Countless Nights of Terror

Turhan Halil Author Interview

Turhan Halil Author Interview

Silverblood Demons follows Kylar as he is plagued by demonic dreams that have turned sexual and led him to father three children. What was the inspiration for this interesting and provocative idea?

Thank you so much for asking that question. Since I was Kylar’s age I have been having ‘exactly’ those experiences. Sometimes they would happen day after day, and at other times it would stop for a year or so. After countless nights of terror I began to realise (I’m British, hence the ‘s’ in realise) that despite the supernatural element to the sexual advances upon my body, I would find myself in a weird and wacky way not entirely ‘unhappy’. Part two of the answer is that after talking about this to a close friend that teaches acting classes at her college, (The character Kat in my novel was inspired by this friend) she suggested that I write a book about my experiences and that led to Silverblood Demons being born 🙂

In a whirlwind fashion Kylar is plunged into an unexpected quest to rescue the daughters he never knew he had. What were some influences for the relationship between Kylar and his daughters?

Wow, I never even asked myself that question. Hmm, I guess if I dig really deep, in a flashback kinda way, I’d have to say that the daughter’s my first wife and I lost during her miscarriages may have led to me bringing them back to life in a way that I could reconnect with them again…

There is a lot of well developed characters in Silverblood Demons. Which character was your favorite to write for and why?

Lol, I really can’t select just one without upsetting the rest of my novel’s sister’s and daughter’s etc. They are in many ways, different aspects of who I am in my imagination, or would like to be when faced with real life’s challenges. Sometimes when I’m dreaming I think they visit me (Yeah I know it sound like I’m really ‘out there’ and then again, maybe I am?) they seem to give me clues about which direction I should take in my life.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will that be published?

It’s going to be the 2nd book of the trilogy Daughters of Darkness and is going to be called

Silverblood Sister’s (Yup, that’s a Hungry Monster exclusive title reveal!!!)

It’s currently in progress and I’d like for my cast to hurry up and get their collective acts together by midsummer 2017 so that we can all find out what happened to…

Silverblood Demons (Daughters of Darkness Book 1) by [Turhan]Twenty three year old Kylar has finally had enough of the demonic nightmares that have been plaguing him since childhood. Deciding to learn why some of them have turned so sexual, he seeks answers at a close friend’s occult bookstore where she reveals to him that he has been used by demons to father three girls while in a semi-state of sleeping. Soon after, he also learns that he has two estranged sisters that have incredible powers and together they set out on a journey that takes them to literal Hell and back in an effort to rescue his daughters. While embarking on this quest, he struggles internally with an existing relationship with his current girlfriend. It becomes further complicated when an ex-girlfriend, Sin-dy, that has never given up on the idea that one day they would be together again, also joins him as they face off several times with the demon Ophelexa and her sidekicks. One of his daughters, a natural born warrior, fifteen year old Amber, becomes an integral part of the battle to take back home not just her siblings, but millions of other teenaged virgin girls held in a ‘Paradise’ in Hell that are destined to be used in a fiendish plot to give birth to more demons and ultimately control all of Earth’s inhabitants. Risking everything for everyone comes along with a heavy price that is paid by all that set out on this epic battle that has more beginnings than endings.

Silverblood Demons

Silverblood Demons (Daughters of Darkness #1)3 StarsThere are reasons why you should be afraid of what goes bump in the night. Our dreams are not always our own and the thought that we may be visited during our sleep is an idea that Turhan Halil explores in the novel Silverblood Demons. Our protagonist, Kylar, is faced with the strange reality that perhaps those overtly sexual dreams he has been having for some time have produced something he wasn’t quite ready for: daughters. Now that he knows about their existence it’s up to him to save them from the demonic world where they have been raised since birth. Kylar learns that demons are very real and that they are more than the stuff of fairy tales and legends. In an almost whirlwind fashion Kylar is plunged into this unexpected quest to rescue the daughters he never knew he had.

While Silverblood Demons is formatted much like a Young Adult novel, the contents are quite above what the average fourteen-year-old should be reading. Love is had and love is lost in the pages of this book. Our protagonist finds himself a father at the tender age of twenty-three. The story is involved and there don’t appear to be any characters created just for the sake of creating them, which is a downfall many authors can find themselves in with such a large cast. Everyone has a role to play and they do so quite well.

However, the tale can be very confusing. The first chapter alone contains such a whirlwind of events it leaves the reader wondering what just happened. This is caused in part by the overly relaxed language used and the sheer strangeness of the events that occur. I feel that a good editor could of helped this novels pacing. The unquestioning nature of those around Kylar as he tells them about his plight to rescue demonic daughters from hell creates an unrealistic atmosphere which can detract from the story. Everyone is too nice, too accepting and too readily involved in such a bizarre turn of events.

One way that Halil shines is the imagination it would have taken to concoct this story. The descriptions are quite well done and the way the characters are all tied together is quite neat. Certain relationships are important in the story and the idea of parenthood is a whole lot easier when your daughters are teenagers. But there’s another quest intertwined with Kylar retrieving his kin. Something that will leave readers quite surprised.

While the grammatical errors can make reading Turhan Halil’s Silverblood Demons difficult, if you’re looking for a light read that you don’t have to think about too hard, you won’t be disappointed. There’s something for everyone: romance, sex, adventure and mystery. It’s a perfect little package wrapped up in not-so-lovely paper. Keep in mind that this is book one in a trilogy so whatever questions you may find yourself asking at the end will sure to be answered by picking up the next volume and giving it a read.

In the Eyes of Madness

In the Eyes of Madness (Declan Peters Chronicles Book 1) by [Pang, Michael]4 StarsIn the Eyes of Madness by Michael Pang is the first book in his Declan Peters Chronicles. It follows the life of a young man named Declan Peters whose mother tried to drown him when he was a young child of seven. Well into adulthood, he decides he needs to try and rebuild a relationship with this woman. When he tries to understand the woman that is his mother, he is thrown into a world he never thought existed. One filled with demonic possession, and other beings with evil intent. Beings that are on a mission to destroy his very existence. Is Declan strong enough to combat these beings and survive or will evil prevail?

This book is reminiscent of Seven – X by Mike Welch in that it plays on the realm of demonic possession in a way other authors seem afraid to address. Pang was able to create a dark tone that sends chills down your spine even during scenes that do not address the demonic nature of the beings. The atmosphere of the book remains consistent and readers are left on the edge of their seat wondering what will happen next, or rather what creature will rear their head.  Pang does spend a lot of time with his details in parts, to the point that it may feel like overkill, but in reality it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of reading this book.

The story changes viewpoints with each chapter between Declan, Tristan and Zoe, with Tristan and Zoe being together. At first it’s hard to determine who Tristan and Zoe are and how they fit into the story, but as readers progress into the story it becomes evident that they are major characters in the tale. The book is just under 222 pages, and has so much happening within those pages that keeps readers inching towards the edge of their seats. There is not a moment when the reader will be able to predict what will happen next, if you do try Pang does something completely unexpected and blows your mind.

It is evident that Pang has a strong understanding of the subject matter he uses. It adds to the intensity of the tale when an author seems to be knowledgeable in the genre. It almost makes the book feel more realistic, and that is exactly what Michael Pang has done. He has created a story that makes readers feel as if demonic possession could be something that happens every day. Doesn’t that just send chills down your spine? This is definitely going to be a series that will have people flocking to the stores just so they can get the next book. This story is a thrill ride that will put many horror/thriller movies to shame. It is something that creeps under your skin and remains there long after you have read the last word.  It is the perfect book for anyone who enjoys horror.

The Demon Inside

The Demon Inside4 StarsDarcy is an average teenager; worrying about grades, college, and friends. She stumbles across the love of her life and is happier than she’s ever been. Too bad the world is ending. Mysterious meteors falling from the sky bring death and destruction to the world leaving behind bodies that rise from the dead, with glowing eyes and an insatiable hunger. With the help of her new love, Alec, Darcy is able to save her sister and her best friend. But after the dust settles the hard part begins; living in this new post apocalyptic world.

The Demon Inside begins as many other young adult novels and I was worried that I was in for another coming of age teenage angst type novel. But instead I was pleasantly surprised to find the novel takes a turn early on towards a more post apocalyptic horror story which blends nicely with the aforementioned genre. Darcy is worried about grades, family, friends, and love, and in the first couple of well written chapters those things build a connection between the characters. In the middle of the novel is where Darcy’s friendships and love are really put to the test as the world she knew is destroyed. Meteors fall from the sky and people turn into creatures that feed on other people. Darcy loses her family and she has to go on the run. The group make a new life in a community of people that prefer isolation over friendship. Most of the novel is about the connections that Darcy makes with the people in the community they begin to build. I think that the destruction of the world, and the resulting creatures, was something that drove the characters together, but wasn’t something that moved the story along. The Demon Inside is a character driven story that deftly builds complex connections between people and their motives. All of this great character building leads to a truly heart breaking ending where I was literally left with my mouth open as I read the last few sentences of the book.

I felt that 25% of the story could easily be cut out by a good editor. Removing a lot of over explanations of character movements and overly detailed descriptions. I loved the world building that was going on. I just wish more was left to my own imagination. The Demon Inside is a great read and would be perfect for anyone looking for a young adult novel that is set in a post apocalyptic world.

Sex Hell Seems Fairly Natural

Joe CanzanoSex Hell is a madcap, bizarro romp through the sex lives of four people caught up in a witch’s spell. One thing that really stands out for me is the creativity in the characters and situations. How do you start to write something as wild as Sex Hell?

I think it starts with my influences. I’m a big fan of writers like Christopher Moore, Douglas Adams, and Tom Robbins. To someone with my tastes Sex Hell seems fairly natural.

In one of the defining moments of the story Debbie is given the opportunity to trade in the last three years of her life and get great sex in return. This is a great contrast to her character, but where did the idea for this deal come from?

I believe the witch starts out with ten years but starts getting more desperate as Debbie rejects the offer and eventually drops the price down to three years. The idea came from considering different things that people want; in this case better sex and more youth.

Were you aiming for the bizarro fiction genre when you wrote Sex Hell, or was that something that developed as you were writing?

I set out to write an absurd comedy. I like this term “bizzaro fiction” and might start using it. Maybe it will steer more appropriate readers to the book.

Where do you think Debbie and her boyfriend Mike are a year after the story ends?

Debbie and Mike had certain issues and those issues would probably remain.

What is the next book that you’re writing and when can your fans expect that to come out?

I’m writing a “light” sci-fi book based on one of the characters in Sex Hell. There will be humor in the book, but unlike Sex Hell and my previous novel, Magno Girl, (which the Hungry Monster was also nice enough to review), this new book will not feature the humor quite so front-and-center. The story will be more grounded. The book is called Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody. I’m making fast progress so far, and I have a semi-realistic publication date of June 30 in mind.

Sex HellWhen Debbie de La Fontaine tries to spice up her love life by supernaturally tampering with her sex life, she is cursed to spend every future encounter in a magical place called “Sex Hell,” where the sex is ludicrous and amazing–but the romance is scarce. Her only chance for escape is through the stingy clues supplied by a laughing demon, and the only way to obtain the clues is by returning to Sex Hell again and again to have outrageous sexcapades with the man she most wants to avoid–or does she? Sex Hell is an absurd comic fantasy about the confusion of relationships. How is love related to sex, and how is sex related to love–and do love and sex need to be related at all?Buy Now From Amazon.com
