A Significant Role to Play
Posted by Literary Titan

A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry helps readers discover the opportunities chemical engineers have in the palm oil industry. Why was this an important book for you to write?
Edible oils are big business. Especially palm oil. Palm oil has been widely used in food and non-food industries. More than half the products on sale in supermarkets are made with palm oil—yet many people hardly know anything about this industry. They don’t even know chemical engineers have a significant role to play in this industry. Hence, I am motivated to write a book to provide a series of episodes for readers to discover the opportunities chemical engineers have in the palm oil milling industry. I hope this non-fiction memoir book could bring readers closer to the most enigmatic profession of all time. The book is available at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Kobo and other major retailers.
This book sheds light on an enigmatic profession. What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
I would love the readers to feel that they have been presented at a talk given by an expert who knows his topic. Everyone after reading “A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry” should feel that they came away with insights not only about what made a good chemical engineer easily transferred into the palm oil milling industry but also how widespread palm oil is in everyday life.
You have 15 years of operational experience in the palm oil industry. How has your experience helped you write this book?
When I got involved in the Institution of Chemical Engineers, I often found myself drawing upon my experiences at one of the country’s leading oil palm plantation companies. I learned that many of the experiences and knowledge I gained are lessons from which any chemical engineer could benefit from. Through my speaking engagements, I realize that there was tremendous interest in the society in gaining a better understanding of the inner workings of this profession. That is how my first nonfiction memoir, “A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry” came about in my late thirties. As I wrote this book based upon my expertise and experience, I didn’t have to rely heavily on research or on knowledge that comes from others. My writing flowed more smoothly when I was not struggling to interpret data, interviews, or to make my story realistic. When my book stemmed from my knowledge and experience, I felt more passionate about what I write, which showed in my finished work. As a result, I produced episodes that read well.
What is one thing that surprises most people about palm oil?
Interesting question. While there are many fun facts about palm oil, these are by far my favorite: Palm oil is an incredibly efficient crop, producing more oil per land area than any other vegetable oil crop, and is the most commonly produced vegetable oil in the world. Palm oil has been widely used in food and non-food industries. It can be found in a wide range of products in a typical grocery store, including shampoo, toothpaste, candles, baked goods, lipstick, processed foods, and even as a component of plastic produce bags that helps them to open more easily.

It is a promise that Hong Wai Onn has fulfilled again and again. More people have gained a better understanding of the role of chemical engineers in the palm oil milling industry by listening to his sharing. You do not have to be a chemical engineer or work in this industry to enjoy his memoir. The insights are just as valuable for any discipline of engineering, and for any business, for the sake of inspiration.

What I Tell Myself About Talent
Posted by Literary Titan
What I Tell Myself About Talent is a fun children’s book that places exploration and self actualization center stage. What are you good at? What’s your talent? How can you ever know until you try. This book helps kids make the connection between their current talents and their future jobs, whether it’s an innate talent or something they have to work at. Rather than telling children to be one thing or another, What I Tell Myself About Talent let’s readers know that it’s okay to not know, and exploring the possibilities is part of the fun.
Michael Brown has once again created a book on a topic that I have rarely, if ever, read about in a children’s book. Talent, and how to find it in everyday places with a little exploration, is accomplished in this book with simple rhymes and vibrant illustrations of diverse children doing different activities. This picture book will encourage readers to get out into the world and try things out. It will open their eyes to the idea that they can continue to do the things they like even into adulthood. From doctors to construction workers Michael Brown makes it clear that going out and finding what your good at is part of the fun. The ending of the book has Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs which is a great opportunity for further discussion beyond the book. What I Tell Myself About Talent is a great way to start a conversation about finding talent in everyday activities.

A Catalyst for Change
Posted by Literary Titan

Co-Teaching: The Professional Behind the M.A.S.K. helps educators gain greater insight into each partner’s role within a co-teaching classroom. Why was this an important book for you to write?
There is a growing need for special education students to be placed with their peers in the general education classroom. In doing so, the gap that is faced by the special education students can decrease. This book is important as it serves as a catalyst for change in the collaborative relationship. Co-Teaching: The Professional will help readers M.A.S.K. The inevitable. Learn to MANAGE the stress, ACCEPT co-teaching as a valuable tool, STRENGTHEN your relationships, and create the KEYSTONES that will allow for personal growth.
What do you think is a common misconception educators have about co-teaching?
One misconception is that one of the teachers are not certified. Co-teaching is a classroom with TWO certified teachers that are charged with educating a group of students both special ed and general ed in the same environment. Each teacher adds value to the classroom. The general education teacher is considered the content/curriculum expert. The special education teacher is the strategist, they add strategy and technique to the content to make it accessible to all learning level. The two certified teachers work hand in hand to deliver the curriculum in a way that allows for learners to thrive.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from your book?
One thing that I’d like readers to take away from Co-Teaching: The Professional is the need to effectively communicate with colleagues. Classrooms are not the only areas that collaboration is key to engagement and success. In every profession, the expectation is that there is a level of teamwork that increases productivity and efficiency. We should abolish the fixed mindset and embrace growth to meet the needs of the current generation. We must work together to discover the best approach for personal growth as well as company development.
What is your experience in the education field and how has that helped you write this book?
My experience in the education field has moved from managing front offices, working as a principals secretary to now teaching in the classroom. I have been an advocate for children for more than 20 years. I wrote this book based on my experiences in the coteaching classroom. As an advocate, it is my desire to enhance the coteaching classroom. Co-Teaching: The Professional will help guide the relationship into a collaborative experience that utilizes the talents and abilities of both certified teachers.

How to Transition Logistics In the Middle East – Trailer
Posted by Literary Titan
Having someone transition their logistical system is tough, especially when you are working in another country and its organization. I have acquired a process that guides the organization transform from one logistical system to another. This is based on the culmination of successes of transitioning the Iraqi Army Logistics Doctrine to the new Iraqi Army Logistics Doctrine and the Afghanistan National Defense Security Forces (ANDSF) logistics manual system to the logistics automation system.

The Not-So-Haunted House
Posted by Literary Titan
The Not-So-Haunted House is a charming children’s book that tells the story of a farmer who thinks his house is haunted. He sleeps in the barn to avoid all the spookiness going on in his house until one day his friend comes over and shows him that the scary things in his home were really just normal sounds a house makes.
Colonel Carney does a fantastic job of simplifying the fear that children have of the unknown and presenting it to them in a way that is easy to understand. The story is told through simple lyrical rhymes that are effective in capturing the attention of young readers. I loved the bright illustrations on every page which always had something on the page for children to point at and engage with the story. This book will help parents and teachers have a conversation about fear. It shows how many of the things we are scared of have explanations as long as we are brave enough to look for them. I found many of the farmers expressions to be laugh-out-loud funny and, although it’s a ‘haunted’ house, there’s really nothing to fear here except a fantastic book.

Water at the Top of the World: A Story of Legends and Learning
Posted by Literary Titan
A charmingly illustrated children’s book about inclusion and peace-seeking in a world of colliding mythology and science. Enjoyed by religious and non-religious parents and children alike, this book is a great point of entry for discussions on diversity of thought and commonality of human experience.

The Bigger Picture of Health
Posted by Literary Titan

Healthy Dividends helps readers increase productivity and live a longer healthier life. Why was this an important book for you to write?
I have done a lot of speaking at employee wellness seminars, senior centers, and conferences, and I have found that people still wanted more when our time was up. I look at my book as a way to get more in-depth information than the time allowed for a seminar. I also believe that a healthy way of living can extend your life and make you think and feel better, so I wanted to share all of this in one complete guide that can be used as a reference, so you can get a lot of use out of it.
You are a registered dietitian and a certified wellness coach and fitness instructor. How has your experience helped you write this book?
I feel so strongly that wellness is more than exercise and nutrition, but those are important pieces. Becoming a coach has taught me to look at the bigger picture of health and wellness. One of the fundamental things I ask of clients is to schedule fun experiences into their calendar. If you do the things that make you happier, it puts you in a better mindset to do the other things that are good for your health. I call these experiences energizers, and they might be reading a book, spending time with family, taking pictures of nature…it’s different for everyone, but figuring out what they are, discovering new ones, and planning them in your schedule can be very inspiring. The book is a culmination of all my knowledge and education becoming and practicing as a dietitian, fitness instructor, and coach. It includes so many insights and tips I have gathered from working with wonderful clients and groups who have shared their success stories with me.
I appreciated all of the healthy tips provided throughout the book. What do you find is a common misconception people have about health and dieting?
I think people see it as a chore rather than as self-care. When they change their perspective, healthy habits become more fun and achievable. Having the right mindset is key. I have seen this over and over again with clients who start to care for themselves more, rather than beat themselves up.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
I hope that readers take exactly that away…that is, hope. I give so many ideas, tips and stories about ways to improve their health, that my ultimate goals is to show people that there are simple things they can do to feel better and live longer, and to give them the hope and inspiration to try some of those things.
