dance love, hold my eyes?

Deep, Soul-Level Understanding

Elizabeth Stiles Author Interview

Safe Haven follows a fallen Chicago news anchor who retreats to a crumbling farmhouse and finds redemption among strangers learning to live with their own brokenness. What inspired you to center Safe Haven around rebuilding after loss?

I love writing stories with broken characters—individuals struggling with grief, loss, and regret. People whose wounds run deep, whose silence often speaks louder than words. Yet within this brokenness, they somehow find a thread of hope, a quiet courage, a stubborn perseverance that keeps them moving forward. If they push through the pain, they come out on the other side changed in a way that makes them view the world in a different light. And when their eyes are open, they start to see the silent battles others are fighting. That recognition—that deep, soul-level understanding—is empathy. Empathy is not a character weakness. It is strength wrapped in softness. It is the heartbeat of humanity. To feel deeply is not to be fragile—it is to be brave. In my writing, I strive to illuminate the power of empathy, compassion, and hope for humans and animals alike.

The relationships in East Haven feel real. Were any of the characters or their struggles drawn from people you’ve known?

They didn’t come from any one person, but from a collection of individuals. People who have endured pain and carry wounds that don’t always show, but shape the way they move through the world. I’ve known people who have been through unimaginable tragedies, who have suffered physical, mental, and emotional abuse, and have found a way to heal those wounds through faith, hope, and love. Not in a religious sense—although many people find healing that way—but in a spiritual sense: in the presence of someone who cares deeply, in the quiet of nature, in the soul of an animal. Those are the kind of people I love to write about. The kind I find strength in. The kind that endures and transforms.

You write grief with so much restraint and honesty. How did you find the right emotional balance without tipping into sentimentality?

Finding that balance was incredibly difficult for me. I’ve always been someone who feels deeply, so stepping into Michael’s point of view—a man who struggles to name, express, or even acknowledge his emotions—was a struggle. His tendency to shut down or get angry felt foreign to me. But what started as a challenge became a blessing. It was a character fault that didn’t just serve the story—it shaped it. Michael’s silence, his internal battles, became a starting place for the growth he’d experience throughout the novel. Two things helped me keep the portrayal raw and honest. First, I created Mac—a character who became a mirror and a guide for Michael. Mac wasn’t just a sounding board; he’d done his own emotional work and could recognize the pain Michael was trying to hide. Through their dynamic, I could give Michael space to stumble, to resist, and eventually to speak. Mac helped him find language for the things he’d buried, and in doing so, helped me stay true to the emotional arc without forcing it.

Second, I had a writing partner who acted as an emotional compass. Doug wasn’t afraid to tell me when my own feelings were bleeding too heavily into the narrative—when Michael’s voice started sounding more like mine. That feedback was invaluable. And I learned that emotional truth doesn’t always mean emotional intensity. Sometimes, it means restraint. Sometimes, it means letting the silence speak.

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?

I’m currently working on the sequel to Safe Haven and, if all the stars align, hope to have it published sometime next year. I am also looking at publishing a collection of short stories.

East Texas Flavor

J. Andrew Rice Author Interview

What Is Unseen is a tender, character-driven story set in East Texas, where three lives intertwined by loss and moral struggle seek redemption and meaning amid faith, pain, and unseen grace. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

I live in East Texas. I have seen these stories manifested in the lives of people I know. The culture, in its own unique way, has common threads with other human joys and struggles throughout time. I wanted people to hear these stories in a compelling and literary fashion with a uniquely East Texas flavor. I also want to share these stories with my grandchildren and generations to come.

What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?

Hope, faith, love, fortitude, courage, justice, and kindness.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

I was primarily interested in showing how the East Texas heroes in this story used the driving ideals mentioned above to combat the following evils:
Envy
Greed
Racism
Corruption
Pride
Laziness

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?

An anthology of short stories, Tales from the Texas Timberlands, Volume 2.

It should be available by May 2026.

True Empowerment

Alexandra Elinsky PhD Author Interview

Girl Grit: Savage Not Average is a blazing manifesto that exposes the wounds society inflicts on women and rebuilds them into fierce, unshakable self-worth. What moment or experience first sparked the fire that became Girl Grit?

In August of 2022, I was on vacation in Florida, swimming in a pool by myself, when the idea very suddenly hit me all at once. I came home, put pen to paper, and finished my first book GIRL GRIT: SAVAGE NOT AVERAGE in 5 months.

You write with such raw honesty. Were there parts of your story that were hardest to include or share publicly?

Yes and no. I am a mask-off author. True to my nature, I believe in authenticity and the realness of life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s time we are hit with the truth as a society instead of sweeping real problems under the rug while wearing the façade of our ancestors. We will grow and evolve as a society when we face our problems head-on. As an author, I was never going to transform someone’s life overnight by writing about candy canes and gumdrops; I was going to do it through raw honesty, authenticity, and vulnerability were necessary.

The book moves from pain to power. How did you decide where to draw the line between vulnerability and empowerment?

Vulnerability and empowerment go hand in hand. You cannot access one without the other. Willing to be vulnerable is where true empowerment lies. We diminish our empowerment when we hide behind facades, suppress emotions, and refuse to solve problems head-on. People also usually go the route of drinking, drugs, or other addictions. I wasn’t about to go down those dark paths; I was going to take pain and truly turn it into power in an authentic and meaningful way.

If readers take only one message from Girl Grit, what do you hope it is?

Don’t be afraid of what anyone else thinks of you. Live your life authentically and heal others by refusing to put on the show of being perfect and infallible.

Courageous Attitudes

Gayle Torrens Author Interview

The Tralls of Nosa follows a young girl who brings a strange and beautiful plant home as a gift for her mother, only to discover it is destructive, spreading and destroying everything its roots touch. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

I live in rural Australia, and I am constantly battling outbreaks of lantana. It was introduced to Australia as an ornamental plant, but as is often the case with introduced species, it ran amok.

Lantana is a beautiful plant, but unfortunately, it’s an invasive weed that spreads easily, destroys native plants, is destructive for biodiversity, and is difficult to control. It’s also toxic for livestock, and it increases the intensity of our ever-present bushfires.

In The Tralls of Nosa, I wanted to draw attention to the problems that are caused for native flora and fauna when foreign species are introduced.

The characters in this novel were intriguing and well-developed. Who was your favorite character to write for?

Mia was modelled on my youngest granddaughter, who demonstrates compassion, trust, reliability, and integrity, and I wanted to use those positive traits to create a character that would appeal to my young readers.

Asha, Shea, Cooper, Vail. and Addie were modelled on young friends who constantly impress me with their feisty, faithful, determined, and courageous attitudes.

What was the most challenging part of writing The Trall Series, and what was the most rewarding?

The Tralls of Nosa is the final book in The Trall Series, and I had to work hard to make sure it was fresh and impactful and not a rehash of the messages or events in previous books.

The most enjoyable part of writing this book was finally solving the underlying mysteries that were threaded throughout the series.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from your series?

My aim was for The Trall Series to engender an interest in the natural environment and to make my readers more aware of the many problems it faces.

I hope that the strong, determined young characters in the series will demonstrate that you don’t have to wear a cape and do amazing stunts to be an environmental hero. Everyone can help to preserve their native flora and fauna by making small, impactful improvements in their activities.

One day, as Mia was returning home from the everglades, she discovered a beautiful plant she’d never seen before and thinking it would make a lovely surprise for her mother, she dug it up and took it home. The plant flourished and it soon smothered their gardens and their mudes and kabines; filling them with its tangled roots and burying them beneath its twisted stems and thick foliage. Eventually, the tralls of Nosa were forced to live out in the open.

After destroying the village, the insidious plant forced its way into the forests and everglades, where it quickly killed all the native flora and forced the fauna to leave in a desperate search for food. As a result, the kinships of Nosa were faced with the prospect of starvation for the first time in their long history.
Now, some mysterious incomers have arrived and when it appears that they’ve cast a spell over Asha, the fief’s granddaughter leaving her in a lifeless trance, the kinships are convinced they’re the dreaded Chameleons who tried to force them out of their tralldom centuries ago.

Did they also send the plant to wreak havoc on Nosa and bring its tralls to their knees so they could finally achieve their plan to take over the tralldom?

Could these shattering events herald the end of life as she knows it or can Mia and her friends defeat the plant and the Chameleons, and save Asha?

The Tralls of Nosa is the fifth and final book in the Trall Series; an action-packed collection of portal fantasies set in the Australian bush.

It is suitable for competent readers from nine to thirteen years of age.

The Art of Quilting

Janet Shawgo Author Interview

My Sister’s Quilt is a collection of interwoven stories where generations of women, connected through quilts and memory, discover how love, loss, and legacy are sewn into every stitch of their lives. What first inspired you to connect quilting with storytelling and memory?

Quilts have been in my life since I was a child, from my grandmother to my sister, who is a quilter. I spent time in the Amish community, where women still gather together to finish quilts by hand.

Each story feels both distinct and interconnected. How did you approach structuring the collection to maintain that balance?

The book had to be connected story to story and quilt to quilt to make the book work. I have to admit it was not an easy thing to accomplish, and I spent a lot of time with rewrites to make the book and stories flow for the reader.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

I want to show the readers how far back the art of quilting could be found, how quilts were used in the Underground Railroad. Quilting tells a story; it is art, and its beauty is unbelievable. If you own a quilt, you hold history.

The book spans different time periods. Was there one era that was particularly meaningful or challenging to write?

Each time period was meaningful, and it was so much fun to tell a story, including a piece of history often ignored or forgotten.

A FORGOTTEN QUILT. A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME. A TAPESTRY OF VOICES.

My Sister’s Quilt: A Collection of Short Stories presents quilts as silent witnesses to history, identity, and resilience. Each story is stitched with meaning-threading together lives across generations and continents.

From a quilt that crosses oceans to return to a woman who had forgotten it existed, to coded patterns aiding the Underground Railroad, these stories span eras of struggle and strength. Some pieces honor those who never returned from war. Others raise awareness through the artistry of AIDS memorial quilts or share quiet lessons passed down by grandmothers. A young entrepreneur reimagines quilting with a gothic twist, while a devoted sister supports her famous author sibling from the background.

My Sister’s Quilt is a moving tribute to love, loss, and the unbreakable threads that bind us-where the past and present live in every stitch, and history still speaks. In every square, a story unfolds. In every quilt, a legacy lives on.

Subject to Interpretation

Alexandra Elinsky PhD Author Interview

Girl Glow: Titan of Transformation is a fierce, no-filter manifesto for women ready to reclaim their power, shed their masks, and step into unapologetic self-worth. What inspired you to abandon the traditional tone of self-help books and write something this fiery?

There is no rule book for writing or self-help. My motto as an author has always been “I just want to write something f*cking real.” People need real. They need honest. They need the truth, and I am not afraid to deliver it to them.

If Girl Glow were a conversation with your younger self, what’s the one truth you’d want her to believe?

  1. Do not accept every suggestion as truth. All stories are subject to interpretation.
  2. Being a hard-core BITCH is much better than being a “nice girl.” I was told to be nice, polite, and kind, and all it did was get me “walked all over.”
  3. No one is coming to save you – your savior exists inside of you right now.

What were some ideas that were important for you to explore in this book?

I am into spirituality and power, so I wrote a book combining both concepts.

The book feels like both a challenge and a celebration. How do you want women to feel when they finish the last page?

I do not want to impose my wishes on women. The content will impact them the way it will impact them without my direct influence.
