Strengthened During Times of Abundance

J.A. Cox Author Interview

The Beauty of Tribulation is a thought-provoking exploration of the Christian faith, delving into the role of suffering and hardship in spiritual growth and offering insights into biblical teachings. Why was this an important book for you to write?

This book was important for me to write because God laid it upon my heart to bring this book into the world. I was not in a place that it would make sense for him to do such a thing during that time in my life, at least not in a carnal perspective. I questioned if it was him, but he made it very clear to me that it was. I was awakened many times at odd hours and spent many hours writing the things that he put upon my heart. Even to this day, I struggle with accepting that I was the one who wrote the words on its pages. I say that with all humility. I am very thankful to have the opportunity to help other Christians realize that first, God is not the author of their tribulation and second, yes, he does have a powerful purpose for allowing it. The important takeaway is to trust him always and not get so fixated on trying to understand the why. The why is, he has allowed it, and it is not important for us to always know the reason.

Could you share any personal experiences or realizations that significantly influenced your perspective while writing this book?

What significantly influenced my perspective while writing this book was my own tribulations from my very bad decisions at that time. What I mean is, that God helped me to realize that I can and must trust my failures to him as well. Also, he helped me to learn that while I will surely reap the consequences, through repentance he can and will use my failure for his glory. The remedy for our sin will never change; therefore: God is more concerned about our repentance so that he can use our hindsight to help others rather than punish us. God only punishes unrepented sin and must, because he is holy.

What do you hope readers take away from your exploration of Jesus’ suffering and the broader context of God’s plans?

I pray that my readers will realize that suffering is an unavoidable part of the Christian experience. It is also a very necessary part of the experience. The reason is because Jesus has explained that the student is not greater than the master. Because suffering was a necessity for him, it is so for us. However, since Christ continued to have confidence in the Father and never forsook him, he was never alone in that suffering, until he became sin for us. Likewise, as long as we place our confidence in Jesus, we too will never be alone and have strength in all things. Paul understood this and proclaimed, “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4: 12,13. I will end with this point; he could not learn about being strengthened in Christ without experiencing all those things. I will leave it to others to pray and ponder why it is necessary to be strengthened during times of abundance. If you have read The Beauty of Tribulation, you already know the answer.

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?

I have about 3 books I will be working on which are in different phases. As far as faith-based literature, the next book is Flawless. It will likely be an e-book and audiobook due to its small size but will not lack in sating the spiritual appetite. In a nutshell, it has to do with how we properly identify with Christ. Don’t be thrown off by the name. I am not sure when I will complete it at this moment but hopefully, it will be available early next year if not at the end of this year.

The Beauty of Tribulation was written to provide answers based upon scripture to help us understand things such as: The purpose of tribulation in the life of a believer.
Reasons why it is necessary.
How God uses it for our edification and his glory.
How God is not the author of our tribulation.
At the root of it, the greatest purpose is to depict the beauty of our painful, frustrating, and most hopeless moments when we allow God to complete the work he is trying to accomplish through them. As you turn the pages of this book you will be taken on a journey that will delve you deep into the tribulation process and come away with a firm understanding of it, perhaps like never before. Every premise is backed with scripture, focused on what the bible says rather than my own ideas.

J.A. Cox hopes that all who read will walk away with a greater appreciation and devotion toward the Lord in regard to this troublesome subject and inevitable part of our lives.

Connect with God in Real Ways

Karen Brough Author Interview

Take A Step With Him Companion Guidebook takes readers on a transformative journey to discover a path to spiritual renewal and illumination in Christ’s love. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Writing this series was something I cannot take full credit for. Every element of the guidebook was actually a moment when God spoke to me, encouraged me, and lifted me out of my pit season. Every verse, song, journal entry, every question, was given to me as a personal encouragement. And they still encourage me – how could I not share that with others who are feeling dry in their faith, are walking hard roads of life, or just want to connect with God in real ways?

Should readers use this guidebook in conjunction with Take A Step With Him or after finishing previous books?

Great question. Each book can be a stand-alone, or read in conjunction with its companion book. It doesn’t matter where you begin, but if the reader wants to track the health testimonies, the first book, Be Held by Him, is when I was most unwell, and each book set represents levels of healing, hope revelation, and freedom.

The testimony books were always designed to be like a soft pillow of encouragement, tending and ‘nothing required from you,’ kind of reading. The ideal readers for these books are those who are dealing with health/life challenges and diagnosis, are walking hard roads of life and need some hope, or those who want to read some miraculous things that God has done with and for someone who could do nothing.

The guidebook is the activation and applying the things that are shared in the testimony books. Readers have let me know that the guidebooks are wholly unique devotionals that can appeal to anyone on a spiritual journey.

What were some goals you set for yourself as a writer in this book?

Honestly…to finish!

It has been a passion project spanning 12 years living it out, and around 9 years writing it.

I am not much of a goal-setter.

Personally, when I write with God, then the kind of driven, striving space, and goals and strict timelines aren’t conducive to creating with Him. Having said that, I guess a goal I have about the books is that they’d find their way into the hands of those who need it.

I always wanted to give one book away for every three others purchase – that has been a satisfying thing to see who God brings along my path and how the books impact their heart. That is the kind of goal I love.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from Take A Step With Him Companion Guidebook?

God’s motivation is always love, and He wants to connect, be found, and begin/continue a life adventure that you never thought possible, in the BEST possible way!

God’s Overpowering Love

Susie Kinslow Adams Author Interview

The Rebel and Preacher Man is your memoir that offers readers an inspiring glimpse into your life alongside her late husband. Why was this an important book for you to write?

My husband and I prayed about what God would have us tell for three years; it took me two more years to pen it. God’s overpowering love and grace are evident as His love drew us together.

What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?

I left God; He never, ever left me. His Spirit gently tugged at my heart in the worst of times. A person is never too far away from God, or too “bad” to serve Him.

I appreciated the candid nature with which you told your story. What was the hardest thing for you to write about?

My rebel years. I knew in my teens that God had a plan for my life. My early adult years were difficult to express because of the life I had of abuse and rebellion.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from your story?

There is absolutely nothing you can ever do that will weaken God’s love for you; God will use your weaknesses for His glory if you will yield your life–past and present and future to Him. God never wastes anything.

The Rebel and Preacher Man is a true love story of how God drew a preacher in his fifties and an unchurched woman in her thirties together. It is a testimony of God’s love shining through as He reveals Himself afresh in the life of Marcella, Russell’s first wife, as she battles terminal cancer. Again, in the life of Bob, Susie’s first husband, as he invites Jesus into his heart two weeks before his last breath. And, of Russell and Susie’s forty-two-year journey which only God could have orchestrated.

The Rebel and Preacher Man

Susie’s transition from a distant relationship with the church to becoming a preacher’s wife is nothing short of remarkable. The Rebel and Preacher Man, her memoir, offers an inspiring glimpse into her life alongside her late husband, Russell Adams. Susie candidly shares her journey, beginning with her rebellious youth, filled with a thirst for adventure and a demanding sales job, to her unexpected role as a pastor’s wife. This memoir isn’t just an account; it’s an engaging exploration of Susie’s life, touching on her tumultuous first marriage, her romance with Russell, and the various challenges they faced together, including health issues and adapting to retired life.

The Rebel and Preacher Man stands out for its authentic and uplifting narrative. Susie’s resilience and positive outlook, even in the face of adversity, are genuinely inspiring. Her reflections are infused with encouraging words and biblical insights, reflecting the profound impact of her years spent in ministry. One poignant message from the book is, “Dear Reader, whatever situation you are in, no matter who has wronged you or you them, stay in God’s Word,” a sentiment that resonates deeply and offers guidance for personal conflicts. The book’s engaging prose and thoughtful pace make it a delightful read, enriched with biblical references and insights into the life of a preacher’s family. The anecdotes of Russell’s commitment to discussing God even in his retirement add a charming layer to the narrative.

For those interested in stories of faith, commitment, and the intricacies of a godly marriage, The Rebel and Preacher Man is a compelling choice. Susie’s gift for heartfelt communication makes the reader feel part of a larger community, drawing them into a deep and reflective fellowship with the characters. Her story is not just one to read but to experience and reflect upon.

A Stable and Sure Foundation

Weston A. Knudtson Author Interview

A Hypnotizing World: Discovering an Unshakable Hope in a Confusing Culture is a thought-provoking book that explores the questions plaguing humanity and provides answers and hope through a Christian perspective. Why was this an important book for you to write?

This book was important for me to write because I was called to do it. It was an act of obedience to God. I believe God called me to write it because of the times we are living in. People are searching for a stable and sure foundation, something that doesn’t change with the political climate of our time. People are searching for truth. This book points them to the source of truth–God.

How much research did you undertake for this book, and how much time did it take to put it all together?

This was a fifteen year long project. I spent much time studying the Bible and history, theology, apologetics, psychology, philosophy, and many other subjects. When I make statements and provide explanations about different subjects, I want to have a good understanding of the topic before sharing it with others. And I want the facts. Research is not a quick Google search. It takes time to filter through the opinions and get to the facts of the matter. So, research was a huge part of writing this book.

What were some goals you set for yourself as a writer in this book?

I set many goals over the course of fifteen years, but I was humbled by the fact that everything happens in God’s timing. The final and published version of this book is the eighth time I completely rewrote my book. This was from the Lord’s leading. God wasn’t simply wanting me to quickly write a book for the people who would read it; He was working on transforming my heart and mind in the process. With that said, I made goals to finish my manuscript in a year, but this happened several times.

What is one thing that you hope readers take away from A Hypnotizing World?

The main thing I want readers to take away is the importance of asking the hard and big life questions for the purpose of searching for the truth, even if the truth isn’t what you want to hear. Don’t let fear, feelings, or the culture’s social status get in the way of your pursuit of the truth. Don’t settle for opinion or simply follow the majority. Get to the facts. Demand evidence. Be objective and unbiased.
