The Orphan Maker
Posted by Literary Titan

The Orphan Maker, by D.A. Chan, is a gripping thriller that plunges readers into a world where vampires lurk in the shadows and revenge is a dish best-served cold. The story follows Damien Shaw, a hardened vampire hunter, who is obsessed with tracking down the sadistic vampire responsible for the death of his family. Armed with a set of strict rules and a burning desire for vengeance, Damien’s relentless pursuit brings him face-to-face with dangerous adversaries and moral dilemmas, making for a page-turning adventure that blends horror and suspense.
From the outset, this book hooks you with its intense prologue, setting the stage for Damien’s quest for retribution. The author masterfully portrays Damien’s inner turmoil and his struggle to stick to his own rules, which often adds a layer of tension to the narrative. Each chapter reveals more about Damien’s character and his relentless drive, making it easy to sympathize with his plight even when his actions toe the line between heroism and madness. The pacing is swift, and Chan does an excellent job of keeping readers engaged with well-timed revelations and cliffhangers. The author’s writing shines in the detailed battle sequences and the dark, atmospheric settings that enhance the story’s sense of danger and urgency.
The narrative alternates between fast-paced action and quieter, more introspective moments, giving readers a well-rounded experience. The character dynamics are intriguing, particularly the interactions between Damien and his allies and adversaries. The complexity of Damien’s relationships, especially with characters like Jess and Bishop, adds depth to the story. Jess’s interactions with Damien are filled with tension and unresolved feelings, as shown in “Glass Half Empty.” Meanwhile, Bishop, the rival vampire hunter, brings an additional layer of conflict and unpredictability. These relationships keep the plot dynamic and add emotional stakes to Damien’s mission.
The Orphan Maker is a compelling read that will appeal to fans of dark fantasy and supernatural thrillers. D.A. Chan combines elements of horror, action, and psychological drama to create a story that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. Readers who enjoy intense action sequences, complex character interactions, and a touch of macabre will find this book to be an exhilarating addition to their bookshelf.

Anatomy of a Vampire
Posted by Literary Titan

Anatomy of a Vampire by John Matthias is a captivating exploration of the mysterious world of vampires that beckons readers to delve into their multifaceted nature. Dr. Ariel Lucard, our intrepid protagonist, is presented with a fascinating opportunity to continue the groundbreaking research initiated by the vanished Dr. Edward Kelly, who delved into the enigmatic realm of vampire studies in Romania. Driven by his innate curiosity and an insatiable desire to unravel the secrets shrouding vampires, Lucard embarks on a journey that takes an unexpected and thrilling turn.
Vampire tales have always held a unique allure, offering a diverse spectrum of interpretations, from fearsome monsters to alluring and seductive creatures. Matthias’s book is tailor-made for aficionados of this genre, as it provides an exhaustive exploration of vampire myths and lore through the lens of a dedicated researcher. It offers readers invaluable insights into the intricate tapestry of vampire mythology. Through the vivid and immersive journal entries of Dr. Lucard, the author seamlessly transports the reader into the intriguing world of vampires. One aspect I particularly relished was the scientific approach to the narrative. It felt as if I were conducting my own research, delving into every facet of vampires, from their heightened senses to their bone structure and even down to their menacing teeth. The book’s stylistic resemblance to Bram Stoker’s Dracula added an extra layer of enticement to the reading experience. The inclusion of captivating illustrations breathed life into Dr. Lucard’s journal, enhancing the overall immersion. It was truly fascinating to explore how the various folklores, beliefs, and myths surrounding vampires varied based on region. Some of the journal entries seemed like surreal dreams, while others read like real-life experiences of Dr. Lucard.
Anatomy of a Vampire offers an enlightening journey for enthusiasts of vampire lore. It meticulously unravels the complex web of vampire myths, making it a must-read for those with an insatiable fascination for these enigmatic creatures. It is a book that not only informs but also enriches our understanding of this captivating and enduring legend.

Light Outside of the Darkness
Posted by Literary-Titan

The Neighbors follows a maternity nurse working nights who, after being disturbed by her new neighbors, asks them to keep it down and finds herself drawn to them. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
Zoe, a maternity nurse, was a side character in All I See Are Dark Clouds that I thought was appropriate to give her her own story. I worked alongside some nurses who were just kindhearted and passionate with the work they do so The Neighbors was a way for me to give back to them and other nurses I met along the way. Although I don’t personally know a maternity nurse, I tried my best to capture a day to day life and the type of personality nurses generally have with a little fantasy twist.
What are some things that you find interesting about vampires that you think make for great fiction?
The vampires I write about are just lost souls that are trying to find their light outside of the darkness. Symbolic and a representation of the dark side of humankind.
What were some ideas that were important for you to personify in your characters?
When I started writing The Neighbors, it started out as a way for me to take a strong female character to the next level in the second-person narrative. It was vital Zoe was a maternity nurse since she was a side character that tied-in with All I See Are Dark Clouds. I let Zoe take the lead and incorporated stigmas that an actual maternity nurse may go through, like people assuming they get to play with babies all day. Little did I know the depth of her character and why she pursued a career as a maternity nurse to begin with until it all became full circle.
What is the next book you are working on, and when will it be available?
The next two books in The Dark series, The Darkened Enchantment and Infinity Tales (A Dark short tie-in) can be anticipated sometime in 2024.

Marked for Extinction: A Games of the Underworld Novel
Posted by Literary Titan

In the hauntingly constructed dystopia presented in Marked for Extinction by YD La Mar and Skylar Evans, vampires dominate, pushing humans to the brink, hiding in shadows, and desperately clinging to hope in the face of insatiable predators. Our protagonist, Vik, emerges as a stalwart member of the Resistance, confronting these vampiric adversaries in daring above-ground operations, each sacrifice exacting a profound emotional toll. As a physician, the responsibility for every life lost burdens Vik, driving him toward aggressive tactics as the only conceivable path to liberation. Enter Ines, a beacon of defiance against her predetermined role—one where she’s reduced to mere childbirth and awaiting the foregone conclusion of her spouse’s death. As their paths intertwine, Vik and Ines navigate a gauntlet of challenges, solidifying an indomitable alliance along the way.
La Mar and Evans interlace themes of despair with threads of hope, crafting a narrative rollercoaster. The synergy between Vik and Ines, highlighted by Vik’s transformative arc, becomes a captivating focal point. However, while the leads are meticulously fleshed out, some secondary characters somewhat blur into the backdrop, yearning for more definition. As a chapter in the “Games of the Underworld” series, Marked for Extinction adeptly establishes ambiance and context, yet it also stands firmly on its own merits. The authors’ vivid depictions of fear, longing, and angst imbue the story with depth, but a note of caution: some scenes delve into mature themes, warranting discretion for sensitive readers.
For readers ready to immerse themselves in a world of dark intrigues and electrifying engagements, Marked for Extinction is an entrancing offering, especially for fans of thrilling narratives and shadowy romances.

A Little History And Girl Power
Posted by Literary-Titan

The Four follows a group of teenage girls with unique talents in New Orleans who learn to rely on one another for friendship and acceptance while facing a dark fairy. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
The book came about in an unusual way. I wrote an adult commercial fiction book & was in the midst of querying. One evening I received an email from an agent I had been corresponding with and I excitedly opened the email to find a plethora of praise surrounded by a “but at 137K words I will have to pass but will be cheering you from the sidelines.” So, I was disappointed since I had put a lot of hope into this agent. I decided it might just be that I had never written a novel before & it didn’t matter what I wrote. So, I sat down and wrote a query letter for a YA novel, since most of the agents I had queried were interested in YA, for a book that didn’t exist. The next morning, I received a request for the first 25 pages, and The Four was born.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
Once I began in earnest, it was very important that I convey acceptance. I had four very different girls who were alone with their secret, and I loved the idea of showing the awkwardness of beginning a new school, the challenge of high school, and being different but throughout all of that finding your squad. The very important relationship of a girl’s first real friendships.
Each of the girls in this story has different powers. In fantasy novels, it’s easy to get carried away with the magical powers characters have. How did you balance the use of supernatural powers?
I wanted the story to be grounded. There are so many books where the powers and supernatural become the focal point of the story. I wanted the friendships to be the center and I really wanted New Orleans to be almost a character in itself. I also tried to toss in a little history and girl power along the way. An example of that would be Joyce, a young survivor of the Titanic, who is the spokesperson for the hundreds of souls buried in her crypt.
Will this novel be the start of a series, or are you working on a different story?
The original book The Circlet is in edit, and I have begun a new project that blends Gaiman, Baum & The Legend of King Arthur in the environs of Savannah. With that said, when you purchase a copy of The Four from me there is a bookmark & sticker hidden inside the pages. The card asks the reader to tell me who of The Four they most related to. It’s been really lovely. I received one response who told me she was allergic to everything, but since it didn’t bother Mallory, my hemoglobin-intolerant vampire, it wouldn’t bother her anymore either. Along with lovely messages, I have been getting requests for sophomore year. I was told recently that I need the write the girls through college. So, the little unlikely book might have started something I never intended. I think the girls of The Four would like that.

As they journey through freshman year of high school they face the trials and tribulations which come with discovering and embracing their differences. Together they will battle the dark fairy world to save a friend in the magical city of New Orleans. Along the way, they encounter a collection of creatures, both magical and mortal, under the rising full moon.
The Four is a tale of friendship, acceptance, and self-discovery, infused with the whimsy of Tim Burton and the magic found only in New Orleans. This is a story of finding the courage to be yourself and embrace your unique talents, no matter how different or unusual they may seem.

GOD OF NOTHING
Posted by Literary Titan

Author Shane Scott’s God of Nothing is a thrilling fantasy book about Titans, Demons, Angels, Vampires, and Bool. It has an interesting take on God, creation, and all associated with it. If you understand traditional Abrahamic faiths, this book will particularly challenge your perspective. Generally, it follows the story of Satan and God’s daughter, Aja Ashe, and her descendants – Sel and Jaxx. Because of the time difference that exists between its protagonists’ adult years, the story hops from the present to the past, sometimes even going back to the beginning of creation. Ultimately, this book covers the birth of Aja Ashe, her discovery of her immortality, her love life, her son’s life, and the love life of her grandson.
As we read from page to page, we understand who Aje Ashe is, her capabilities, and her values. We also get to see how her life choices have affected those close to her. If there’s one thing that the author does well, though, it highlights the duality of the book’s different characters. Only a handful of characters are just pure good or pure evil. Most are layered, complex, and nuanced, like real-life people. This makes the book realistic even though it’s a fantasy one.
While the story is narrated by Miranda, God of Knowledge, to Jaxx (Aje’s grandson) and his fiancé Olivia, it is mainly in the third person, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the different life stories of the characters. What’s more? The author uses short sentences and paragraphs, keeping everything light and easy to read.
Beyond that, the author uses a lot of descriptive languages that helps readers understand even the most complex of concepts. This is particularly important because the book goes deep into the intricacies of how the various creatures of the world were made. It’s also great that the book includes snippets of wisdom at the beginning of each chapter, allegedly from the God of Wisdom. Each snippet furnishes us with new information that is integral to our understanding of the chapter. Moreover, the book is well-edited and formatted – there are no grammatical errors.
God of Nothing is a riveting epic fantasy that is hard to put down. This coming-of-age novel will appeal to readers looking for something different with a dark edge and LGBTQ themes. Filled with conflict and well-developed plot fantasy readers will not be disappointed.

Bellocaro
Posted by Literary_Titan

Skye Moon has been trapped on a magical island in the Atlantic ocean called Sceadu. She was transported to the island one day against her will with no clue why or how to leave. Those that arrive on the island like this are called spellbound. They are trapped in this magical paranormal academy till the island decides they can leave.
When Skye does not return the popular boy Chad’s affections, she is shunned by most of the academy. This common scenario plays out all the time in schools with teenagers. The popular kid gets all their friends to ignore someone to get what they want. Teens will relate to many of the characters in this imaginative story.
Skye finds solace in her dreams of her dark-eyed boy, the one she calls Bellocaro. But in one such dream, Ballocaro says that he has put her in danger, and the vampire Nymir will track her down and kill her. To add to her precarious situation, the school’s headmistress has asked her to show around the new students, a family known as the Blues. Thatcher, Rane, Wes, and Alton have taken on the role of personal bodyguards to Skye whether she wants them to or not.
Author P.S. Meraux has written a new young adult vampire and werewolf story. This is not a retelling of other vampire stories, rather a fresh new take to draw in the next generation of paranormal readers. Bellocaro is an enchanting blend of a love story, action, and drama. The mystery of learning who the Blues are keeps Skye on her toes; while everyone else is mesmerized by their beauty, Skye picks up on the details that reveal their true paranormal identities.
The author has done a fantastic job building out the world of Sceadu and capturing the teenagers’ personalities that reside there. I could envision the groups all hanging out, and the characters, even non-human, teenagers are the same in this world, with their quirks and attitudes. The mystery of the brown-eyed boy with a mark on his hand will keep coming back to readers. Also, the drama of if the Blues family will capture Nymire will keep readers on edge.
Bellocaro is the first novel in the series and a fantastic start to this unpredictable storyline. With each mystery uncovered, new questions arise. Readers will be drawn into the fantasy world that seems too real at times and stay for the unforgettable paranormal characters whose personalities will keep them turning the pages to see what happens.
