How Far They Would Go

Author Interview
David Gaston Author Interview

Lure Of The Praying Mantis follows two detectives that are trying to solve the mystery of multiple murders while the villain uses men for her own purposes. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

Having met some manipulative women I did begin to wonder how far they would go to get what they wanted. Most just wanted to play games to prove their superiority, and whilst no one died I did wonder whether any of them would have gone that far.

What was your inspiration for the character’s interactions and backstories?

Buchan’s character was a hard working police officer who ended up divorced because his wife struggled to accept his hard working attitude. This meant that Buchan ended up in a lonely existence but wanted a relationship but did not want another one like he had had with his ex-wife. This caused him some inner turmoil. Daye on the other hand had put her career ahead of a personal relationship which did cause her feelings of loneliness. This resulted in a mutual need which was slow to manifest itself because of inner doubts which they both had.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

How would the two detectives work together whilst hiding their feelings from each other.

What kind of research did you do for this novel to ensure you captured the essence of the story’s theme?

This was a journey of personal experience which I had extended on.

The Teaching Tales I Write

Jean-Michel Polyakov Author Interview

God’s Greatest Miracle follows a traveler who is given the task of sharing the tale of God’s miracle of unconditional love. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The source of this teaching tale is multi-dimensional. I say this because this book contains five stories. The tales of the angels, the storyteller, the transmission, my childhood, and now. Each reflects the themes of our teaching tale.

Did you create an outline for the characters in the story before you started writing or did the character’s personalities grow organically as you were writing?

The descriptions of Morgana and Tristan are based upon actual persons. Morgana is a childhood image of a woman I loved very much named Anna Marie, in Puerto Rico. I mention her and her holy sisters in the book. Tristan is me as a child. After all, how can I produce a story of unconditional love without being in some semblance of this state when I record-live a new teaching tale?

The teaching tales I write are not pre-planned. They come to me as I place my awareness into what I named the Oneirion (the Dreamtime). Soon I find myself operating within a character in a particular storyline, say Camelot or ancient Hellas. My participation in a new story has a beginning but I don’t know the endpoint. What happens as the story becomes more complex, I see “storyline attractors” appearing so to adjust the character and action appropriately.

I admit it is curious. For I am embodying on paper, a dimension of existence that most people are oblivious to. The truths within the story are mine, but more than mine. I am open to what I call the Noble Organ which feeds me what I need to write. I discuss the various aspects of Creation and World Maintenance in my later writings and blogs.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

I am interested in the true teachings of Yeshua. Some we find in the New Testament, but much remains hidden. He gave pablum to the people and meat to his disciples. The foundation of his teaching derives from his unique understanding of the Vedanta and other Indian schools. He taught a workable remedy and method for liberation from endless rebirths with Atman. He saw how people held onto their sins from life to life.

Part of my mission is to expand upon and correct the message given by the various avatars.

My themes are practical and spiritual: (1) moving humanity from egoism-hoarding onto altruism-generosity (to become H dei), (2) the spiritual marriage of man and woman, (3) learning to care for others no less than we care for our families and selves, (4) ending the oppression of the masses, (5) bringing the Kingdom of God to earth, (6) ridding our universe of the archetype of evil, and others.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

THE MEAL BLESSING OF THE ENLIGHTENED.

“May this food nourish the bodily and mental needs of this creature, aiding it in its progress towards final awakening. May I always remember those not having enough to eat, who face oppression, and endure illness to not forsake them but help them. For who am I, if not them? So Mote It Be.”

When a young child hugs our leg, looks up, and
says, I love you, our hearts melt, for we feel the
gift of unconditional love, perhaps for the first and only time in our adult lives. Unconditional love is natural only to the very young, which is why Lord Yeshua loved them. A love he showed us how to rekindle in later life if we choose to leave the Forest of Errors and Return Home.

Suppose you want to live unconditional love. If so, allow two little angels to show you how to love as God would like. Join them on their journey to fulfill God’s plan of making a Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. A voyage teaching them to love each other unconditionally and eventually ridding their planet of egoism and evil.

How do we return home? By remembering our original state of innocence, when we weren’t afraid to love. Listening to our angel within, willing to put altruism first in the physical world to live and work for the benefit of everyone. All God asks of us is to receive the love God bestows, allowing it to shine into our world for the sake of all. Become angels of God again.

This children’s tale is the first codex in the Nouseum sagas. Some codices of the series are for adults and some for children. Currently, I have nine more to publish.

That’s Where The Story Begins

Rick Stepp-Bolling Author Interview

Ulan follows a woman that after being turned away from her community goes in search of discovering more about her gift and how to control it. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

Because Ulan is a major character in the PATCH MAN series, I needed to know more about her. I needed to know why she became an assassin and how she could change from that role to become a leader in the rebellion. In order to understand her better, I needed her background and that’s where the story begins.

What was the inspiration for the relationship that develops between the characters?

Ulan never had a father figure in her life, so I needed to create someone to fill that role, but I also needed him to be conflicted so that their relationship helped Bas to find a kind of solace and purpose. Tara’s relationship with Ulan was a natural development of their intimacy. Tara provided Ulan with a role model in the Lore facility, but she also provided her with a love she had never experienced before and that love helped Ulan understand deeper emotions that would help her in the future.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Redemption is probably a major theme, but at the heart of everything love becomes the primary motivation for most of the characters. I also wanted to explore how a good person could be persuaded to do bad things. What drove Ulan to become who she will eventually be in the PATCH MAN series?

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

Book four of the PATCH MAN series, The Doppelganger Effect, has already been written and will soon be going through the editing process with my publisher, Crimson Cloak. This book takes the characters, Ten, Ulan, Meesha, and Riata into a parallel domain, but where their twins are mirror images. It should be out in another six months or so.

Hidden Deep Within The Lines

Louis Orozco Lopez Author Interview

Finding The Oak Tree follows a young boy that has no memory of who he is or where he came from and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

As a young boy, I was adopted after losing my mother to suicide. When I look back now, I don’t remember anything other than her face and smile and having spent a large part of my life trying to fill the void she left behind; there was a lot inside that, at some point, needed to come out.

This story was not only a tribute to her but to my adopted mother, Joanne, who raised me. It was my way of saying thank you for both of their sacrifices, and somewhere along the way, whilst trying to pay homage to my parents, I have, without knowing it inspired my children. What more could a father or an author want.

Did you create an outline for Sol before you started writing or did the character’s personality grow organically as you were writing?

Sol grew as the story progressed, both physically and mentally, but when I think about the first scribbled lines in my old notebook, I think Sol became a living, breathing person in his own world, but he is now so much more than I dreamt.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Hidden deep within the lines of this book, readers may spot the subtle theme of Dissociative amnesia, which is not something that is spoken about often, so the more I wrote, the more important it was for me to emphasize.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’m currently working on another coming of age novel based on the memory of my best friend, who sadly died a few years ago. The story will be a young adult fiction that mixes key topics such as loss, grief, and mental health whilst following the protagonist on an adventure, or should I say a misadventure.

A Mysterious Relic

Victoria Marswell Author Interview

The Mystery Stone follows an archaeologist that heads to Ireland to look for her missing brother and instead finds a strange relic and love. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

A few things set the story in motion. The initial inspiration for The Mystery Stone began with an article I read in 2016 about a mysterious relic named the Mystery Stone, discovered in Meredith, NH, just as I describe in the book. If readers are interested, they can look it up online and read more about it. In 2018, I viewed the stone when it was on display in the historical society. I have a love for Ireland and the Irish, so I had always planned on writing about locations I visited. I also interweaved my Norwegian heritage into the story, based on a book a distant relative published about our family moving from Hardanger, Norway, to North America.

How much research did you undertake for this book and how much time did it take to put it all together?

There’s a lot of my personal experiences included in my stories since I write about places I’ve visited. I love to travel and it’s a ton of fun to revisit the locations when I start the writing process. Usually, a couple of years pass before a site, city or country ends up in one of my books. I also enjoy studying history, and there’s so much I’ve learned while traveling and visiting historical sites. For The Mystery Stone, I spent about six weeks researching and studying mysterious relics around the world and how stones fit into many cultures’ ancient rituals. At one point, I’d spend hours a day fascinated and disturbed by some civilizations’ sacrificial ceremonies.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

A couple of themes were personal and important for me to share. As a single parent, I wanted to reveal the challenges and feelings of inadequacy in a sole-parent household. The accident that created my character’s overprotective nature was based on a real-life incident that happened to my daughter when she was in my care. It’s therapeutic for me to work through the traumatic experience and come to terms with the fact she survived, and it happened over twenty years ago. Another theme that makes it into all my stories is the importance of family. In The Mystery Stone, I focus on exploring the dynamics of siblings and their differing perceptions, growing up in the same environment.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’ve scheduled my current novel for release in 2023. I can share that the story takes place in Italy. It’s based on my visit in 2019 and, like my other two novels, has plenty of action, adventure and romance! Readers can stay updated by subscribing to my monthly newsletter on my website victoriamarswell.com.

I also have a rom-com short story, Deadwood, available on August 2, 2022. My 2021 trip to the old historic town inspired the story.

A Way Out Of A Living Nightmare

Ken Fry Author Interview

Drunks is a realistic novel following the passionate but tragic relationship of an alcoholic couple that is struggling with their demons. Why was this an important story for you to tell?

It was important for me to tell because of my own experiences and that of others I knew.. Many of the events in DRUNKS did occur. There are a few that didn’t but overall many who have read it have been able to relate to it. That was and is important to tell and does show a way out of a living nightmare.

I appreciated how raw and authentic your characters felt. What were some ideas that were important for you to capture in your characters?

Ideas that passed through my mind were to depict in some way the stealthy degradation that alcoholism inflicts on its victims. In doing so, it reveals the levels to which many descend into, causing them to act violently, cruelly, without compassion, and often criminally. Through Al and Chrissy, i wanted to reveal those traits.

What were some themes that you wanted to explore in this novel?

A major theme was that if you really want something you will get it. If you are in trouble there is always help to be found. Al realised he was in deep deep trouble but found help. He only had to ask. Chrissy surrendered and what she wanted was to drink and she found help in that sad direction mixing with wino’s, drunks, and down and outs. There’s an old adage, ‘birds of a feather flock together.’ Both Al and Chrissy bear witness to that.

A NOVEL THAT LAYS BARE THE DEVASTATION OF ALCOHOLISM.
2022 Literary Titan Gold Award Winner

A realistic drama about the deep, consuming, relentless and compulsive passion between an alcoholic couple struggling with their own demons.

It’s multi-award-winning author Ken Fry like you’ve never read him before. Reminiscent of Days of Wine and Roses — a poignant story of a doomed triangle between a man, a woman, and alcohol.

My name is Alan Markham, and this all happened a while ago, but the memories don’t go away. Looking back, I can see that our lives had been carried along like a rudderless ship in a storm. The life we had is gone. It sank beneath the ocean waves and I was powerless to prevent that.

I’m controlling my problem, but I’m under no illusions. I could come apart at the seams any time… should I pick up a drink.

My memories of what it was like for my wife Chrissy and I, have become a blurred recollection. They hurt. But I need that pain to remind me of what I was and how I got to my present state.

I owe her that, at least.

Are you in control of that glass or bottle you’re holding?
That’s what Chrissy and I thought so too…

Healing From The Trauma Is Possible

Ms. Michelle R Dickey Author Interview

Real Events of Narcissistic Abuse is your memoir of surviving abusive relationships with narcissists and how you healed from those experiences. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Real Events of Narcissistic Abuse: Someone’s Survival Guide was inspired by God through learning how many other victims and survivors are out there in the world. After discovering that this horrific abuse occurs around the world, I knew my story was needed to help others understand that they are not alone, that they are not crazy, and that 100% healing from the trauma is possible. Overcoming the trauma and trauma triggers is and can be done when we know the ‘why’ behind the abuse. When we understand the ‘why,’ we can connect the dots with all the red flags we missed so that we don’t miss them again going forward. The book will inspire and educate others about the very real spiritual battle for the mind, as we learn that the abuser was trying to gain control of our mind.

While the abusers want to control us, it is ultimately the control of our minds they truly want. When they cannot get control of our minds, they will experience what is known as a narcissistic collapse, an adult temper tantrum. It is during this collapse that their true colors show who they really are and who they are not. My story helps others identify if they are in an abusive relationship or situation so they can start planning their escape and break any unhealthy attachments to the abuser. Hence my brand, inspired by Jesus, breaking the trauma bond to the world, to help others overcome unhealthy attachments to people and things so they can truly heal.

My story is one of many about trials, tribulations, and triumphs! It is also a walk with me on my journey into God’s reality. The day I was reborn in Christ is the very day I realized we are in a real spiritual battle between good and evil, and that the abusive behaviors are the real evil we are facing daily. To fight the good fight, we draw closer to God and become a better version of ourselves as we heal and grow spiritually to do all that we are destined to do. We turn our pain into purpose and co-create with our Heavenly Father to benefit humanity with love, light, and laughter through changing that thinking into positive vibes, and live our best life.

What is a common misconception you feel people have about Narcissism?

One major misconception many people have is that narcissism is a mental disorder. When God tells us we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in high places, it becomes clear that narcissism is a spiritual disorder, one where the abusers are disconnected from their righteous spiritual body. Narcissism is all about negativity and low vibration to keep people down so the enemy can keep kicking them while they are down. Abusers do the same thing and that is not a coincidence. Everyone experiences a little narcissism growing up, but survivors who get rid of that victim mentality associated with narcissism start to see exactly what not to be and what not to engage in when it comes to the abuse. It’s called growing up and maturing as we should. And we put away all those childish things like Jesus did (1 Corinthians 13:11).

While narcissism is the “all about me persona,” the ‘ism’ mindset, it is through the spiritual energy transfer that negative thoughts and emotions occur. The abusers cannot process their emotions properly, so they project them outward, abusing others to try and make themselves feel better. When they realize that doesn’t work, it makes them even more bitter. Many experts in this type of abuse will tell you that these abusers are cowards underneath the mask they wear. What we mean by the ‘mask’ is the mirroring of their target to trick their target into thinking they found a soulmate. Narcissism is all about keeping people away from God, so they don’t discover their purpose and get into repentance. Repentance goes hand in hand with the spiritual awakening as we learn to knock it off with childish behaviors and follow God’s commandments. None of us are saints by any means, and that is why we need Jesus, but narcissism will keep people confused and lost while at the same time tricking them into believing they are saved. Talk about cognitive dissonance in action!

Narcissism is also highly judgmental of outward appearances. Narcissism is filled with hypocrisy, lies, deceit, and all the other wickedness we are to refrain from, including idolatry. Narcissism is full of idolatry, putting other people and things above God. Narcissism causes people to lack empathy and compassion for others. Without empathy, a gift from God, the individual will become a narcissistic abuser, even at least a part-time one. Nonetheless, an abuser is an abuser and that’s not okay. I say that abuse of any kind is not okay often for a reason, as it is wrong to go around treating others badly. We are instructed by God to love one another, and we learn to do that from afar when it comes to the enemy. We simply love from afar by not fearing or hating them. We turn it over to God and let Him handle them.

The bottom line with narcissism is that it is designed to trick many into thinking the world revolves around them and that there is never enough. A good example can be found in those who, out of fear, go and buy way more than what they need of a particular item, not thinking about their neighbor who may also need that item. That is classic narcissism in action, not caring about anyone else and only caring about themselves. Narcissism causes people to put themselves above God, and that’s where they mess up.

What is one piece of advice someone gave you that changed your life?

One significant piece of advice someone gave me that changed my life was to start setting strong boundaries and sticking to them. One surefire way to do this is learning to say ‘no’ to things that do not resonate with my spirit and not feel guilty for saying ‘no.’ We learned through the abuse that when we give the abuser an inch, they will take a mile. By setting strong boundaries, we are more easily able to resist the devil and he shall flee (James 4:7). Without boundaries, we are more easily tempted and fall into sin. Once God wakes us up to and from the abuse, we enter a spiritual awakening and what comes with that is repentance, seeking forgiveness for our sins from God. We must have boundaries to pick up our cross and follow Jesus because the enemy will always try to test our faith, using the same tactics repeatedly, as he has no new tricks.

One of the best examples of a boundary that I learned to set the hard way was to never get personal with coworkers, especially if in a toxic and abusive workplace. Another example of a boundary is the disclaimer on my website that lets potential abusers know that if they are just looking for attention or a pity party, then my services are not for them. My consulting sessions are for those who are serious about healing and growing spiritually. Setting that boundary has curtailed an influx of abusers who were just looking for attention and verbally attacking me with mundane gaslights and questions. One made me laugh as they tried to see if they could get me to second guess myself by asking if I was sure I was healed enough from the trauma to help others. My first thought was, “Well, I can see right through your shenanigans, and they won’t work, so yes, I am 100% healed.” So, boundaries are an important thing to have if we are to stay focused on our calling and do the will of God. Without boundaries, we would not be able to thwart the fiery darts of the wicked. Additionally, without boundaries, we allow ourselves to be pulled into many different directions and we sacrifice our inner peace. Boundaries help us keep our inner peace.

What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your story?

The primary takeaway from my story for readers is just how strong they truly are because of God and Jesus! A good example is in the book about how I still managed to keep my GPA high and graduate with my bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors, despite the crazy-making from narcissistic abuse situation number nine. That situation was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and I finally heard God’s call, paying close attention to all the behaviors of the ex-roommate who fit the criteria of a psychopath with everything he tried to do, from putting spyware on mine and my mother’s phone, to rigging up an electrocution ‘machine’ in the house to try and cause me to fall ill. He was living in a fantasy world where he painted me as his wife and the spyware was so he could have a “pretend affair” with someone he tried to triangulate me with. Some parts of that story are comical as he tried to turn his “pretend mistress” into a version of me. The abuse he dished out was not funny at all, but some of the things his pretend mistress did was hilarious. Even during the aftermath of that situation, I was able to enroll into the current doctorate program and once all of that finally calmed down, with a protective order out against the ex-roommate, I have made it to the dissertation proposal stage in the program!

Readers will learn that nothing is impossible with God! Through faith, dedication, and determination, we are resilient and stronger than we think. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, and no man can stop God’s plan for our lives. Readers will be encouraged and enlightened to keep going, healing, and growing. Each time the enemy tried to cause our downfall, we bounced back ten-fold, emerging stronger than we used to be.

The book is an easy read! It is not bogged down with overly sophisticated words and is to the point, without heavy jargon no one has ever heard of, keeping the writing style conversational. With the conversational style, readers can relax and enjoy learning while healing and being educated about narcissistic abuse.

My story about surviving numerous narcissistic abuse situations with real-world examples and additional insight as to how the abuse is part of the spiritual battle for the mind. It has been quite an eye-opening experience in the spiritual awakening as God showed me everything that I went through was connected to narcissistic abuse in many ways. He also told me all of it was to prepare me for what we are doing today to help others heal and grow spiritually!
Our stories matter and can help other survivors understand exactly what is happening on a societal level and how it all ties into the spiritual battle between narcissists and empaths. The reader will learn more about their own experiences with narcissistic abuse and be able to find closure within themselves, as well as understand that none of it was personal.
Plus, the reader will be inspired and empowered to know they can take their power back! Overall, the major takeaway from this book is that survivors will renew their hope and faith that healing is possible, as well as learn the reason why we didn’t see the abuse on an individual level for so long. We learn that we were duped into thinking the abuse was normal until we start to recognize all the red flags on an individual level, then we see them on a societal level.

The Amazing And Intrepid Lawrence Tuckerman

Craig Leener Author Interview

There’s No Basketball on Mars follows an autistic teenage boy who gets recruited into a top-secret mission to Mars. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?

Autism touches all of us — our immediate families, our coworkers, and our dear friends. It’s a disorder that’s very close to my heart. I have a dear friend who lives 1,500 miles away in Dallas. She has a neurodiverse teenage son — really quite an extraordinary young man — and she and I talk often about the challenges he faces and the achievements he celebrates.

When I first felt the calling to write a young-adult novel, I sat down for breakfast at a diner in Hollywood with a YA librarian. I was seeking guidance and a path forward. That librarian told me to consider including an underrepresented main character in my story, and I immediately thought of my friend’s son, and in that moment, the amazing and intrepid Lawrence Tuckerman was born.

What research did you do for this novel to get it right?

I read everything I could get my hands on regarding space travel to Mars and neurodiversity. I also did supplemental research on Vandenberg Air Force Base, the University of Kansas basketball program, medical testing devices, algebraic mathematics, the writings of Carl Sagan, and what goes into making great sushi.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

The theme that rode shotgun alongside me as I wrote the book’s first draft was that of inclusiveness. Young folks on the spectrum are often overlooked and are faced with difficult challenges. I believe it is vitally important that we support these kids, and that we do so with an open heart.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’m currently hammering away at the sequel to There’s No Basketball on Mars. Look for the moon to play a prominent role in the story. Of course, the great sport of basketball will make a cameo appearance in the new novel as well. I plan to publish in fall of 2023.

Lawrence Tuckerman is a fan of probabilities — well, any numbers and math, really. It’s an interest that goes hand-in-hand with his autism. It’s also how he met his best friend Zeke, who is off fulfilling his dream of playing basketball at the University of Kansas. Now Lawrence expects his life in Los Angeles to become even less social and more
routine — just the way he likes it. He plans to finish high school as he pursues his own far-off dream of manning Earth’s first mission to Mars . . .

Then the improbable happens: Lawrence is recruited for a top-secret mission of cosmic proportions! The whole operation relies on him realizing the full potential of his 1-in-6-billion mind—without freaking out. The rocket-science math is a no-brainer, but is he made of the right stuff to manage the communication and cooperation of a team effort . . . without his best friend?
