Lights Of The World
Posted by Literary Titan
The Greatest Light is a picture book that engages children with examples of kindness that they can embody. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
Our inspiration was the Bible verse that is quoted at the end of our book. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Our desire is to inspire children to live their daily lives as lights of the world, and to show them that small gestures of kindness can mean a lot to the recipient of that kindness.
The art in the book was beautiful. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Steve Worthington?
Steve is a very talented, hardworking artist and he’s a great communicator too. He listened, created, listened again and revised until we were happy with the finished product. His art makes the story. We couldn’t be more pleased.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
The theme we want to convey is the love a grandparent has for his grandchildren and the desire he has for his grandchildren to live lives that show kindness and love, bringing glory and honor to Our Father in heaven.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
We are currently working on The Greatest Servant. Steve is working on it now. We’d like to publish it next fall, as its setting is Christmastime.

Joy, Love of Life and Enthusiasm

In My Home We Believe raises awareness and promotes respect, compassion, and empathy in a world of differing beliefs. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
I have worked with children and families for a couple of decades in various capacities, more recently as a child therapist. In early summer 2020, I was in a therapy session with a 6-year-old girl who was sharing her experience of participating in her first march for human rights. She invited me to join her in shouting the statements she had learned. Mid-statement she stopped and said, “No Odessa!!! You have to say them from your soul!!!” Unbeknownst to her, I was having a hard time saying them not because I didn’t believe in the statements; but I was overwhelmed by her pure joy, love of life and enthusiasm to help others. It was also at that moment I realized the children of today’s generation have such unique challenges; but with their resilience and desire to help, they are going to make this world a better place. As a lover of children’s books, it inspired me to write “In My Home We Believe.”
The art in this book is fantastic. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Andrea Moore?
Thank you! Andrea Moore is a friend and former colleague where we worked together as child therapists. I approached her with rough sketches done by another friend, Natalie Nash. After discussing the vision and mission for the book, Andrea agreed to illustrate it. I am so grateful for her artistic skill and talent that brought the message of the book to life! The illustrations are colorful and represent a diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, abilities and cultures.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
The themes represented in this book focus on relevant topics that children are hearing about everyday; including Black Lives Matter, Women’s Rights are Human Rights, No Human is Illegal, Science is Real, Water is Life, Love is Love and Kindness is Everything. This book is a resource to help explain the meaning behind each statement in a way that children can understand and feel empowered. Andrea and I dedicated this book to children around the world and are donating 10% of the proceeds from every book sold to various charities that support equality, climate change, education and to end poverty and hunger.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
Currently, we are working on translating In My Home We Believe into Spanish!!! We are hoping it will be ready for release next month, February 2022.

What does Black Lives Matter mean?
Why are women treated differently?
Why do so many kids and their families have to leave their homes?
How does science help?
Why is water so important?
What is love?
How can I be kind to others?
This book raises awareness and promotes respect, compassion, and empathy in a world of differing beliefs. With heartfelt illustrations and a beautiful message, this book invites children to feel empowered in making the world a better place through greater knowledge, acceptance and kindness.
Part of the proceeds from this book will be donated to various charities that support equality, climate change, education and to end poverty and hunger.

Ships, Sleighs and Christmas Lights
Posted by Literary_Titan

This stunning picture book captures the spirit of Christmas even if told from a perspective most have never heard of. Based off of the biblical story of Saint Nicholaos, the author intertwines how other cultures have added their twist to the story to lead it to the familiar story of a red suit and hat with reindeer.
Young Nikolaos was raised in Patara, a shipping town where he was taught to pray and about the life of Jesus and God. Inspired by the stories of Jesus, Nikolaos traveled to Jerusalem to visit all the places he learned of. He embodied the spirit of Jesus by giving all he could to those less fortunate than himself. When he was returning home his ship ran into a bad storm and he prayed that they would return to land safely. His faith and kindness are examples of where the spirit of the modern Saint Nick comes from. Saint Nikolaos was known for leaving gifts outside children’s windows, or just handing out things that they needed as he could. The tradition of gift-giving was started as a means to show kindness and help each other.
This picture book will entertain young readers and give them a historical perspective without dampening the excitement of the holiday season. This thought-provoking children’s book allows children to see that different cultures believe different versions of the same story. Captivating illustrations accompany the narrative and make for an engaging experience.
Ships, Sleighs and Christmas Lights: The Origins of Saint Nicholas is a delightful picture book that religious educators and families can all enjoy around the holiday season. It focuses on the meaning of Christmas and not the commercialization of the day. The historical fiction in this children’s book is a great conversation starter as well for what life was like in the fourth century.

Life Lessons For Children
Posted by Literary Titan

Solitary Toes and Brown-Headed Cowbirds follows a pack of hunting dogs and how they react when a horse is brought to their farm. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
The inspiration for Solitary Toes and Brown-Headed Cowbirds began when we lived in Catoosa, Oklahoma. We had horses and many hunting dogs. The memories of all our animals are what I want to record for the next generation of young readers.
The art in this book is fantastic. What was the art collaboration process like with the illustrator Mike Minick?
Mike Minick is a wonderful illustrator. He is an illustrator and a graphic designer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mike and I are very compatible. I send Mike my manuscript which he reads and then we talk about his ideas for the illustrations. He makes many sketches, we discuss, and then he lines them up with the text. He will send me colored-in sketches during this process. Then he completes the illustrations with the text and sets it up in book form according to Archway Publishing’s guide lines. Then we send to the publisher. We spend around one hour each week talking with each other until the process is complete.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
- Life lessons for children shown through animals—team effort, helping friends, being nice to others, and learning from family members.
- Relationships between different kinds of animals.
- Learning about nature.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
Chatty the Hen Pheasant (Travels With The Pack) – It became available 11/11/2021.
Desert Friends (Travels With The Pack) – I’m sending it to Archway Publishing in a couple of weeks.

No Regrets: Hope for Your Caregiving Season
Posted by Literary Titan

Caregiving is a selfless act that not many understand. In her book No Regrets: Hope for Your Caregiving Season author Rayna Neises writes about caregiving and taking care of parents in old age. Aging and growing old are inevitable and children often find themselves as the primary caregivers to their parents when they age. Rayna Neises addresses all children that are taking care of their parents, giving practical tips on how to be a great caregiver and how to handle different situations while caregiving.
No Regrets: Hope for Your Caregiving Season has two main parts, one focusing on caring for others and the other focusing on caring for yourself. One of the main lessons I got from reading both parts is that for you to take proper care of others, you have to be well yourself. Take care of your physical health, take care of your mental health, and protect the energies you love and move away from negative energies.
As you read this enlightening book you realize that caregiving requires both emotional intelligence and compassion. The book teaches that as a caregiver, you should put the other person first and get to understand where they come from. The information and advice delivered among the heartfelt stories will help readers learn to be compassionate and be more appreciative.
One thing that kept me going as I read is how personal the author made the stories feel. Rayna Neises shows a personal side that readers immediately fall in love with when reading her book. The author does not hide her intimate moments nor is she shy to share how she feels about caregiving and what her experience has been. Readers will connect with and appreciate Rayna Neises for sharing deep moments of her life. All of this serves to connect the reader with the author so that the pragmatic advice she shares feels workable.
The thought-provoking stories that are shared throughout the book made the reading experience enjoyable as a mini-memoir. This book is much more engaging than a regular ‘how-to’ book on caregiving. If you are new to caregiving, then this book is for you. The topics that are covered in the book will be very helpful to readers that are not well versed with the subject of caregiving. There is a wealth of knowledge shared in the book, including keeping the family intact, navigating balance, working as a team, dealing with obstacles and how to overcome barriers, when to ask for help and understanding everyone’s needs. This is a fantastic resources for caregivers and will surely improve the lives of many.

The Hole Story
Posted by Literary_Titan

What is a hole? Is it just an empty space, or is it something more? The Hole Story takes children on an adventure exploring all the different holes there are in the world around them. Everything from holes in nature, to their home, to even their clothes and body. This picture book gives kids a lot to think about and teaches them to look beyond the surface of the things they do see.
Children are inquisitive and finding a hole outside to explore is a great adventure. Author Lori Croy has written this picture book with the curious nature of children in mind. She takes children on a tour of the obvious holes like in a tree or in the ground and then goes further like a puddle, even a hole in your sock. The simple language and fun examples that go beyond the ordinary will keep children engaged in the story.
The colorful illustrations by Katelynn Hoefelman bring this highly original storybook to life. The artwork does not just tell the story but encourages children to explore the world on the pages and find examples in their own world. The combination of artwork and narrative will give teachers and parents a lot of openings to discuss ideas.
The Hole Story is a fun play on words, as it is meant to be the whole story on holes. Teachers will love having this creative picture book in the classroom and parents will love having it to read at home where they can use it to point out different holes in their own home. This engaging story will take children on an adventure to see that holes are more than just an empty space in life. Reading this clever picture book will delight children in early elementary grades as they discover the amazing world of holes.
