Cocaine In Her Wedding Dress
Posted by Literary Titan

Something Scandalous, Treacherous, and Black follows two people planning to be married who are harboring secrets that could shatter their well-conceived plans. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
Honestly, I went to a wedding where the bride did cocaine in her wedding dress, and I was like this would be a great book.
All of the characters are engaging and have memorable qualities. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
I always love the idea of my characters being real people. Alan Heathcock, who wrote the book Volt, said he likes to believe his characters are real people, and he writes down what they do. I just love that people aren’t one hundred percent good or evil.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
This book was huge into the concept of second chances. Paige and Leo being the huge aspect of that. I think everyone makes mistakes or timing isn’t right in their lives, so it’s magical when life gives you that second chance at love, a career, or being your true self.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
The next book to come out will be The Bitch Cup on 8/3.

The only problem is Paige is still in love with Leo, her college sweetheart, and Joshua has been sleeping with Joey, the best man.
Unknown to the couple, Joey plans to sabotage the wedding because he is in love with Joshua. To further complicate things, Chelsea, their new wedding planner, wants to humiliate Paige to get back at her for their messy past with Leo.
Paige and Joshua are friends; more than that, they are engaged to be married. No, obviously not for love but to find their individual happiness. Joshua needs to marry a woman to keep his inheritance, and in return for entering this loveless marriage, Joshua will pay off the debt that looms over Paige’s parents. It is a win-win! The issue is that betrayal, scandal, and a deadly accident lie below the surface of this simple marriage for convenience.

“What Does It Take To Make It?”
Posted by Literary Titan

Making It in Country Music is a combination of a memoir and a guide to the country music business, providing readers with behind-the-scenes information and life lessons. Why was this an important book for you to write?
Any successful musician will tell you the most common question asked of them is, “What does it take to make it?” It’s no different for me. My (un)healthy coffee habit is financed in part by people asking to sit with me over a cup in Nashville or LA, or in any of the venues we play nationwide every year. Over one too many lattes, I decided to sit down and put all my advice in one place. I spend a lot of my time helping musicians make it to the next level in all sorts of ways.
The ever-evolving country music business that has been mostly confined to Nashville but is expanding rapidly, especially post-pandemic. In the book, we address the toll taken by the pandemic and what expectations and predictions we have found for the future of country musicians—which will apply to much of the entertainment industry.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
I’ve worked hard to be able to pivot with the needs of the industry that keeps me busy even when I’m not on tour. I moved to Nashville about twenty-five years ago with my drums, a cat, and a vision, and I’ve made those dreams come true. For almost twenty years, I have played on some of the world’s biggest stages with country superstar Jason Aldean. But that’s only part of my experience. My deep involvement in the music business has really promoted a long career, not just the single aspect of being an “entertainer.” And that’s what I want to be able to share with anybody who wants to create a long-lasting mark in the industry. You have to be part of the community and do your part to maintain tradition, even while blazing new paths. We hope that this book will find those people who want to make their mark in country music and that it will provide guidance and reassurance that entertainment is still crucial to the nation’s psyche.
What is one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were younger?
I wish someone had said, “Hey kid…it’s all about relationships!” I learned that in my later years, but my early years were all about one thing…practice! Human beings make the world turn and you just can’t have enough professional relationships.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from your book?
Many country music “how-to” books focus on the Nashville side of the business, and a good deal of them are aimed at songwriters or are memoirs of people who have been successful in different aspects of country music. This book is a true insider’s guide; there are many interesting facts and stories from other successful country musicians, and even from some up-and-coming artists, who can provide a sense of what things are like before you “make it.” But you can love this book even if you aren’t considering a career in music. If you are interested in country music and find the behind-the-scenes workings fascinating, you’ll love the details of all the different kinds of jobs in the industry and the tour of places and people who are important in the history of country music. Along with practical advice, I provide many of my own experiences to learn from, as well as stories, advice, and predictions from other well-known musicians and professionals in the country music industry. This is a behind-the-scenes book that’s fun to read, as well as informational.

Musical Nationalism in Indonesia: The Rise and Fall of Lagu Seriosa
Posted by Literary Titan

In Musical Nationalism in Indonesia: The Rise and Fall of Lagu Seriosa, author Sharifah Faizah Syed Mohammed meticulously dissects Lagu Seriosa, a unique musical genre, and its instrumental role in shaping post-colonial Indonesia. Mohammed’s exceptional narrative transports readers into the heart of Indonesian culture, history, and society, all through the lens of this captivating music form.
The book reveals a profound comprehension of Indonesia’s historical context and its societal dynamics. Throughout its pages, Mohammed beautifully illustrates the nation’s identity, from its political evolution to the vibrant individuals that comprise its population in both Indonesia and Malaysia. Readers become more than mere observers; they are offered a seat at the grand banquet of Indonesia’s rich culture, experiencing an in-depth exploration of the local traditions, customs, and references.
Mohammed’s writing, strategic and systematic, orchestrates an enlightening journey into the intricacies of Indonesian and Malay languages. She illuminates their similarities and differences, cleverly intertwining this linguistic discussion with the essence of music as an art form. Furthermore, the insightful examination of Lagu Seriosa legends underscores the influential role of musicians and the arts in societal development.
The book transcends the mere exploration of Lagu Seriosa, shedding light on the impact this genre has had on the construction of Indonesian nationalism and the emergence of iconic figures within the country. The narrative seamlessly weaves together historical strands, making the decades of the 1950s and 1960s come alive with vivid nostalgia, even for readers who never personally experienced those times.
Mohammed’s engaging storytelling is paired with impressive patience and precision in explaining unfamiliar and indigenous terms, practices, and traditions. As a result, readers gain a deep, nuanced understanding of Indonesian culture. Her writing reflects an admirable composure that deepens the reader’s immersion in every aspect of Indonesia portrayed in this fascinating book.
The crown jewel of this book is its compelling depiction of art’s societal role, exemplified by the enduring legacy of Lagu Seriosa. By highlighting this genre’s longevity, the author invites a broader contemplation of colonial and post-colonial music forms in different cultures. Despite the modern rise of pop culture, Lagu Seriosa stands as a timeless genre, respected by music enthusiasts and cherished by senior citizens of Indonesia.
Musical Nationalism in Indonesia: The Rise and Fall of Lagu Seriosa is a remarkable exploration of music, history, and culture written by a talented Asian / Muslim woman. In a field that is dominated by men, her work with music stands out with a unique voice and comprehensive analysis. With its thorough historical examination, engaging tone, and authentic portrayal of Indonesia, it fully deserves my recommendation. This book is a rewarding read for those interested in understanding the vibrancy of diverse cultures, particularly those related to Indonesia.

Posted by Literary Titan

Ten-year-old Fred is visiting his grandfather, who loves to repair old clocks. But Fred would rather be anywhere else in the world, as the constant ticking of his grandfather’s many clocks prevents him from sleeping! But as the clocks strike midnight, a strange adventure begins for Fred, as he encounters the elderly Maestro Orpheus, Winder of the World Clock. Entering a vast otherworldly dimension, Fred discovers the importance of time as he explores the stories of those who came before. Together with Maestro Orpheus and the singing Lyre, Fred must face his fears as they work together to protect time for everyone.
The audiobook Maestro Orpheus and the World Clock is created by Robert Pennee and Joanne Grodzinski. This gentle adventure story strikes the perfect balance of whimsy and reality. The audiobook version enhances the story and is simply splendid, with beautifully performed classical music, engaging sound effects, and wonderful voice acting, adding even more magic to this fantastic tale.
I love good stories about time travel, and I love music, so this adventure was a perfect one-stop-shop of wonder. The storytelling is well-paced, and although a few slightly serious themes are encountered, they are handled expertly, making them appropriate for children. I also loved that the importance of music was a keystone of the book, with stories of famous composers woven throughout the narrative. In addition, the kind yet mysterious Maestro Orpheus, the inquisitive Fred, and the magical Lyre all add their own special element to the story. I simply can’t speak highly enough of this magical tale.
At just over an hour long, Maestro Orpheus and the World Clock is suitable for all ages and a perfect fit for storytime together on a chilly winter’s eve. This is an incredible story with excellent narration, acting, and lovely musical accompaniment. This whimsical tale of music, magic and the importance of time is a classic sure to find a permanent place in your heart.

Musical Soul Mates: A Girl Who Hears Music Everywhere
Posted by Literary Titan

Musical Soul Mates is a beautiful children’s book about a girl and her love for music. The story follows young Eleanora as she dances and sings the day away. Although she’s having fun now, she’s nervous about Show and Tell at school tomorrow. Luckily, her friend Aria is there to help her come up with a solution that will help her show the class who she is and what she is passionate about. The class, and readers, will learn that music is all around us.
Author Cindy B Witty has created an educational children’s book that shows how important music can be to a person. If your child listens to music all the time, just like Eleanora, then they will love this children’s book. This book creatively shows how music can come to life and help us when we need it.
The colorful artwork by illustrator Estelle Corke really brings Eleanora to life. Readers will be able to easily identify her emotions and all of her actions throughout the story, which is important because Eleanora moves with the music.
Musical Soul Mates: A Girl Who Hears Music Everywhere is an educational children’s book that will show young readers how to handle stress with music and will show all children that music is in everything. Highly recommended to anyone who has a passion for music, or parents with kids that need help overcoming their anxiety.

What Could Have Inspired Them
Posted by Literary Titan

Icarus Flies Home follows a Jazz bassist as he tries to publish his great-great uncle’s lost music, only to discover someone else has claimed the rights to it. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
We took a tour of one of the biggest former plantations in the South. As we toured the home and went into the parlor, the guide told talked about the famous people who had likely spent time there, including literary and film stars, people like George and Ira Gershwin. Maybe they had even passed through at some point. As a musician, I wondered what could have inspired them and what if, I wondered, they had heard something that influenced their own musical compositions?
Beauregard (“Bo”) Sonski-Abbott wants to honor a lost relative but has to overcome unbelievable odds to do so. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
He’s torn because he wants to think the best of people. He also doesn’t know how to wrap his mind around something so profound, that his relative lived his life enslaved and all he must have endured. He was a musician and Bo was trying to understand how one could still find joy amid the horrors and tragedy in a life like that.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
Legacy, family relationships, love, marriage, and who really owns a song; the idea of intellectual property when a person had been stripped of all rights.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
By this fall/2022! A murder mystery about a sax player. There’s a pretty obscure event in jazz history that this book explores. It takes place in Brooklyn, NY and St. Petersburg (Russia).
