What I liked most about this book was how it distills issues down into easily understood pieces of information. While it could be easy to spend a whole page or two explaining why things occurred, Jill Grimes is able to sum up issues in a small paragraph followed by bulleted points. The accompanying illustrations are simple, cute, and effective.
I know this book is aimed at college kids, but I really think that this book is a great medical reference guide for everyone. Again, you could go to the internet, but then you have to dig through ads, comments from non-professionals, and misleading information to find what you need. If you are a parent with a child about to depart for college, give yourself peace of mind by gifting this book to them. I found it immensely helpful.

Lefty Saves the Day
Lefty Saves the Day is an inspiring children’s picture book that teaches children to believe in them-self while also learning about baseball. School comes with all sorts of challenges, even more for those that are left handed. When her teacher tells the class they’re going to be playing baseball Gracie starts to get nervous because she doesn’t know a lot about baseball. This sets off a series of events that will leave readers better educated on the sport of baseball, how the game is played, and the importance of participation and trying even when you think you can’t win.
Dr. Kris Condi is able to deliver some very important life lessons through effective story telling and simple language. Gracie faces challenges that many kids can relate to, but with a unique twist of being left handed. If your child is left handed, timid or nervous about something then this would be a great book to open up a conversation about the subject. The art that accompanies just about every other page are hand drawn and charming. With some challenging words sprinkled throughout the book I think this would be suitable for new readers that are aided by their parents. Lefty Saves the Day is a delightful story with a focus on challenges left handed kids face but remains relatable to all.

Fathering the Fatherless by Todd Johnson is an enlightening book that explores the issue of fatherlessness. This touching book describes the issue very well and then goes on to explaining some possible solutions. A home without a father is traumatic for children and can lead to all kinds of societal and personal issues.
Todd Johnson does an exceptional job at relaying the statistics involved with fatherless homes and it really drives home the point that a father in a family and home is important for a child’s development.
Readers also get a bit of a memoir tucked into this informative book. Todd Johnson shares personal stories that are heartening and relatable. Readers get to build a connection to the author and this makes his message resonate so much more.
Faith and God are strong themes throughout this enriching book. Todd explains how these work together. The conclusion of the book includes testimonies from men who have stepped up to be fathers that I found to be stirring and inspiring.
Fathering the Fatherless by Todd Johnson is great for anyone looking to support a fatherless family, anyone looking to go into social work, or anyone that wants more information on the impact a fatherless home has.

The Not-So-Haunted House is a story about a farmer who has allowed his imagination to run wild. He believes his house is haunted and has moved out of it and into his barn. His friend comes to visit and to help him understand his fears. It is a delightful picture book and has all the ingredients one looks for in a children’s story. It’s a tale told in rhyme that can help parents to calm their kids’ fears of things that go bump in the night.

Where Are We encourages children to use their imagination as a doorway to endless possibilities. What role does imagination play in the education system?
Unfortunately at about age 3 imagination is stifled accidentally by parents and teachers and replaced with discipline and suggestions of; “don’t do that, you can’t do that” because “it” is not part of the classroom curriculum, or home discipline parameters, therefore imagination and creativity are suppressed, unknowingly by the adults in the room. Books, teacher’s and forward thinking adults can revitalize the child’s imagination by complimenting the child’s ability to think outside the box, letting them know they have the “gift” of imagination.
Do you find that the current generation of children have an active imagination?
YES! After traveling the world to over 50 countries, 50 US states and many foreign provinces and states, I can assure that every child is born with the gift of an active imagination! Rich or poor nations all produce children, that when encouraged, bring forth a wealth of inventions, formulas, ideas and processes that continue to reshape and bless our present world, worldwide. This observance encompasses several generations up to 14 lustrums.
There is a helpful vocabulary list at the end of the book. Was this intentional or did you find you had a lot of big words when writing the book?
The glossary at the end of this book was added after my straight “A”, voracious reading granddaughter in 6th grade called to ask what a word meant in my new book. After a brief conversation she pointed out several other words that she knew, but her classmates did not. A glossary called, “Words to Use by Dr. Qooz” will be a trademark in every Dr. Qooz’ books. If the child understands the definition, they will incorporate the “new word” into their vernacular regardless of their age. Children are not ever too young to learn new words.
This is book three in the Fargone series. What can readers expect in book four?
Fargone is a journey that almost every child will trod to adulthood. The fourth Fargone Series Book, Chasing Scaredy Away, highlights, Child Fear. This very real state of mind or condition is addressed by discount, jest, shock or truth in hopes of the child achieving a state in which they will deal with the fear on their own. Dr. Qooz addresses child fear in a positive, truthful way without reinforcing fantasy creatures such as ghosts and monsters. The inherent fears of darkness, thunderstorms, creatures under the bed or in the closet are all fears that strike most children. These issues are revealed in a way that the child can more quickly deal with the fear crisis and get on to a less fearful event. Solutions are referenced in the story and on the back cover.

From Tree to Twelve is a counting book that follows a boy and his animal friend as they count from one to twelve on a fun road trip adventure. What decisions went into the scenes for each number?
Each scene was constructed to be a learning experience partially from the knowledge the child has at reading with the intent to get the child to associate the image with the number.
My favorite scene is the bed time scene of the bedroom because of the cute toys. Do you have a favorite scene from the book?
My favorite scene is making mud pies with fingers, toes and the hose as this was a fun time of my youth.
This is book one in your Nick and Millie series. What plans do you have for this series in the future?
The next Dr. Qooz book will be a companion book to this Counting book. The book will be an ABC’s book with underlying references to preservation of the world’s ecology, with Nick and Millie and will be complete this Fall.

After Butterball is left home alone when her owner goes shopping she digs under the fence and goes exploring. Butterball then sees an interesting hole and looks inside where she gets stuck. This is when the cute little bunny named Binky helps set her free. After Binky helps her get free, Butterball continues on and meets JillaRoo, a kangaroo. Later, Butterball ends up at the circus and realizes she doesn’t know the way home. Will someone be able to help her find her way home?
Butterball Gets Lost is able to capture the feel of adventure and exploration in a short picture book. The artwork was beautiful, with a soft color pallete and simple art, it easily captures your attention and inspires the imagination. I liked the illustrations, especially the colorful lizards and other animals that Butterball meets along the way. These creatures were all emotive and usually happy. This book teaches young readers about animals and counting while entertaining children with a fun story. The questions at the end of the story help children practice counting and assess comprehension. I appreciated the Fun Facts at the end of the book which provides more information about owls, although this section might require a slightly more advanced reading level than the story.
Butterball Gets Lost is the second book in the Butterball the Poodle series. This is a fantastic continuation in Jualia Seaborn’s children’s literature series. Beginning readers will be entertained and educated all in one book.
