Keep Sharing Your Story

Anne Smith
Anne Smith Author Interview

Clear Her Name shares your personal story with the legal system in trying to clear your daughter’s name and shares all the things you learned along the way. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I want to prevent other families from going through the same pain.

What is a common misconception you feel people have about the legal system?

Most people believe learning how to make the law work is difficult, but this is far from the truth. It is actually easier than we were led to believe. I learned this the hard way, but my book will awaken people about this truth.

What is one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when this all started?

Silence helps the oppressors, never the oppressed so please keep sharing your story, speak up and speak out. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but it will certainly be worth it.

Clear Her Name is a “mini-textbook”, and true story that will empower LAYPEOPLE (non-attorneys) like Anne to advocate for themselves, their families, their community, and thousands of innocent women and men who were wrongfully convicted and wrongfully committed to receiving the justice they deserve.
She went in for a routine dental procedure. What happened next was a nightmare that lasted for over eight years. A true story that will shock you but also raise your awareness about the legal system and your rights…
When Anne Smith’s daughter went to the orthodontist to have her wisdom teeth removed, she could never have imagined that within a few hours her life would change forever. Suffering from a severe adverse reaction to prescribed psychoactive drugs, she became uncharacteristically violent and arrested for attempted murder.
You would think that being prescribed too many wrong medications that led to her psychotic break would position the justice system on her side, but it did the exact opposite. Persecuted by her own attorneys, State doctors, and a prosecutor with false evidence who painted her as a monster, she was imprisoned, forced to take medications, and denied to be a mother for over eight years.
Witnessing this corruption and breakdown of the system firsthand, Anne sets out to uncover the truth through legal research in an attempt to free her daughter who was trapped between the crosshairs of two powerful entities – the justice and mental health systems. Success would mean bringing the lies used to railroad and condemn her daughter to the public eye, clearing her daughter’s name, and perhaps changing the justice system forever. Failure would result in a certain prosecutor and public offender continuing their reign of terror on her daughter and other families. For Anne, the latter was not an option.

A Theology for the Rest of Us

A Theology for the Rest of Us is an eye opening book that will help you learn more about religion and various religious practices. The author discusses in depth the roots of theology, different faiths and beliefs, and how different religions differ from, or are similar to, each other. I loved reading this book because the discussions are objective and the author does not force the reader to subscribe to his beliefs. What Arthur Yavelberg does is write about different topics and lets the reader choose the path they want to follow themselves. A Theology for the Rest of Us is a great book for readers that always yearn to learn new information about cultures, societies and religion.

Readers will love this book because it answers a lot of questions that bothers believers. Spirituality is widely discussed in the book and the author goes the extra mile to write about how it affects believers of different religions and why it is crucial. In this book you will read about western Christianity vs. Eastern Christianity, compare notes and get to learn of the impact each had. The reader is also educated about concepts and practices in Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism among other religions. I really enjoyed reading about the different religions. By the end of the reading, I realized that in a way, we are all the same despite having slightly different values as humans.

The author also addresses the complexity of certain things in faith, and gives the reader a guide on how to follow your instinct. The author also answers intricate questions about God and his persona. I appreciate the discussions on free will, reincarnation, who to believe, the identity of the divine and why we need to be good. The text in the aforementioned topics will enable you to understand humans and their characters, and make you reflect on self and how you have been living.

A Theology for the Rest of Us is not just a religious book. You will get history lessons from the book and also learn more about humanity. Every reader is guaranteed lifelong lessons once they are done reading the book.

Birds Fly, A Cat Tries

As children, we are taught to believe in ourselves, have faith, and never give up. All of those mantras come from parents, teachers, and caregivers. It’s during the early years of elementary school that we begin to build our self-confidence. Great picture books with engaging plots are just one way to help young children imagine the possibilities and find relatable characters who can give them the confidence boost they need.

Birds Can Fly, A Cat Tries is the adorable wordless picture book by author, T.C. Bartlett. Conveying an engaging and well-developed plot with illustrations alone is incredibly difficult, but Bartlett has more than managed to hand young readers a fantastic story for the ages. A cat who desires to fly–there is nothing more engaging than watching him give it his all. Bartlett’s story teaches readers to never give up and does so through humor, strategically placed nuances in illustrations, and a fun main character who is bursting with attitude.

As a third grade teacher currently in the middle of a unit on central messages, I am excited to incorporate Bartlett’s work into my reading block. Wordless picture books are a great resource for teachers, and watching Bartlett’s birds as they taunt the determined cat will provide my students with the perfect opportunity to brainstorm and write their own dialogue. I am confident that my students will fall as much in love with Barlett’s feline protagonist as I have.

I am giving Birds Can Fly, A Cat Tries by T.C. Bartlett a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. The sweet illustrations and expressive faces of the characters make this book a must have for elementary classrooms. I encourage any teacher or homeschooling parent who wants to teach dialogue to his/her students to include this book in their bag of tricks.

A Dog Can Teach Us A Lot

Author Interview
Brad Malm Author Interview

The Amazing Adventures of Oliver the Wonder Dog follows a spirited dog on adventures around town that show readers how a positive attitude can help overcome any obstacle. Why was this an important kids book for you to write?

First off, I wanted to write it as a tribute to my dog, Oliver, who really is a wonder dog. I also wanted to deliver a positive message to the reader on the importance of courage, determination, resilience, and compassion toward others. A dog can teach us a lot about those traits.

The book shows Oliver helping people around town. What scene did you have the most fun creating?

The scene where Oliver goes into town and is greeted by the townspeople was probably the most fun to create. The illustrator added a lot of nice detail to really make it come alive. It’s a double page panoramic scene where you will notice something new each time you look at it.

What were some ideas that were important for you to explore in this book?

Overcoming obstacles in your life, helping others, and having fun in the process.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from your book?

A love for dogs and reading!

Empower Any Parent And Educator

SHEENA L. SMITH
Sheena L. Smith Author Interview

All Kids Can Thrive is a holistic educational resource for the education of children with special needs. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I felt that it was important to write this book at this time because many parents and educators are struggling for answers and ways to cope through these very challenging times both personally and professionally. Everyone strives to make a difference and it can be frustrating when it seems that you can’t reach a child or simply do not know what to do to help empower a student or even your own child. That is why I’ve searched the world for programs, courses, and mentors to enable me to help others. The biggest yet most surprising discovery is that relationships and safety are two keys to motivating active learning.

‘All Kids Can Thrive’ is for all educators whether the students have special needs or not. Each child is unique and should be valued exactly as they are. ‘All Kids Can Thrive’ is a resource filled with many tips, tools and strategies to empower any parent and educator to be successful with implementation and use of  problem-solving tools.

What is a common misconception you feel most people have about special needs classrooms?

One misconception is that children with special needs should be in their own segregated classroom. That is not inclusion! For true inclusion to exist, students should be part of mainstream classes with meaningful programming adjusted to their abilities and skill levels. Studies show there are many benefits for all with inclusion.  Sadly, despite proof of its benefits, inclusion still has a long way to go with regards to educational settings.

People tend to forget that students with special needs have a right to belong and a right to be treated and honoured as valuable citizens of our communities. This should include the right to be included in regular classrooms with proper support and training for the educators.

What were some ideas that were important for you to explore in this book?

Throughout this book it was essential that I stressed the importance of treating the whole child-mind, body and spiritually. Each child has their own unique gifts, talents and strengths and it is important to assess and build upon those abilities. Honoring a child’s culture and heritage is important to develop a better understanding of thoughts, beliefs, and actions. When the whole child is considered, they can grow, develop, and reach their highest potential physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?

I would love for the reader to see how important they are for the success of the child and that the reader discovers that no matter what the problem is – there is always an answer. Relationships are an important key, and any child can thrive if they have at least one responsible, caring adult in their corner rooting for them that is willing to protect, value and love them.  Love matters most!

The Witch’s Cookbook

The Witch's Cookbook: A Faerie Tale by [Vee James, Nikita Nel, Hannibal Hills]

The Witch’s Cook Book by Vee James is a whimsical tale of faerie that follows our main character, Tardnattle.  Tardnattle is of the Sgahm people, who believes in friendship, cooking, and being good people. He lives happily in his cottage, until the day the storm rolls in. Then his journey unfolds as he and his friends are tasked with returning a cookbook to a spooky witch—and while this seems impossible and frightening, they are Sgahm, and the Sgahm will always do the right thing even when that seems to be overwhelmingly intimidating.

The Witch’s Cook Book is a heartwarming adventure tale full of the fairytales we all love from our childhoods with James’ own inventive storytelling intertwined. Throughout the story, the reader is treated to themes of friendship, love, and the goodness of one’s heart. While this is a book geared toward younger readers, I think anyone of any age could enjoy it, especially when it comes to the loveliness of fairytale nostalgia.

I loved the creative world built in The Witch’s Cook Book. James takes care in inventing wonderful and intriguing fantastical creatures among those known in lore. I especially loved the descriptions of the Sgahm people, and how their innocent desires for joy were manifested in the good deeds that they did for others. The magic that fills this book shows that first impressions are not everything, and I found each character so heartwarming as we learned more about them.

While I loved the lore that James invented, I simultaneously found myself wanting more of it. There are many creatures mentioned with fun names and beautiful descriptions, and I would have loved to learn about everyone that James mentions throughout the story. However, the inventive characters that we do get to meet with in depth histories are exciting and make this story a memorable one.

The Witch’s Cook Book by Vee James is a sweet read that promises a cozy night. It’s a beautiful tale of working together and forming lasting bonds that is sure to remind you that even in the darkest times, a dear friend can be found.

Hard Work Is The Only Path

Pradeep Kumar Yadav
Pradeep Kumar Yadav Author Interview

Shotokan Karate provides readers with clear guidance on how to achieve black belt. Why was this an important book for you to write?

As I am a Sensei or coach in Karate, my first lesson for the students or Karateka is to teach them about the glossary of Karate with photos, so that they all can learn what Sensei is going to ask them or to perform specific stances. In Karate, Karateka learns from the academy but chances are there that he or she can forget next time when Sensei asks for it. So, mostly I used to give them a small paper where I write about glossary or perform Kata in front of the students. I thought that the book would be an alternative for all the students, if they forget any glossary or Kata stances, the book will be an excellent source. That’s why I wrote this wondrous book.

What is the first lesson practitioners must learn on their path to black belt?

First lesson for the practitioners is that hard work is the only path through which they can earn their Black Belt. There is no other source to get Black Belt. Yes, they can take the benefit through this pictorial book where all the Kata stances are performed by me with High-Definition photographs along with Kata’s description, which is very important to understand.

What were some key ideas that were important for you to explore in this book?

None of the authors or Karate Grandmasters, have written a book which is fully colored, Coffee-Table sized, and a pictorial book on Shotokan Karate. I have made this record and for this record, I have conferred with America Book of Records 2021, International Book of Records 2021, Asia Book of Records 2021, and India Book of Records 2021. Besides these three records, there were some other key ideas which were important to include like history of the evolution of Karate date-wise till the inclusion of Karate in Tokyo Olympics, Karate competition glossary, syllabus for all color belts, etc. I can say it’s a complete package for Karate enthusiasts.

What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?

I am sure readers will gain a lot of knowledge and can practice with the help of this book. This is a great book that Karate enthusiasts throughout the world will love to read. It has a lot of information about Karate that readers will take away from my book.

Author Links: Instagram | Website

“FOREWORD” for this magnificent book is written by 6 Time World Boxing Champion, M.C. Mary Kom. The remarkable part of this Karate book is that it is fully colored adorned with high-resolution photographs and its coffee-table size makes it a memorable and unique book in the world.
This book is precious and useful for those Karateka who need to take in Shotokan style Karate from White Belt to Black Belt with the aim of full devotion towards learning and rehearsing Karate. Each pursuer of this book will know much about the fundamentals of Shotokan Kata. What’s more, this book incorporates a portrayal of the positions of some advanced movements of the Shotokan style that are performed by me only, so that every Karateka can see clear photos and catch on it quickly in a simple manner.

ALL KIDS CAN THRIVE

Teaching is hard. There are no two ways about it. It is a demanding profession and is possibly the most underappreciated and simultaneously most important career out there. Somehow, day after day and year after year, teachers continue to make it work with limited resources. Were it not for teachers like Sheena Smith who dedicate their lives to making sure students not only learn but thrive, our educational system would be a travesty indeed.

All Kids Can Thrive: A Holistic Education Resource for a Successful and Conscious Classroom, by Sheena L. Smith, serves as both a fantastic resource for teachers and a pick-me-up for those of us who are at our wits’ end with the current onslaught of changes in education. It is easy to fall into a trap and believe that some children just aren’t able to meet their potential. Many factors mesh together to create a negative atmosphere, and it is one that is incredibly difficult to break through. Smith, however, manages to provide an upbeat handbook that focuses on the silver lining in a sometimes very dark cloud.

One of the most appealing aspects of Smith’s work is the fact that she includes an endless list of resources for every possible scenario. Whether she is addressing self-respect or explaining the benefits of mindfulness, she never fails to include authors who have impacted her own methods. She is a fountain of knowledge, and her book is one every teacher needs in his/her back pocket.

As an elementary teacher who has seen more than my share of heartbreaking situations over the last 25 years, I can say that Smith is dead on. Our children need to be met where they are–wherever that may be. I love the fact that Smith goes into great detail to teach readers about various coping skills and meditation. In addition, she stresses that attention should be paid to the different learning styles our children all exhibit. Recent teaching strategies seem to have left this by the wayside, and I am glad to see Smith, for one, realizes and touts their importance.

All Kids Can Thrive is all-inclusive, hits every major dilemma and scenario a teacher can encounter, and gives practical tips that just make sense. Every child can thrive–Smith knows it, and through her writing and expertise, she is going to make a difference in classrooms everywhere. This is a true must read for new teachers and veteran teachers alike.
