The Scholars Love This Book
“Jacobi Jacobi What can I Be” is a vibrant ABC book that helps children develop literacy skills while improving their self-esteem. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Ayanna Niambi?
The collaboration with my illustrator was amazing. Ayanna saw my vision for each illustration and was able to illustrate vibrant pictures that captured the words on each page of the book. The process was seamless and I enjoyed working with her.
How do you see your book fitting into a teacher’s or parent’s lesson plans for their child?
As I travel across the country doing Author visits, the scholars love this book. My book fits the classroom well, particularly Pre-k through 5th-grade bands. The vocabulary introduces scholars to high-frequency literary words that enhance their vocabulary while boosting their self-esteem and confidence. In addition, there are so many educational concepts in this book that Teachers can use in their classroom lessons, from letter recognition to social-emotional lessons.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
My third book will be released at the end of June “Jabez Jabez What Do You See?”

New Aquatic Friends
Daisy Meets the Dolphins follows a loveable little dog who goes on a boating adventure and meets some bottlenose dolphins. What was the inspiration for the main character’s traits and dialogue?
Daisy Meets the Dolphins was created for our 25th wedding anniversary, on that day we all took a day trip to an near by island called Rathlin Island not far from Ballycastle, a coastal resort in Northern Ireland.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
I wanted to create an adventure book with Daisy meeting her new aquatic friends from the ocean, filling it full of heartwarming hugs to bring to life the power of connecting with different cultures and the joys of friendship with others regardless of where they are from. I hoped to use this book to spark meaningful conversations and inspire kindness in children.
What were some goals you set for yourself as a writer in this book?
To explore the world through the eyes of Daisy? When writing, staying true to yourself and letting your heart guide you is essential. After all, there are so many stories and adventures we want to share! With every paw step we take, I wanted to ensure my readers felt they were right there with us, experiencing every wag of the tail and sniff of the nose that Daisy takes. I wish for every reader to handle all the emotions and see all the pictures in their little minds as we embark on this journey together. Woof! Says Daisy…
I hope the series continues in other books. If so, where will the story take readers?
Each book is unique and very different as we explore the world and write another Daisy story.

Witches Could Be Clever
Winifred the Wonder Witch follows a whimsical good-natured witch who uses creative problem-solving in different situations to help herself and others.What was the inspiration for these stories?
The inspiration to write ‘Flying Santa’ and ‘Winifred the Wonder Witch’ was my granddaughters. When they were small I told them many stories, and these were the two that resulted in a book.
What were some of the emotional and moral guidelines you followed when developing your characters?
I thought that witches in many stories had ‘a bad rap.’ I wanted to show that witches could be clever, kind and helpful – like many other heroes.
What were some educational aspects that were important for you to include in this children’s book?
Winifred is an excellent problem solver. From Winifred, children could learn how to be smart, kind, and help those in need. She also knows how and when to involve others in her projects.
Will there be more stories about Winifred the Wonder Witch, and when will they be available?
There may be more Winifred books, but only if ‘Winifred the Wonder Witch’ proves to be popular.

In the second story, we meet the princesses who want to save the dragons; because ‘there aren’t many dragons left in the world.’ Winifred, as she does in ‘Flying Santa,’ comes to the rescue in her inimitable, dramatic and exciting style.
The Bunnies Need Help
Chocolate Space Bunnies follows a group of bunnies that love chocolate who are looking for a new planet to live on. What was the inspiration for your story?
This is the first in a series told by the truth-stretching storyteller, Ooey Gooey Looey. As the Ooey Gooey song goes (link attached for your entertainment 😉 Ooey Gooey Looey loves chocolate, but any kind of candy will do. And for a Snickers or a Twix or a Skittles or a Kiss, he’ll tell a tall tale or two. The story of how Ooey Gooey became a storyteller is to be told in one of the next books in the series called French Fry Fortune Teller. Ooey Gooey Looey is all about chocolate, and tall tales, so somehow, in my crazy brain, the first story turned out to be about a chocolate planet. Sometimes, I can’t even remember where the ideas come from.
The art in this book is fantastic, it really made me crave chocolate. What was the art collaboration process like with illustrator Luis Peres?
Luis Peres is a gifted artist, and his company “I Create Worlds” couldn’t be better named. Luis is in Portugal, but we communicated often throughout his illustration process. With many illustrators, it is a very linear process… manuscript to storyboard to final. But Luis and I laughed about concepts along the way, and we really connected. He is indeed fantastic, and he is on board for the whole Ooey Gooey Stories series.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
All of my books, War at the Ice Cream Store, Rocket Red: A Little Ant with a Big Dream, The Prickly Problem: Dr. Pete the Porcupine, and this one have an underlying message of kindness and acceptance, wrapped in a light, humorous package. If kids (and adults!) start with kindness, all good things will follow. In this book, the kids are curious, the parents are frightened, and the bunnies need help. Once the bunnies are known, they are no longer strange aliens, and everyone’s worlds are enhanced.
What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?
Luis has already illustrated French Fry Fortune Teller (as I mentioned above-the back-story of Ooey Gooey Looey), and there are two manuscripts getting ready to go. Within a few months, we should have a new one out there!
