Life Is Light And Shade
Posted by Literary Titan

These Days is a collection of short stories depicting contemporary issues and how average people are facing them. What inspired you to write these stories?
It was really the relentless daily cycle of news which, for many of us I think, can have a dehumanising effect on the very subject it’s trying to communicate. It’s a barrage. I wanted to illustrate some of the themes with personal stories, to view the social issues through the perspective of people in the eye of the storm.
Whilst many of these issues are global – climate change, the impact of AI, conspiracy theories, corporate power – their impact varies greatly of course according to where and how people live so the stories have a range of settings.
Many of the pieces have a common thread – the need for characters to make big decisions for themselves and their families. It’s really where the political meets the personal and the universal conflicts that drive this.
Your characters are all interesting and relatable. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
I wanted them to be people that readers would recognise – maybe in themselves or their friends but also people they are aware of even if only from a distance. Just as important, I wanted the characters’ conflicts to resonate – the questions facing the characters may well be far from those faced by the reader in their real lives but I wanted the stories to at least allow the reader a glimpse.
For this reason, there are situations that may be quite close to home (the threat of redundancy, the worry of illness) and others that – for most of us – are hopefully quite distant (homelessness, exploitation.)
I also wanted the characters to be rounded so the comedic stories and uplifting perspectives are as important as the themes that often feel bleak to most of us. Life is light and shade.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
Climate change was one that recurs in a number of stories – unsurprisingly since it impacts all of us and we probably all often have a similarly helpless view of its scale. The impact of 24/7 social media is another that permeates several stories as it’s a constant in the way that ideas are shared and take root. The pandemic is of course always in the background (sometimes the foreground) too.
All of these are examples of themes for the 2020s. The first two of course predate it too but they seem to have taken centre stage in all that’s impacting our day to day lives right now.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
I have some more short stories in development as well as some non-fiction projects which will likely be out there in the second half of 2022.

In the middle of it all, we keep on keeping on. These are stories of lives lived today. There is love and laughter, big decisions, hope and reflection on what matters most.

A Very Heartbreaking Case
Posted by Literary Titan

I Am Beast sheds light on the important topic of stalking and specifically on the case of Jennifer Kesse. Why was this an important book for you to write?
I wanted to write a book of this sort because truthfully I been there, I know what’s it like to stalk someone and become obsessed with them. And let me personally say that the inner feeling, thinking and dark thoughts that go through once mind is not pretty at all. My goal in writing this book was not just to bring into light the ugly reality face of stalking and how far it can or will go, but also to reach out to those who take these matters lightly instead of seriously. Being from and residing in Orlando Florida, Jennifer Kesse abduction story really hit home. Something about her abduction case is mysterious, and how it appears to have taken place is just off. And after so much extended researching, I strongly felt that Jennifer Kesse abductor was obsessed with her in some way possible. I truthfully believe without any sort of doubts that she was being carefully watched, and that her abduction was premeditated. I mean let’s be honest here, the abduction itself was just too perfect. Something evil was surely lurking around her that perhaps she herself may have felt uneasy about but at the same time she was oblivious of it within her own surroundings. Her complete disappearance for fifteen years up to date is proof enough that her abductor no doubt figured out ahead of time that she was not to ever be found by anyone. It is indeed a very heartbreaking case, while a mystery that by the looks of it, may never be solved nor discovered.
What is a common misconception you feel people have about stalkers?
Unfortunately people don’t take stalking nor obsessions serious and they make the mistake of seeing it as something that will eventually subside on its own. The majority of stalking victims are usually stalked by someone they already know. And what’s worse is that many fail to see that stalking is not romantic nor sexy, it is actually the complete opposite of it.
We should never be encouraged to interpret someone’s repeated attentions as romantic or desirable. Repeated unwanted attentions are not flattering or positive. Attitudes like these are reinforced by popular culture, which often portrays unhealthy behaviors as romantic and/or sexy. While we have become somewhat more sensitive to portrayals of domestic abuse and rape, stalking still seems to lack critical attention as far as the entertainment industry is concerned which is unfortunate. People should never underestimate a stalker. We need to see stalking for what it really is which is a serious crime that happens to too many people, too much of the time, yet is too often minimized by our present culture at large. We know that it takes a community to say no to abuse and violence. It is time that we as a community also raise our voices and say no to stalking, too.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is being stalked?
Stalking is frequently a precursor to much more serious, sometimes leading to lethal acts. So my best advice is to never accept any gifts from your stalker, that would actually be the worse thing you can do. Never accept or answer any calls from that person, avoid things such as unsolicited or unwanted letters, even emails. Always look back, front, side to side to make sure your not being followed. Stay within a public place visible to others in view. Always inform close family members, close friends as work colleagues, even neighbors of what is taking place and above all, report the person stalking you to the legal proper authorities. Keep a record of everything, even the simplest of details. Never confront your stalker head on, avoid at all cost as your life could be in serious danger.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
Hopefully gain some knowledge and recognition on the topic of both stalking and obsession. All stories written in book are factual, each one took place. It is of the upmost importance that anyone suspected of being stalked should get updated with their current states laws on stalking. Don’t let someone’s pretty face, or charm ways fool you. Take it from someone whose been there, stalkers are no game, no joke, their thinking is without any reach, any reasoning. Their main goal is you and only you, as you have become someone they believe they can’t live without. Never take stalking nor obsession lightly, behind their face and smile lives a beast waiting to explode. Don’t ever put your life at risk over ignorance on issues like these. Stalkers are real, they exist.

It Always Felt Incomplete
Posted by Literary Titan

Dio in the Dark finds the Gods of Greek myth living among mortals, and when Zeus goes missing in Toronto it’s up to his son to find him. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
Honestly, this story began as practice. I wrote a short story several years ago to experiment where I felt the Greek gods would fit into today’s world. It always felt incomplete to me, and I revisited it some years later, and it turned into this novella.
Dio is an intriguing and well developed character. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
Thank you! Dio was a challenging character for me to write for the same reasons that he experiences challenges in his life. How can one forgive their father for murdering their mother? How do you respect yourself when the only thing people like about you is the same thing everyone mocks? His story is very much about learning to accept himself as a god, while tuning into a sense of familial responsibility rooted somewhere deep within.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
Acceptance of oneself, familial responsibility, and the long-lasting effects of trauma.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
I’m working on the sequel to Dio in the Dark! It doesn’t have a title yet…or a release date, though I’m hoping it will be out by late-2022 or early-2023.
My next release is a children’s picture book called “City Kitties”. It’s scheduled to release on December 3rd, 2021.

When Zeus – King of the Gods – goes missing in modern-day Toronto, it is up to his estranged son, Dio, to find him.
And with rumours of The Darkness coming, Dio will have to race to find his father, and uncover the truth before it’s too late!

An Otherworldly Menace
Posted by Literary Titan

Chindi follows a military officer and tribal chief as they join forces to combat an ancient Native American demon. What was the inspiration for the setup to your story?
My inspiration for the setting for the novel grew from the area I grew up, as well from personal study of the main character, George Crook. He was a famous Indian fighter in the second half of the 19th century, but he was also the greatest advocate for the Native Americans of that time. The fort that bears his name is still a historical site near Fall River, in Northern California.
Specific to that time, I love the time period, because it enables a reader to harken back to when civilization as we know it was tenuous and fluid, with an unsettling and quick-changing backdrop for both cultures that are in the book. The chance to examine human conflict is heightened with the interaction of an otherworldly menace.
Your characters are interesting and well developed. What were some driving ideals behind your character’s development?
I wanted to insert a facsimile of the real Crook into a supernatural and evil occasion of history. His real-life persona was also obsessed with honor, but it’s great to explore how we as humans would deal with being honorable when your world is collapsing around you.
For his supporting cast of soldiers and his civilian scout, I plucked those men from actual rosters on the frontier of that time. I bet those distant people would be surprised to see where they’ve ended up 160 years later.
For the Natives he interacts with, I wanted to create characters that strongly represent the chaotic and often unfair times that Indians had to contend with. Hopefully, I’ve managed to make human stories out of the trauma to their people.
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
The most important theme to me is acquiescence to violating your personal values to make your way in the world—from both sides of the conflict. What could or should one do in the service of a higher goal? What price to pay for victory is too high?
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
My next novel, The Huntsman of Corvinus, comes out on December 15, 2021, and it will be available on Amazon in printed and audio form.
It is a contemporary story set in Budapest, where an American family is hunted by a supernatural killer. It should be a fascinating read, as it involves an ancient curse and normal people that must deal with a terrifying predator.
It’s full of excitement and violence, but also a twist and ending that is satisfying. I hope readers will like it.

Countless Strange and Humorous Situations
Posted by Literary Titan

Memoir of a Nerd shares your personal stories growing up in the ’50s and the hilarious situations you got into. Why was this an important book for you to write?
My children and friends are used to me telling stories about the countless strange and humorous situations I found myself in, and they encouraged me to “write them down.” I feel fortunate to have had a very full and satisfying life and felt compelled to share my story with others.
There were a lot of humorous situations in the book. What is a moment in the book that makes you laugh every time you think about it?
My favorite story is the chapter titled “A McDonald’s Bag of Cash.” I cashed a check for over $18,000, and the only thing the teller had to put it in was a used McDonald’s bag. My second favorite is the chapter “Déjà vu,” about a prank we played on a fellow missionary.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
Life is better when you enjoy what you are doing. Looking back on my life, I realize that my enjoyment was more of a state of mind than the circumstances or situation.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
I hope that readers will enjoy reading about my escapades enough to brighten their day.

In these tense times of uncertainty and division, this remarkable book is just what the doctor ordered! The book is filled with hilarious and humorously told stories.
A self-described nerd, the author recounts his experiences growing up in the ’50s and the endless predicaments he has found himself in throughout his life. From spending formative years as a missionary in Japan to learning life lessons in Las Vegas, Mancini’s antics seem never-ending. His days looking for love, as he says in all the wrong places, are very funny.
You will surely laugh at the hilarious and often absurd events in this very personal memoir! The author writes with wit, optimism, and humor. This book is a rare gift of humor that will give anyone a good laugh. Recommended to anyone who needs a break from these crazy times.
Read Memoir of a Nerd and find out why the author admits that if there were an award for “Worst Chapter Title,” the last chapter of his book would likely win it!

American’s Misconceptions
Posted by Literary Titan

White Lies Matter: Decoding American Deceptionalism explores issues facing America and provides thought-provoking commentary using art. What inspired you to write this book?
I have previously stated that, “Years ago, noted art critic Robert Hughes lamented the fact that America had never had a Goya. That notion apparently remained in my subconscious because by 2013, I realized that my art was focused more and more on revealing the lies and misconceptions that were abundant in American history.
In addition to that motivation, my education includes minors in mathematics, foreign language and art history. And, my professional background goes well beyond teaching classes in art and art history. I have also taught in the University of Florida College of Engineering, created and taught in the Master of Business Administration degree program in UF’s College of Business Administration, and taught Art Law at UF for fifteen years along with Distinguished Service Professor of Law, E. L. Roy Hunt. And, for more than ten years, I worked with Professor of Medicine, Dr. James Cerda studying and writing about the health hazards affecting actors, artists, dancers, and musicians. I was also made quite aware of all of the issues beyond the arts that face our society through my founding of the nation’s first arts policy center, the multidisciplinary UF Center for the Arts and Public Policy and its many subsequent diverse programs.”
What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?
The book primarily deals with American’s misconceptions of their country’s history––especially in the areas of politics, law, and journalism.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
Far too many people today, and Americans in particular, have no real sense of history––theirs or their country’s. I hope that the reader of this book will finally begin to rethink what he or she really knows about the United States. This issue has become far more important in the 2020s than, perhaps, ever before. Both the text and the plates provide a new and different way of approaching this objective.
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
I began working on White Lies Matter Two: Myth America in April 2021. I hope that it will not take eight years to complete as the first book did, and I am enough of an optimist at almost eighty-two years of age to think that I can complete it by December 2022.

Redemption Versus Revenge
Posted by Literary Titan

Redemption 2 finds Mike Parsons facing a vengeful person who has crafted and intricate plot to exact revenge. What inspired the riveting setup to your story?
I always wanted the story to be a trilogy. Making the story into three parts was a challenge but what inspired me was the complicated relationship between Mike Parsons and his antagonist, Allison Branch. They both have psychological issues, which really makes it interesting. It reveals how each chooses to resolve their issues. Allison uses revenge and violence, Mike uses logic and dreamlike experiences to seek redemption. So, it was more like redemption versus revenge in a three part series.
This is book two in the Mike Parsons trilogy. What were some ideas you wanted to explore in this book that were different from book one?
I wanted to delve into the cartel’s relationship with Branch and her low level dealers as well as the high level members of the cartel and how they control the others. I wanted for Mike in book 2 to develop more as a person and start to get better, not totally of course, but to edge closer to his recovery as a human being. I also wanted to explore Andy Marx as a detective trying to struggle with the idea of wanting to retire or to keep going. It is something that I really get into in book 3 of the trilogy. I was also hoping to explore the world of of low level dealers and how they are caught with the idea of staying in or getting out of the drug business. The characters Jake and Carrianne are very conflicted with that issue.
What scene in the book did you have the most fun writing?
The first one I really enjoyed was the dance scene when Mike and Joanna were out to dinner. Allison being there in disguise to view them as she did was spooky, yet realistic in the way damaged minds can see things that others don’t. Having visions, per se. The second scene I liked was the big man, Andres Montoya taking care of business outside of the hotel. I wanted to make that scene very spine-tingling, raising the hair on the neck of the reader. I think I did that.
What can readers expect in the final book in the Mike Parson trilogy?
This book is the final chase and hunt for Allison Branch, or for that matter her hunt for Mike and Andy! It is a cat and mouse game that goes back and forth like a ping pong match. Marx will be at his most skillful, Mike at his most self-aware, and Allison Branch at her deadliest. This was a great mix for book three, and my innermost description of all the characters came to life. I think the reader will enjoy the fast pace of the action.

With a new face and identity, she could be anyone, anywhere, even your neighbor next door.
The reader will be gasping at the lengths that Allison will go against Mike Parsons and his friends.
