My Life My Story My Journey & A Tall Tale
Posted by Literary Titan
RBK’s My Life, My Story, My Journey & A Tall Tale is an autobiography that details how a chance encounter – meeting his self-professed twin flame – forever altered the trajectory of his life and his state of consciousness.
RBK begins his story in logical, sequential fashion. He provides readers with essential background information – his family dynamic, his youth years, and his professional career. One, it gives us an idea of who RBK is as an individual. Two, it normalizes RBK as someone who could easily be our neighbor (as opposed to someone who we can’t relate to).
There is something to be said about how a single moment has the path to set us on the journey of a lifetime. Although RBK’s autobiography is unique to him, the elements of seeing with one’s third eye, meeting a twin flame, and being awakened to a heightened state of spirituality have resonated with humanity for centuries. Perhaps we are not meant to know everything that takes place in the world around us – but as RBK attests, we cannot unsee our Dark Night of the Soul.
While the content was interesting, especially from such a personal perspective, there were several proofreading and punctuation errors that necessitate a second round of editing to ensure a refined read. Otherwise, My Life, My Story, My Journey & A Tall Tale takes readers on a thought-provoking spiritual journey that will stay with you long after you’ve closed the book.

Everything Under the Sun
Posted by Literary Titan
In his book Everything Under the Sun, Bruce Rowe invites the reader into his life as a family physician. A good chunk of the book is about medicine and everything in between, but the authors uses language so that the reader can easily understand and relate to what Bruce experienced. The medical terms are beautifully explained and the reader is made to understand how some diagnoses are made. I appreciate the author for openly talking about the challenges he faced in his practice. His experiences show that, while getting the doctor title is fancy, there are a lot of ups and downs one has to go through before establishing oneself.
Bruce Rowe is such a natural writer that one gets to fall in love with his writing even before getting to understand his background. The author narrates every stage of his life tenderly, making the reader enjoy every part of his narration. You can feel the passion Bruce Rowe has for his family and profession. Each stage of the author’s life brought various lessons. His personal life, family, days of studying, and practicing medicine are all distinct and bring different obstacles and all the emotions that come with them.
Bruce Rowe’s narration is engaging throughout the book and makes the reader feel like they are in the same room with him. When talking about his losses, the reader could feel the author’s emotions through the text. One not only sympathizes with the author’s experiences but also applauds him for standing high and not letting any failure bring him down.
Everything Under the Sun is a one-of-a-kind biography that feels like someone is inviting you into their life. I appreciated how the book discussed rarely mentioned realities and truths in the medical profession. This is a perfect book for the holiday’s, one that reminds you of the importance of family and warms your heart.

30 CHICAGO CHRISTMASES
Posted by Literary Titan
There is no better way to document life than through diaries or letters. Many families hold to the dedicated tradition of sending out a yearly Christmas letter summarizing the year’s events, challenges, and accomplishments. These letters serve to keep family and friends up-to-date and make them feel more connected to those who live too far away to visit regularly throughout the year. One of the most endearing aspects of holiday letters is the way in which they show the growth and change in families while at the same time documenting little bits of history.
Within 30 Chicago Christmases: A Personal Journey Recounting Thirty Holiday Seasons in the Second City, Michael Shawn McCalley has pieced together one such work–a collection of Christmas letters based on his years in Chicago. From beginning to end, McCalley reveals each and every aspect of his life from 1991 to the present. Readers are treated to a seat at the family dinner table as they read of McCalley’s accomplishments and frustrations for the year. He gives a thorough rundown of his year including wonderful descriptions of life in the Chicago area and its regular events throughout the seasons. Readers who frequent Chicago will find these mentions familiar and comforting, while those not from the area will learn something new with each letter about the cultures represented there and the rich display of arts found in the city.
The idea for this book is a quite unique one indeed. McCalley’s writing style is almost prophetic and reads smoothly and with a cadence not often seen in most autobiographical works. McCalley manages to make some of the most mundane activities read as though they are stanzas in an eloquent poem. It is certainly interesting to see the growth and the progress experienced by the author over the years. Some readers will be able to relate to his accomplishments and advancements. Others will find themselves sympathizing with the challenges he faced over the years with home improvements.
Readers looking for a short, engaging read will find Michael Shawn McCalley’s, 30 Chicago Christmases, just the ticket. Anyone seeking a holiday read that is easy on the emotions will enjoy relating to McCalley’s story.

Hard Work, Desire, and Hope
Posted by Literary Titan

An Incredible Journey is an exceptional biography of your path from a mud hut in Kenya to Cambridge University. Why was this an important book for you to write?
For a long time I was challenged and encouraged by my family, especially my daughters Rose, Rehema and Sagina, friends and whoever heard my story, to write my story. It was important for me to write it, because I felt and believed it would be an inspiration and affirmation that with sheer determination, hard work, desire and hope, much of what you dream and aspire, is possible.
I appreciated the candid nature with which you told your story. What were some ideas that were important for you to share?
My story is a chronicle of my struggles, hardships and determination. Born in rural colonial Kenya, failed my basic exams, ended up in a renowned, world class, prestigious University of Cambridge, UK, knowing where I came from, knowing my ability and seizing opportune moments, as they emerged and whenever they emerged in my life, was significant and worthy sharing with others as an inspiration.
What do you wish was one piece of advice someone would have given you when you were young?
The one piece of advice I would have wished someone gave me, when I was young, would have been, ‘John, you can fail basic exams and succeed later, you can fall and rise up again, just endeavour to do your best, develop problem and challenge solving skills, and all will be well, as life is full of challenges.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your story?
The book depicts my struggles against all odds: poverty, ignorance, and even experiences of racism, all transformed into positive anecdotes. The focus of my story is to motivate the reader to dream, desire, to strive relentlessly, pursue and realise aspired dreams. My story affirms, with desire and determination, much of what you dream and aspire, is possible. Though it is a unique story, its themes of hard work, struggle,, success, are universal and relevant to readers of all ages.

A Story of tragedy, triumph and the strength of one woman’s spirit in the face of adversity.
A haunting memoir of one woman’s survival of childhood abuse and neglect. After All … is an inspiring story of how faith and a grandmother’s unconditional love gave young Maria the strength to survive a loveless home and, incredibly, showed her the path to forgiveness.

The Conman: A Baseball Odyssey
Posted by Literary Titan

The Conman by Mike Murphey is based on a true story of the life of professional baseball player, Keith Comstock. The story follows Conor Nash a professional baseball player. His sole mission in life is to pitch in the major leagues. He has been released from his baseball contracts ten times within his 16 year career. After being forced to retire due to an injury he is not able to recognize the person he has become. He goes on a journey to discover who he is now that he can no longer pitch.
Mike Murphey has done a fantastic job portraying the life of a professional baseball player and the struggles they deal with. You begin to understand Conor and his tenacious attitude towards baseball. Conor has gone through so many challenges from being fired, dismissed, kicked off the team, traded multiple times but he still persevered. The portrayal of Conor’s wife Kate is admirable, she is a strong and loving woman and supported Conor throughout his baseball career. The author seamlessly switched between third person narration to first person. Murphey displays his sophisticated writing skills by smoothly transitioning between a memory and what was going on in the present.
You don’t have to be a fan of baseball to truly appreciate this story. The dialogue is funny and witty and keeps you entertained from beginning to end. Not only does the author discuss the obstacles that Conor went through he also brings forth Conor’s accomplishments. You are taken on an emotional roller coaster right alongside Conor. At times I did get frustrated with some of the decisions Conor made but I was still rooting for him.
The Conman is a witty, complicated and inspiring read that gives the reader hope that no matter what you are going through in life, if you never give up, you will reach your dream.

Sorrow to Shero: Pain, Power, and Peace
Posted by Literary Titan
Sorrow to Shero: Pain, Power, and Peace takes its title from Dr. Jeannita Bussle’s unofficial moniker for her struggles and eventual recovery from her former husband’s undiagnosed mental illness and his subsequently abusive nature. Despite the normalcy of the opening of the book, the backdrop of Bussle’s childhood and her adolescent experiences in Detroit, it’s clear that she’s struggled with exceptional challenges, and lives with the effects of their underlying trauma. The pain in Bussle’s story never tips over into despair or hopelessness, and Sorrow to Shero is a tale that treats serious mental illness and episodes of domestic abuse with vulnerability and honesty. It’s an assured debut, and a memoir that already means a great deal to many people.
Bussle demonstrates real skill in bringing to life her world for the reader; vibrant in details, with her past and present delicately balanced against the backdrop of her faith and love for her children. Survivors of trauma and those that struggle with mental illness will find comfort in Bussle’s words, and how she’s been able to anchor the worst moments and events of her life firmly in her past. Bussle remains firmly in control of the narration of the events of the book – so complete, and so flawless in her perspective of the past, that it’s clear that her story is meant to be one of empowerment for other women who may find themselves in a similar situation. This is Bussle’s true achievement – a book about abuse and recovery, that captures the experience of it, with remarkable nuance and candor, without skipping over the ambiguities and the hardship. At the same time, Sorrow to Shero: Pain, Power, and Peace is also about motherhood and the deep bond between a mother and her children. Bussle describes herself, more than anything else as a proud mother, and this is instrumental in her ability to better her life for both herself and her children. The role of motherhood and the value of close family relationships is movingly explored throughout the book, there’s no doubting the integrity of her experience as a parent. Despite Bussle’s credentials, it should be made clear that her book is not the equivalent of a university professor addressing a packed lecture hall. This makes it both effortlessly readable, and highly personal. It’s a book that abuse survivors are likely to find in some senses recognisable, whereas the casual reader may find themselves mentally filing away ideas and terminology to dig into further at a later point for a greater level of understanding. Sorrow to Shero is a captivating and emotional memoir that explores some the things that break us and make us as people.
