My Soul Mission

Joy Vottus Author Interview

Transform Your Cosmic Self is a spiritual guide that charts a path from awakening to ascension by blending autobiography, metaphysics, and practical exercises to help readers explore their spiritual evolution. Why was this an important book for you to write?

It was a Divine calling for me to write Transform Your Cosmic Self after years of soul-seeking and awakening—experiencing both the profound highs and lows of my spiritual journey, which ultimately led me to reunite with my Higher Self, the enlightened aspect of my consciousness. Through this reconnection, I was guided to create a comprehensive guide that intertwines my personal experiences with the Divine wisdom I’ve channeled, to illuminate the path for others who are also navigating their journey of awakening and ascension.

This book is a vital part of my soul mission—to help others expand their consciousness, embody their Divine essence, remember who they truly are, and contribute to raising the collective consciousness of humanity. It serves as both a roadmap and a companion, blending personal story, higher teachings, and practical exercises to support readers in their spiritual evolution with greater clarity, confidence, and Divine alignment.

What is a common misconception you feel people have about awakening and ascension in relation to finding their Soul Purpose?

A common misconception is that awakening and ascension happen suddenly — as if one day you simply “wake up” enlightened and instantly know your Soul Purpose. In truth, awakening and ascension are not single events, but ongoing journeys of self-discovery, healing, and self-mastery.

For every soul, the ultimate purpose is to transcend the cycle of rebirth. Within each lifetime, we are presented with unique lessons and experiences designed to support our spiritual evolution. Many people remain unaware of their greater Soul Purpose until they begin the awakening process. As we evolve, we come to realize that our purpose is not something to seek outside ourselves, but something that unfolds naturally from within as our consciousness expands.

Awakening and ascension invite us to release energetic blockages, raise our vibration, and realign with our Higher Self. It’s not about reaching perfection or a final destination — it’s about walking the path of evolution in alignment with our true essence and allowing our true Soul Purpose to unfold with Divine timing.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

This book is not just a collection of theories or spiritual concepts — it is an integration of my own first-hand experiences gathered over decades of spiritual evolution, combined with the Divine wisdom received through direct connection with my Higher Self and Ascended Masters. It interweaves transformative insights with practical inner-work practices that have emerged through years of soul searching, ascension work, and self-mastery.

It offers a comprehensive roadmap — from the foundational principles of creation to guidance on transcending the cycle of rebirth — providing readers not only with tools for spiritual awakening but also actionable practices to support their ongoing journey of ascension and soul evolution.

How did you develop, or choose, the exercises you use in your book, and what is the best way for a newcomer to explore consciousness and multidimensional existence to get started down this path?

This book is written in a natural flow, so I recommend starting from Chapter 1 and following through each chapter in sequence when reading for the first time. The exercises in this book were carefully developed from decades of personal spiritual practice, energy work, and direct guidance from my Higher Self and Ascended Masters. They combine experiential practices, meditations, and reflective exercises that I have personally used to deepen awareness, release limiting patterns, and expand into higher states of consciousness. Each exercise is designed to help readers access their inner wisdom and cultivate a deeper connection with the true essence of the self.

For newcomers, the best way to begin exploring consciousness is through simple, consistent practices that foster presence and self-awareness. Meditation, contemplation, and energy-focused exercises are excellent starting points. It’s essential to approach this journey with curiosity, patience, and compassion for yourself — awakening and multidimensional exploration are gradual processes. Start small, honor your own pace, and allow insights to unfold naturally as you expand your awareness and reconnect with your Higher Self.

The Passage of Time

Nick Malara Author Interview

The Admiral’s Gamble follows a decorated officer at the end of his long career, who stumbles upon a mysterious device capable of altering time and leaving him to decide how the future will play out, and at what cost. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

The inspiration came from my fascination with the idea of fate versus free will, how a single decision can ripple through time and alter everything that follows. I’ve always loved sci-fi movies and have a deep respect for the military, so I wanted to see if I could combine the two in a meaningful way while keeping traditional values and storytelling at the heart of it.

I found Admiral James Harrington to be a well-written, in-depth character. What inspired him, and what drove his emotional turmoil throughout the story?

Admiral Harrington is a blend of strength, regret, and redemption. He’s inspired by real-world veterans and leaders who carry the weight of their choices long after the battles end. His turmoil comes from the struggle between doing what’s right and doing what’s necessary.

I think everyone, at some point, wonders “what if” — what if we could change a single moment or decision from our past? That’s something everyone can relate to, and it’s what makes Harrington such a human character. He represents that quiet part in all of us that looks back and wonders how life might have turned out differently.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

The main themes are sacrifice, morality, and the passage of time. I wanted readers to think about the price of second chances, that even with the power to change the past, you might lose something far more valuable in the process. The story also touches on legacy, how we’re remembered, and whether it’s worth altering fate to protect that legacy.

What is the next book that you’re working on, and when can your fans expect it out?

My next project, Return What Was Taken, was released not long ago. It’s a psychological thriller that explores what happens when the mind begins to fracture, dealing with mental health struggles and the battle between reality and perception. I think that’s something many people in today’s world can relate to on a personal level.

I’m also working on a new full-length novel that combines elements of sci-fi, fantasy, and thriller. It’s a bold story with deep characters and moral questions, similar in tone to The Admiral’s Gamble. My goal is to have it completed sometime next year.

When time fractures, one man must risk everything: his career, his past, and the future of humanity.

Admiral James Harrington thought his final mission was behind him. After decades of service, he’s preparing for retirement until a top-secret assignment throws him into a war not bound by space or time. A temporal breach has unleashed chaos, rewriting history and threatening global collapse. Now, Harrington must lead a mission through shifting realities and fractured timelines, where every choice could erase the people he loves or doom millions. As old enemies resurface and long-buried regrets return, the Admiral must confront not only the mission but himself. This explosive sci-fi thriller blends military strategy, time travel, and deeply human stakes, perfect for fans of Jack Campbell and The Expanse. The Admiral’s Gamble is a story about courage, consequence, and the impossible decisions leaders must make when the future is on the line.

Abundance of Wisdom

Dr. Allison Brown Author Interview

Heart Horse is a moving anthology that weaves together twenty deeply personal stories about the bond between humans and horses from all walks of life who have found meaning, recovery, or transformation through their connection with these gentle, powerful beings. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Although I am not a typical “horse person,” horses had been attempting to get my attention over the past few years. These “pings” came in a variety of ways. For example, in 2021, my husband and I purchased a piece of land in the Virginia mountains that, unbeknownst to us, happened to be in the middle of horse country, with horse trails running up and down the mountain. This automatically opened up our social network to these beautiful animals and their people. In our metaphysical practice, we found ourselves working with a plethora of clients seeking to connect more deeply with their horses. It was during those conversations—between the equine and their human—that we realized these majestic beings held an abundance of wisdom for humanity. I knew that their stories needed to be told.

Do you have a favorite story in the book, and if so, why does it hold special meaning for you?

Each story is meaningful in its own right, and it would be impossible to select a favorite. What I will say, however, is that I didn’t expect to be brought to tears over and over again, as I worked with the stories during the editing process. Even during a second or third pass, I found myself tearing up. Our authors wrote with such heartfelt authenticity that their words convey not only a literal account but an energetic message, as well. So, while the reader’s mind processes the words, the soul resonates with the deeper wisdom.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in putting together this collection?

The biggest challenge for an anthology editor, in my experience, is working with multiple authors—specifically, compiling a wide range of writing styles and voices into a cohesive project. As with any collaborative effort, the diversity of participants is its strength. But at the same time, it requires an editor to navigate with sensitivity, respect, and aplomb.

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be published?

I currently have three books in the works: an investigative project about Mars, another that presents a unique perspective on angels, and a third that will dive into a new approach to Astrology. In each of these, I am taking off my editor’s hat and co-authoring the books with three other subject-matter experts. Palm and Lotus Publishing, the company I founded with my husband, Will, is the publisher for each of these exciting new projects! Look for the first to debut in mid-2026.

The term Heart Horse is used to describe the deep bond—a soulmate-like relationship—between a horse and its human, special enough that many equestrians believe there is only one heart horse in a lifetime. Because this connection is so powerful, the potential for profound transformation is high. Exploring universal and poignant themes, such as grief and joy, illness and recovery, death and rebirth, Dr. Allison Brown presents a magnificent collection of life-changing, often life-saving stories, each scribed by a human author but inspired by their equine partners. These twenty, gifted writers are an esteemed and accomplished group, including an award-winning author and animal communicator, the 2024 Equus Foundation Humanitarian Award winner, and a NASCAR retiree, brought together for a common goal: to remind humanity about what’s possible when we connect with The Horse.

Illuminating Human Connection

Nora O’Brien Author Interview

Navigate Family Technology explores the modern family’s dilemma of how to help children thrive without letting technology consume them, focusing on topics such as communication struggles, social media traps, empathy loss, anxiety, and sleep disruption. Did you find anything in your research of this story that surprised you?

I learned so much while researching the book, I’ll try to narrow the answer down to a few!

  • That most Modern Tech executives strictly limit their family’s tech-use time and send the kids to low-tech schools
  • The number of online predators actively working every day
  • The amount of information we take in daily compared to 20 years ago
  • The staggering number of hours of screen time displaces connection and well-being activities

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

My mission is about illuminating human connection in a disconnected modern world. Technology is one of the key drivers of this. We are often alone together on individual devices.

I also found it important to cover technology’s impact on empathy and distress tolerance.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from Navigate Family Technology?

That overuse of technology is not our fault. Or our kids’ fault. But now that we understand the problem, it’s our responsibility to be intentional about it. And that we can do it – we have so much living to do and real-world connections to make.

Sense of Foreboding

Kaci Curtis Author Interview

Along the Trail follows a young woman traveling westward with her family in search of new beginnings on the Oregon Trail, who learns about resilience, love, and the freedom and cost of such a dangerous journey. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?

I grew up in Kansas City, MO, which is about 20 minutes from the town of Independence, where the Westward Trails began. It was a point of interest for me, starting all the way back in elementary school. I found everything about it fascinating: the adventure of it all, the beauty of the wilderness, and the extreme grit and hope that the people of that time had to possess in order to even begin. But I also wanted to make sure to highlight the drudgery, the discomforts, and the dangers that they faced along the way. I didn’t want it to be overly romanticized, as that would downplay the magnitude of the obstacles that the travelers faced, which was the opposite of what I hoped to do during the story.

Winnie is a charismatic character that readers get to watch figure out who she is and what path she wants to follow. Were you able to achieve everything you wanted with her character in the novel?

I doubt any author can ever say they achieved everything they wanted with a character, haha. Well-developed characters often seem to move through their story on their own, and it’s all the writer can do to keep up with them! But honestly, I wanted Winnie to be representative of her time and her circumstances. That said, she had to be open-minded enough to recognize that some of her initial reactions to things she encountered during their journey were not justified reactions – rather, that some of them came as a result of fear and not from her own experience. I do think that she’s a relatable character, and even an admirable one. Not everyone will so readily admit to being wrong as she does. Not everyone chooses personal growth, but Winnie does.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

I think one of the biggest themes for me was that the setting (thousands of miles of wilderness) was often the protagonist, but also sometimes acted as the antagonist. Such an environment was brutal and beautiful. Stunning, and stifling. It had to flow and change along the way, and at other times, remain so similar and vast as to seem unconquerable, like the travelers were barely making progress at all. It was important to me that the setting inspire both a sense of wonder and a sense of foreboding.

Another theme that I hope comes across is that of resilience, enduring hope, and personal growth. The characters experience some grueling physical challenges, and also some tough mental ones – things with the potential to break anyone’s spirit. But instead of turning on one another, or even turning back, they come together to form a community and rely on each other in times of need. I didn’t want my characters to be stealing from one another, or harming each other – I wanted them to represent the best of humanity, to help rather than harm, wherever possible. Perhaps that’s a bit naive, but there’s enough doom and gloom in the world these days; I chose to highlight human resilience and hope rather than focus primarily on division.

That’s not to say there aren’t some nuanced perceptions that the characters have to overcome to achieve personal growth, because that’s one of Winnie’s main character arcs. But she gets through it because she has the introspective honesty and open-minded nature to acknowledge a prejudice in her world, analyze the validity of it through what she experiences (rather than what she’s told by others), and come out the other side with her own opinion. And I hope that journey shines through for readers.

Will this novel be the start of a series, or are you working on a different story?

I’m seriously considering writing a sequel and making it a duology. There is a lot left to explore with the Hayes family once they reach their destination, and also a lot that I’d like to expand on with Mae and some of the other strong secondary characters.

Even though their journey ended once the overland travelers chose a spot to settle, their hardships did not. It was grueling work to build a homestead, to make it through winter in an unfamiliar territory. There’s a lot to discover there that I think would make for a great second novel.

In 1847, Winnie and her family are traveling west to start a new life in the Oregon territory. While many in their wagon train fret over river crossings, disease, and encounters with Native tribes, she relishes the unexpected freedom of life on the trail.

Threatened by storms, wild animals, and outlaws, Winnie must rely on the bonds she’s made and all she’s learned in order for them to make it to Oregon alive. She also must decide if she is ready to risk forming an attachment to Hal, the cowhand who has a knack for showing up just when help is needed, or whether she will emulate Mae, the free-spirited daughter of their trail guide.

A Trusted Source

Michael Dow Author Interview

Nurse Florence®, What is Albumin? follows three friends who are talking to the school nurse as she outlines what albumin is, its role in the bloodstream, and its significance in overall health. Why was this an important book for you to write?

The human body is amazing, and we should all learn how it operates. Human physiology should be taught from a young age all over the world so that we have societies that perform at high levels due to increased knowledge and healthy living. Nurse Florence® seeks to support that objective.

How much research did you undertake for this book, and how much time did it take to put it all together?

I referenced a research document about albumin from the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research to guide my writing. Nurse Florence® always uses research-based documents to guide all discussions so that the series can be a trusted source of medical information. I review these documents and then summarize the findings into a fifth-grade reading level.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

I wanted to make sure the purpose of albumin was clearly stated, as well as issues that can occur if there are low levels of albumin in the blood. Hopefully, this book helps remove a little bit of the complicated mystery that the human body is.

What topic are you currently in the middle of writing a book on?

We have around 150 Nurse Florence® books in production, with a new book published every 3-7 days. We hope to not just bring knowledge to the world, but also motivation for current and future generations to live a healthy life so that we can be as productive and helpful as possible.

Life-Changing Journeys

Dr. Allison Brown Author Interview

Awakening Stories is a collection of personal essays written by twenty-three individuals who share their spiritual and emotional transformations. What was the inspiration behind putting together this collection of stories about personal awakening?

After navigating my own spiritual transformation over the past ten years and listening to the stories of others, I recognized a pattern. People often felt alone, sometimes crazy, as if no one else could possibly understand what they were going through. Since these types of experiences are so unique— deeply personal and often traumatic—it is important that we break the stigma and mystery surrounding spiritual awakenings. This anthology covers a variety of themes and experiences in the hope that readers will find at least one story that resonates, realizing that they are not alone and are always supported.

What was your process to collect the stories, and how did you decide what to include in this anthology?

For this anthology, I sought out authors from diverse demographic backgrounds who had successfully navigated a variety of life-changing journeys. I wanted readers to see themselves in those stories, to know that they are not crazy, not alone, and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The authors who said “yes” to this project recognized the importance of sharing; they were willing to be vulnerable in order to assist others. They felt called to this project, and I am in gratitude for their contribution.

Did you find anything in your research of this book that surprised you, or that you found especially moving?

What surprised me, truly, was the authors’ courage—their willingness to tell their stories boldly and revisit sometimes painful memories. Even those who didn’t experience a “dark night of the soul” had navigated events that were challenging for them to integrate, such as an NDE, UFO encounter, or out-of-body experience. As the anthology editor, I was moved by their strength and tremendously grateful for their gift to humanity.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from Awakening Stories?

My hope is that readers who have navigated (or may, in the future), their own spiritual transformation will find advice, refuge, and strength in these stories…that they will recognize themselves in the words of our authors and know that, though the ride might be bumpy, the outcome will be beautiful.

Powerful Tools for Storytelling

Naomi Shibles Author Interview

Wing Haven follows a fairy who finds herself queen after being betrayed by her sister, and along with some unlikely allies, enters into a dangerous adventure. Where did the idea for this novel come from?

I looked on Submittable for short story and flash fiction writing contests because I think it’s a good way to flex your writing muscles, and saw one which must have had a fairy or forest theme. I hit the word count limit and had so much more to say about Almond’s journey that I just kept going.

There was a lot of time spent crafting the character traits in this novel. What was the most important factor for you to get right in your characters?

I think archetypes are powerful tools for storytelling, and each character has a role: the hero, the sidekick, the love interest, the comic relief, the villain, the muscle, etc. In Wing Haven, the hero is a fairy, the sidekick is a chipmunk, the comic relief is insects—and they have motivations and quirks corresponding with their roles in the story that I hope draw the reader into a suspension of disbelief that allows them to go along for the ride.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Some of Wing Haven’s most important themes are self-reliance, chosen family, and acceptance. Almond must learn to live outside of the regimented Fairy Nook, where there are no rules or safety nets, but also learns to trust the creatures she befriends. They’re a ragtag group of very different creatures who accept each other as they are and appreciate each other’s strengths.

Can fans of Wing Haven look forward to more work from you soon? What are you currently working on?

I am excited to share that I’m working on my first closed circle murder mystery, but I also have ideas for more adventures for the Wing Haven crew, so sign up on my website for updates.
