Connect with God in Real Ways

Karen Brough Author Interview

Take A Step With Him Companion Guidebook takes readers on a transformative journey to discover a path to spiritual renewal and illumination in Christ’s love. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Writing this series was something I cannot take full credit for. Every element of the guidebook was actually a moment when God spoke to me, encouraged me, and lifted me out of my pit season. Every verse, song, journal entry, every question, was given to me as a personal encouragement. And they still encourage me – how could I not share that with others who are feeling dry in their faith, are walking hard roads of life, or just want to connect with God in real ways?

Should readers use this guidebook in conjunction with Take A Step With Him or after finishing previous books?

Great question. Each book can be a stand-alone, or read in conjunction with its companion book. It doesn’t matter where you begin, but if the reader wants to track the health testimonies, the first book, Be Held by Him, is when I was most unwell, and each book set represents levels of healing, hope revelation, and freedom.

The testimony books were always designed to be like a soft pillow of encouragement, tending and ‘nothing required from you,’ kind of reading. The ideal readers for these books are those who are dealing with health/life challenges and diagnosis, are walking hard roads of life and need some hope, or those who want to read some miraculous things that God has done with and for someone who could do nothing.

The guidebook is the activation and applying the things that are shared in the testimony books. Readers have let me know that the guidebooks are wholly unique devotionals that can appeal to anyone on a spiritual journey.

What were some goals you set for yourself as a writer in this book?

Honestly…to finish!

It has been a passion project spanning 12 years living it out, and around 9 years writing it.

I am not much of a goal-setter.

Personally, when I write with God, then the kind of driven, striving space, and goals and strict timelines aren’t conducive to creating with Him. Having said that, I guess a goal I have about the books is that they’d find their way into the hands of those who need it.

I always wanted to give one book away for every three others purchase – that has been a satisfying thing to see who God brings along my path and how the books impact their heart. That is the kind of goal I love.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from Take A Step With Him Companion Guidebook?

God’s motivation is always love, and He wants to connect, be found, and begin/continue a life adventure that you never thought possible, in the BEST possible way!

Guitar

Guitar is the perfect book for you if you are looking to learn about the guitar. By reading this book you not only learn how to play the guitar but you also get to know the different parts of the musical instrument. Ken Jackson also shows readers how to hold the guitar, clean it, along with safekeeping instructions. Learning about the guitar is an interesting and fascinating experience. Like the author puts it, ‘there is more to just playing the guitar’. Clicking on the strings, knowing which fingers to use and which notes to hit best.

The best way to learn any instruments is by looking at the illustrations that accompany the text. There are plenty of images and illustrations that guide you as a reader when you are reading Guitar, and I liked how clear the images were. The reading experience is pleasant because one can easily understand which part of the guitar the author is talking about.

A few pages in one can already feel the love the author has for the guitar. Ken Jackson is passionate when he writes, and this translates to the amazing work he shares with everyone. The author reminds every guitar player, whether a rookie or expert, that there is nothing as soothing as having your instrument and playing any song you want. Owning a guitar is a wonderful thing. By knowing how to play the guitar, you can make a hobby out of it, play it for entertainment or even make some extra cash out of your skill. Ken Jackson’s book will help you realize that learning to play the guitar is not as complicated as some people may assume. All it takes is patience, concentration and passion.

I learned plenty of musical terminologies from the book. Learning the musical jargon and learning new phrases felt powerful. Ken Jackson did an incredible job introducing those that are not familiar with the terminologies. What I also enjoyed was how the author explained and defined the music terms in simple but comprehensive ways. This book is easy to comprehend as the author does not use complex expressions or images. I loved the surprise songs in the book. The author included tens of songs, and showed the reader how to play each of them. Singing the songs and practicing with the notes shared looks like a fun activity both for expert players and newbies.

Guitar by Ken Jackson has great vibes and cheers one up. This book is an exceptional starting point for anyone wanting to learn guitar as it is filled with practical advice and easy to understand instructions that will help level up your guitar skills.

What Came of the Tough Times

Bryan Falchuk Author Interview

Bryan Falchuk Author Interview

Do a Day: How to Live a Better Life Every Day is written using your experience with turning your life around; losing weight and eating healthier. What was the thing that motivated you to write a book and help other people?

I have seen the Do a Day philosophy work so well, not just for myself, but for all the people I’ve been coaching and mentoring over the years. No matter how many hours I spend coaching, I still can help enough people, so I wrote the book to share the approach with as many people as possible. Based on the feedback, it’s working. Not a day has gone by since the book came out where I don’t get some kind of outreach from someone who the book has impacted.

What I like most about this book was that there were stories from your own life in it which helped me relate. Where there some experiences you felt were harder to write about then others?

Yes, definitely. It was hard to go back in time to some of the more painful moments in my life, like when my wife was in the throws of her illness and it wasn’t clear she would survive, or some of the pain I experienced as a child that shaped a lot of who I am today. But there’s so much growth from those moments that I have benefitted from, so I focused my mind of what came of the tough times rather than dwelling in the toughness of those times. That is, I used Do a Day in looking back. Instead of being trapped by past pain, I looked at what I can achieve today.

Personally, it was also very hard to talk about parenting. That chapter is the shortest in the book, and the one I wish I could do more with. I think it was hard to write because being a parent is so profound and powerful, but also because this isn’t my son’s book and he didn’t choose to be in it, so I wanted to balance respecting his privacy with getting the message across. I shared only one story in that chapter, and I think it’s enough to illustrate the point I’m trying to make, but the chapter is clearly different from others in the book.

I felt that the book did a great job giving sensible advice about everyday life. What is one thing you hope readers take away from Do a Day?

The one thing I want them to take away is the power the approach offers to overcome and achieve. Being free of the past and simultaneously not living in fear or anticipation of the future is incredibly empowering for you to do the best you can today. Each day of doing your best adds up to a life that is full of achievement instead of sadness and regret.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

My plan for my second book is to move to the next step in Do a Day. The first book was some of my stories.

For the second book, I want to share the stories of my readers and people I work with.

I have only experienced so much, but the stories people come to me with are so varied and profound, I think reading about this and seeing how Do a Day helps in even the most extreme situations would be incredibly impactful for those looking for a connection to their experience that they couldn’t find in the first book.

Beyond that, there are some specific situations that warrant a full book on them alone. I don’t want to give too much away, but I can see a series of deeper dives into these tougher life situations with more specific guidance on how to put Do a Day into action to overcome and achieve.

The good news is, life is ever changing, challenges keep evolving and are always specific to each individual experiencing them, so there is so much to share with Do a Day. You can expect much more from me and Do a Day over the years to come. I’m so excited to help even more people change their lives.
