Centuries Old Prophecy

David Crane Author Interview

David Crane Author Interview

Planet of Men follows Blackwood as he seeks the Heart of the Sun in an underground labyrinth protected by ancient monsters. Where did you want to take this novel that was different from book one?

Book One was designed to deal with Professor Peter Blackwood’s introduction to the world of planet Enigma, where he was delivered against his will by the powerful and mysterious alien intelligence, able to snatch the ships from hyperspace and use their crews for its strange and often dangerous experiments in human condition and survival. In the first book, Peter Blackwood becomes a stranger in the strange land, where he is forced to survive and adapt to the new environment until he gets to know the locals, the descendants of the people captured and exiled to planet Enigma centuries ago. In Book Two, informed by both the red cloud and the local rebels against the ruling tyrannical supermen, Blackwood once again has to go against his will to become a chosen messiah to fulfill the centuries old prophecy and eventually accepts this mantle in order to bring justice to the people he likes and wants to protect.

I enjoyed the imagination behind the weapons and battle methods used. What is your writing process like to come up with these ideas?

I am a huge fan of military history, and when I was working on the Book Two, I was inspired by the weapons and battle tactics used by the great generals from the ancient times to the present. My writing process included the detailed study of the applied military tactics depending on the situations Peter Blackwood has found himself in. In the book, Blackwood is not only a scholar, but also a former Space Marine officer with many years of experience in the field. I knew that this combination of knowledge and experience would greatly assist him in his survival and eventual defeat of his enemies who are very powerful and posses a great destructive potential. While working on this novel, I was trying to apply martial arts and military strategies of many talented battlefield commanders. There were three main principles of strategy and tactics that remain true from the ancient times to the present: concentration of force, deception and knowledge of the terrain. My greatest influence for this novel came from the Sun Tzu’s Art of War, which is still considered one of the greatest books on strategy and tactics ever written.

What were some surprising reader reactions you’ve had to book one, Planet of Gods?

Authors are often surprised by their reader’s reaction to their work, especially when the readers are introduced to the sequels. I was surprised a few times when some of my readers said that they had no idea which book they liked the most first or second. I realize that the readers have expectations, and many of them are realistic. Some of my fans were saddened by the death of Sachiko Nomura, while others have told me that as a main protagonist, Peter Blackwood could not love two women who were both dear to him and would have to make a choice. I was also surprised by the reader’s mentioning comic books and how my novel reads as a graphic novel where the readers have to visualize what is happening and imagine what the characters might look like form my descriptions. I do enjoy to surprise my readers when I can, whether by a plot twist or a powerful dramatic event that influences their feelings. Many readers get attached to certain characters and are sad to let them go, even if their sacrifice was necessary. I do get surprised a few times when I read novels written by other authors. Most of them are pleasant!

What can readers expect in book three in the Enigma series?

The Enigma series was planned as a two book series which clearly defined storyline, plot and structure. Initially, I considered to write it as a singe novel without breaking it into two parts. Back in 2013, when I was working on the first draft, I did not consider myself sufficiently experienced author to attempt the creation of a singular large novel in excess of four hundred pages. Breaking the storyline into two parts gave me enough space to maneuver without being overwhelmed. In the second installment of the Enigma series, Peter Blackwood fulfills the wishes of the mysterious alien red cloud, defeats the evil overlords and finds love of a beautiful woman on the planet he has come to love. Book Two marks the decisive and ultimately happy end for the main protagonist for everything he has endured. I am currently working on another science fiction novel whose main character is inspired by that of Peter Blackwood. Working on both novels was a great fun!

Our Only Hope For Survival

Caitlin Lynagh Author Interview

Caitlin Lynagh Author Interview

Lost Frequencies follows a group of people trying to survive a dystopian world while fighting an evil but pragmatic corporation. What was the inspiration for the setup to this intriguing story?

Truthfully, I was inspired by what is happening to Earth and modern-day humans. Climate Change is one of the biggest threats to mankind, there’s still not enough action to solve the issue and opinions are too widely divided. Too many are apathetic to our climate crisis and think it doesn’t affect them or their lives so they don’t worry about it. People with the power to act seem more interested in money and the economy, and unfortunately many solutions to Climate Change will mean change, which affects the economy. People, in particular wealthy people, are the most resistant to change, especially if it’s likely to affect their income. Then there are the people who deny Climate Change altogether, despite the evidence and warnings from scientists around the globe. This creates a world where nothing significant gets done and change happens too slowly. Humans are walking a fine line, and it is easy to imagine Earth becoming like the dystopian world in Lost Frequencies in the near future.

There are many well developed and interesting characters in this book. Who was your favorite character to write for?

This is a tricky question to answer as I enjoyed writing all of the characters because they are all so different, but my favourite characters are Ehi, Ahrl and Varth. Varth was particularly interesting to write as he isn’t a typical ‘bad’ character. He is tormented by grief and guilt and with most of his decisions he has conflicting emotions.

I appreciate the depth with which this story is told. What are some sources of inspiration that guided you while writing?

I was inspired by a collection of ideas that I came up with and let flow. I’m not sure where all of my ideas came from but many have real-life parallels.

One idea came from a series of questions; ‘What would extra-terrestrial life look like?’, ‘Why haven’t we found any extra-terrestrial life like us?’ and ‘If Earth is a basic blueprint for the evolution of life, would life on other planets evolve in the same way?’ These questions led me to imagine Iyeeka and its inhabitants. Conscious species which look very much like humans, with slight differences, and a different history.

I also thought about how human history would have been much different if we weren’t a violent species. What if instead of killing each other, communities helped each other instead? What would that world look like today?

Other ideas came from Climate Change, human destruction, and how unpredictable nature can be. As terrifying as it may be, all it would take to wipe out humanity would be a series of catastrophic events. So I thought about the survival of the human race in the long term. We can’t live on Earth forever as one day our planet will die. This means our only hope for survival is if we inhabit space and master space travel. This has always intrigued me and I keep an eye out for any science related news.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I have just finished working on my latest novel, Quantum Messenger. It is the last novel to be released in The Soul Prophecies Series. Hopefully it will be released later this year or early next year in 2021. Quantum Messenger follows the first sentient robot on Earth as he becomes aware of himself, the world and his feelings and develops a soul. I’m looking forward to hearing about people’s thoughts and reactions. You can read the books in The Soul Prophecies Series in whichever order you like, as they have an endless loop. Indeed, they probably work best in reverse release order.

Their Spicy Attitude

Mark Daniel Seiler Author Interview

Mark Daniel Seiler Author Interview

Shave Ice Paradise follows Gina as she sets out to solve a murder mystery that exposes her to the dark underbelly of paradise? How did the idea for this novel start and change as you wrote?

From the moment we meet Gina, we are on her side. Like when Little Red Ridinghood leaves the safe confines of home, we want to warn her, “Be on the lookout for wolves dressed in pinafores!” It’s inevitable that our hero will encounter what is waiting for her in the dark forest: love and loss.

I appreciated the banter between Gina and Curly and Curly and Moreno. What did you enjoy the most about their interactions?

I confess, the characters crack me up. I love their spicy attitude, how they tease each other and never give in. I appreciate Moreno’s explanation of monster trucks, a phenomenon I’ve never been able to wrap my head around.

I enjoyed the mystery at the heart of this story. Did you plan the novel before writing or did things develop organically while writing?

The writing process begins with the characters, a wild and unruly bunch. I talk with them about my plans till I’m blue in the face, it’s no use, they’re going to do things their own way. It’s a mystery novel, but in my view, at the heart of Shave Ice Paradise is a love story.

What is the next novel that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’m currently seeking publication of my fourth novel, RIFT. Hours after a powerful earthquake strikes San Francisco, world-renowned architect, D.T. Hiro, arrives from Tokyo and finds himself entangled in a violent street protest. Stepping in front of a police baton to protect a stranger, Hiro meets a kindred spirit. The death of a beloved street musician, the destruction of Alcatraz, and two gritty survivors ignite a vision of compassion that heals a city and renews our faith in second chances.

Following her aunt’s suspicious death, Gina Mori, daughter of a Buddhist minister, searches for a missing handbag and discovers the dark underbelly of paradise. A local girl stuck in a dead-end job, Gina stalks corrupt officials, exposes shady land deals, until at last, she comes face to face with the man who murdered the woman who raised her. Shave Ice Paradise has all the ingredients of a delicious mystery: an unsolvable murder, a delightful cast of trusted friends, and an evil antagonist, with plenty of twists and turns leading to a satisfying and unexpected conclusion.

I’m a Romance Scam IT Detective: Psychological games * Real IT Analysis * Legal matters * Gender Studies

Selina Co Author Interview

Selina Co Author Interview

You share your own experiences in this book, and they help clarify how someone can be scammed. What were some things you learned personally compared to what you learned through research?

I have learnt that scamming the scammer is as easy as being scammed.

I have also learnt that many people do not fall for love, but for GREED or for KINDNESS.

And you will be surprised that most educated people got romance scammed in my book – engineer, politician, IT consultant, professor, top business person … all got scammed!

In my book, I have explained a lot of psychology in this game. Well, it is pretty long. Read my book to learn more.

I enjoyed how you presented the information in an easy to understand manner. What do you hope readers take away from your book?

Most of the media has over-simplify the game. The current “signs” and “Red flag” method has a high degree of guess – it does not work for humans. Humans make judgements based on rational data and human relationships.

The revolutionary IT-evidence based method will bring the crime to an end.
In my book, I have illustrated how legal hackers trace the source in a cybercrime. This has been a black box for the general public. I hope the general public can now have a high-level idea on cybercrime forensics.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’m currently full time working as a cybercrime detective. There is NO next book planned.

Unquestioned Soul-Robbing Hollow Gods

James Sniechowski Author Interview

James Sniechowski Author Interview

Worship of Hollow Gods is a provocative book that challenges the ‘hollow gods’ we worship. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Worship Of Hollow Gods was an important vehicle for Jim to continue to extricate himself from the “hollow gods” his family was immersed in.

You examine family, faith and the secrets we hold. What are some themes that were important for you to capture in this book?

Yes, the unquestioned soul-robbing hollow gods were family, alcohol, and the church.

I appreciated how you approached these sensitive topics. What do you hope readers take away from your book?

What we’ve seen over and over again is the reader leaving a review/telling us how this book helped them take a different look at the family “norms” they grew up with.

What are were some reader reactions that surprised you?

The only response that was surprising was the one star review on Amazon by someone who was impatient with all the descriptions and details and saw Jim’s character as “screwed up” blaming his parents and got bored. But, that’s not surprising from someone not interested in people’s internal lives.

Worship of Hollow Gods (Leaving Home Trilogy Book 1) by [Sniechowski, James]In Worship of Hollow Gods, James Sniechowski bears witness to the world of a sensitive, nine-year-old boy, subjected to the underbelly of his Polish Catholic family in working class Detroit. The year is 1950. The family gathers for a Friday night family poker/pinochle party. The outcome reveals a world no one ever talked about then and are forbidden to talk about now—the unspoken, the impermissible, the reality beneath every family’s practiced facade—and what lies beneath when the front has been ripped away.

What If

Val Wilson Author Interview

Val Wilson Author Interview

Miss Morris Must Die is a murder mystery novel taking place in 1950’s England. What was the inspiration for the setup to this intriguing novel?

My inspiration for writing the book was my love of anything Agatha Christie and realised one day that as far as I’m aware, no one has ever been murdered on a murder mystery weekend when this has been a book plot. The women, with the exception of Becca, were designed to be selfish and thoughtless to contrast with Becca’s own kind nature.

The clues, like any good mystery, play a central part. How did you go about creating an intricate mystery like this?

This book has taken me a few years to write and develop. It has been an organic process and I started off with one idea of ‘What if’ and went from there. I tend to write all my books this way with a basic plot idea, then I watch them develop!

Will you be publishing this book? If so, when and where will it be available?

I have submitted this book to a publisher – it’s the first in a three-book series where Becca and Peter are the main characters.

Their Parents Choices

Amy Voltaire Author Interview

Amy Voltaire Author Interview

My Name is Erin, and My Mom’s an Addict is a fictional story of a young girls struggle to accept her mother back into her life after drugs destroyed their bond. What was the inspiration for the setup to this emotional novel?

I am very close to someone who is helping raise her grandchildren because of their parents’ addictions. When I decided to start writing a book, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to write about. One day, after spending some time with the kids I mentioned, I thought about how tough this must be for them, and I realized that a lot of people are raising children who aren’t theirs because the kids’ parents are addicts. I looked online to see if there were any books out there for kids who are going through similar situations, but I couldn’t find any; so I decided I’d write a book for them. I wanted the book to: entertain them, hold their interest, and let them know that they’re not alone. I wanted them to understand that their parents’ choices do not define them.

Erin is an interesting character and I enjoyed watching her develop throughout the book. What were some driving ideals behind her character development?

For years, Erin has lived with hurt, which eventually turns to hurt and anger. She yearns for her mother’s love, but at the same time, she’s angry at her mom for leaving her and is terrified that if she opens her heart to her mother, her heart will end up broken again. As she becomes close to both Grace and George she learns that Gram & Pap aren’t the only people she can trust. Erin also begins to understand that her mother’s addiction has absolutely nothing to do with her. Often, loved ones of addicts feel like they can fix an addict, but the reality is that nobody but the addict has any control over his or her choices. Erin learns in her dealings with Jimmy that she is not the only person who may have something going on at home… something that is embarrassing and that a kid wouldn’t want their peers to know about. She begins to see her own flaws, not only because they’re pointed out to her, but also because she sees a bit of herself in Jimmy. She doesn’t want to continue the angry outbursts and drive away the people who genuinely care about her.

This story deals with drug addiction and how it affects families. What is a common misconception you find people have about addiction?

A lot of people assume that addicts are bad people and that they are worthless. Yes, addicts do bad things, but so do people who have never even tried drugs or alcohol. I’ve known several recovering addicts and all of them are kind, intelligent, funny and talented.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I plan on starting the next book in late June of 2019. In all of the feedback I’ve received, readers have told me that they want me to continue on with Erin’s story—I like Erin, so I’m happy to comply. Hopefully, it will be done and ready to go by this time next year.

God Knows Our Hearts

Dr. Ronel Benade Author Interview

Dr. Ronel Benade Author Interview

Heavenly Whispers is a daily devotional perfectly written for people on the go. Why was this an important book for you to write?

So many people are working unprecedented hours night and day to provide for their family and make their mark in the workplace, leaving them with some guilt for not taking time to give to God. My purpose with this book was to remove that “guilt” we easily place on ourselves. God knows our hearts, and responsibility. With this book I give you, one thought and scripture to focus on, something to ponder during your hectic schedule. I tried to be as balanced as possible, covering different aspects you might encounter or gain new insight.

Time with God has nothing to do with time on a clock, to me it is sacred time during those busy hours where your inner man reflects and speak to God.

This book contains so many beautiful and inspirational selections of scripture. How did you choose what went into this book?

Honestly without the guidance of the Holy Spirit I don’t think I would have been able to write this book. Some life experiences and lessons I have learned He would bring to remembrance, and when praying about it, I would ask for words that would be helpful to the reader.

My favorite is John 17:17 on day 125. Do you have a favorite from this collection?

Day 189, Ephesians 3:16 is just one of my favorites. This one however is based on a personal encounter I went through when I was only a 3-day, born again baby. Back then I did not yet have a Bible, and, when faced with a demonic force I had to take a stand and say “no” 3 times, before that entity would leave me be. This is where I learned about the power our words have. With Christ taking the center within your inner man, you are an unstoppable force.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I just released a booklet in my Mother tongue; Afrikaans, as I believe my own “people” are deprived of new revelation God has for them, and we are in uncertain times in our country. My heart’s desire is that it would release new hope and inspiration. I would like to however release my next book in 2020 but I am working through some ideas.
