Ships, Sleighs and Christmas Lights
Posted by Literary_Titan

This stunning picture book captures the spirit of Christmas even if told from a perspective most have never heard of. Based off of the biblical story of Saint Nicholaos, the author intertwines how other cultures have added their twist to the story to lead it to the familiar story of a red suit and hat with reindeer.
Young Nikolaos was raised in Patara, a shipping town where he was taught to pray and about the life of Jesus and God. Inspired by the stories of Jesus, Nikolaos traveled to Jerusalem to visit all the places he learned of. He embodied the spirit of Jesus by giving all he could to those less fortunate than himself. When he was returning home his ship ran into a bad storm and he prayed that they would return to land safely. His faith and kindness are examples of where the spirit of the modern Saint Nick comes from. Saint Nikolaos was known for leaving gifts outside children’s windows, or just handing out things that they needed as he could. The tradition of gift-giving was started as a means to show kindness and help each other.
This picture book will entertain young readers and give them a historical perspective without dampening the excitement of the holiday season. This thought-provoking children’s book allows children to see that different cultures believe different versions of the same story. Captivating illustrations accompany the narrative and make for an engaging experience.
Ships, Sleighs and Christmas Lights: The Origins of Saint Nicholas is a delightful picture book that religious educators and families can all enjoy around the holiday season. It focuses on the meaning of Christmas and not the commercialization of the day. The historical fiction in this children’s book is a great conversation starter as well for what life was like in the fourth century.

When Facing Life’s Challenges
Posted by Literary Titan

Tarnished Crowns a Memoir details your personal struggles and your transformative journey towards God. Why was this an important book for you to write?
What God did and showed me in my life was not just for my growth but also for sharing with others.
God’s ways are not our ways, and many get lost in their faith journey when God changes the road map. I want to help others understand how to better cooperate with the process of salvation. If we learn to look inside ourselves and ask God, “What do you want to teach me?” We will often realize how he uses situations/challenges to build character and faith. Sometimes we get so fixated on the problem we can’t see past it to the higher ways of God.
That’s why I wrote this memoir to show what growth and Transformation look like in real-time. It’s not always pretty as we face our fears, doubts, and insecurities, but we have an advocate in those times we can turn to, and he will strengthen our trust and faith in him.
I hope it helps others learn how to stay the course, see beyond the moment, and become more connected to God when facing life’s challenges.
I appreciated the candid nature with which you told your story. What was the hardest thing for you to write about?
To understand some of the difficulties I faced in trusting God as a born-again believer, I felt I had to let readers know about my life amid the glamour and self-indulgence of my past life. I experienced what the world had to offer and how it seduced me into the “desert of spiritual poverty.” Without a purpose beyond “wealth, success, power, and self-gratification,” there is a void inside.
It was difficult recounting those days where I was lost, abused, and confused. I had no idea how to overcome the damage I had done to myself. I didn’t think God could help because “my issues were emotional, not spiritual” – until I met Jesus.
What is one piece of advice someone gave you that changed your life?
The most significant life-changing moment was wrestling with becoming the director of a crisis house in Hollywood. It meant leaving my security and comfort to move into a house serving at-risk youth, prostitutes, and other hurting humanity. I went to my pastor for advice, and he lovingly looked at me and said, “Pick up your cross and follow Jesus.” Not what I wanted to hear, BUT that started my journey to follow Jesus, and it has been the most incredible adventure of my life.
What do you hope is one-thing readers take away from your story?
I hope it will help them question God’s purpose for their lives. I want them to hunger for a more intimate relationship with him.
The church is the starting place, but the adventure with Jesus begins with following him wherever he leads. “Come follow me,” Jesus said. I hope the reader will realize that God is not afraid of our emotions – he understands what we are going through. As we risk being honest with God, we find he is reasonable, merciful, and full of compassion. That’s where we discover our purpose and the freedom to be authentic—in the context of his unconditional love for us. The more honest and open with God, the deeper our love for him becomes.
I hope readers will be encouraged by my story and risk asking God to show them where their adventure begins.

Tarnished Crowns a Memoir
Posted by Literary Titan

Tarnished Crowns is a memoir by Pamela Ann Rice. She is a former Hollywood actress whose experiences with personal and business relationships in showbiz, predisposed her to torment and suffering. Pam’s friend reintroduced her to God as a refuge. She dedicates her life to Christ and as she grows in spirit, she takes up more evangelistic roles. She constantly exhibits bravery and clarity of mind. Her faith is often tested and just as frequently, God redeems her. She also rehabilitated patients using Christian therapy to heal women who suffered different forms of abuse. In prayer she finds a safe haven.
The memoir Tarnished Crowns, by Pamela Ann Rice is a very immersive read. I like how the author involves her audience on a first-hand experience of her journey to salvation. She is honest about her love for glamour and how much she misses the limelight. On the other hand, she was negatively affected by the fame and its accompanying relationships. The way she talks about the entanglements feeling abusive and empty, coupled with her feelings of over-dependence aids readers to understand why she opted for The Cross as her refuge. This memoir is a major help to anyone who seeks to stay grounded in God.
The way she managed to portray the character of Jesus through her mission work is impressive. Citing her work with a transvestite woman; “Victoria” who had a hard time integrating at the women’s shelter, she portrays Jesus as unconditional. Her work at rehabilitation center brings to light the present challenge of mental health issues. Christian therapy as solution to most of these tribulations is an adoptable and encouraging approach.
Tarnished Crowns a Memoir, by Pamela Ann Rice is emotional, compassionate, and ideal for the Christian woman and those that work with women. Readers that enjoy transformational life stories will also find this book to be unforgettable.

10 Steps to Help You Get on with Your Life
Posted by Literary Titan

Life is a series of peaks and pits. One day you are down, the next you are up. But then amidst those who leave you and those who love you is life’s interesting journey. Often, when something happens to break us, we have no idea where to start. We want to curl up in a ball and protect ourselves from the world. This book is a step-by-step guide not just for getting through the difficult parts but coming out on the other side stronger and with more wisdom. It is a roadmap to finding God and holding on to God’s grace when you need it most.
Author Mary Dunbar is very realistic about the human condition. She knows that human beings are prone to being angry with God when things start to go bad. She urges the reader to remain steadfast in prayer and frequently consult the word. She is not condescending and is fully understanding on everything life can take you through.
The author also recognizes that prayer may not be enough. She advises on the importance of watching who you relate with. Some people are only meant to be in your life momentarily. Through God’s grace, you can realize that. She also advises readers to do something to accompany the prayers. If you want to get out of the hole, you can pray to get a ladder but you would have to climb out yourself.
The author has created a brief yet insightful and incredibly useful set of lifehacks. Rarely do people mix prayer and proactivity when giving advice. Hers is a full dimensional tutorial on how to overcome the various obstacles that life presents. This inspiring self-help book is written in very simple language that anyone can understand. Her writing is conversational. The author is seeking to help people who often find themselves having trouble moving on from hurt and disappointments.
10 Steps to Help You Get on with Your Life by Mary Dunbar is a motivational and thought-provoking book that is different from the average self-help book. The information is broken up by poems that are entertaining and expressive, providing a well-deserved pause from material that is deeply affective to anyone who reads it. Do not wait for the storm to buy an umbrella. Get your umbrella now and keep it ready for the rainy season. Read this book and pass it along. Share it with someone, let them learn how to overcome too.

Knowing My True Worth
Posted by Literary Titan

Bent Pages shares personal stories from your life that changed and inspired you. Why was this an important book for you to write?
I originally wrote the book as a gift for my daughter. Most of the events in the book were events I had never been able to talk to her about. But I thought it was important for her to know these things. Our history involves our family history. Our present is so affected by our history and how we respond to events in our lives. It took getting some professional help for me to be able to face many of these issues. They seemed like such huge elephants in the room. Yet, I have discovered by sharing these “secrets” that many people have such elephants that have affected their lives. How we view these events makes such a difference in living our lives and our relationships with others. I wanted to give my daughter the gift of knowing me, all of me…especially since I never felt I really knew my own parents. My father left his family and children, never to return when I was only 18 months old. My mother tried to commit suicide more than once. Perhaps if I had known their experiences, I wouldn’t have judged them so harshly. Most of all, I wanted my daughter to know how much I deeply love her. She has been a most precious and wonderful gift to me!
I appreciated the candid nature with which you told your story. What was the hardest thing for you to write about?
Oh my, there were so many. Talking about the loneliness and isolation I felt as a child and how it affected me as an adult was very difficult to express. Reliving the sexual attack and the resulting chronic guilt that came with it was also difficult to relive. But perhaps the most difficult topic was learning to deal with rejection. They say time heals, but it merely masks emotional cuts. The least little action from someone can drudge up all that emotion when you least expect it. Healing comes from facing your fears, accepting the pain, and ultimately forgiving, while knowing my true worth is found in God rather than in other people or things. While writing, I had to once again learn to forgive. Sometimes that is the hardest thing to do, especially if the one you forgiving isn’t necessarily asking for forgiveness.
What were some ideas that were important for you to share in this book?
If there is one point I hope to make, it’s the importance of faith. Living life with God at the helm is an adventure. But it is an adventure we can trust in because of his great love for us. We don’t always understand why things happen in our lives. But we have a choice in how we view them. We can see ourselves as martyrs or victims. Or, we can see ourselves as victors, overcoming adversity with grace, resilience, and joy.
What do you hope is one thing readers take away from your book?
The critical life skills of trust, love, forgiveness, humility, mercy, unselfishness, and grace can still be learned as adults, even if they were not modeled well in our families. Don’t give up hope on that! No matter what age you are, hope can explode with possibilities, despite our circumstances, if we keep our focus on God. It is possible to let go and let God. As I watched my young daughter fall in love with God, the only father she had ever known, I inadvertently learned these critical life skills for myself through her innocent eyes and unconditional love.

From the time I was a child, one of my habits that drove others in my family crazy was to bend the corner of a page down on a book I was reading if it contained information I wanted to remember and look back on. It was easy to tell which books I had read and had been inspired by…there would be many bent corners. This book is a snapshot of the bent corners of pages in my life that have inspired and taught me. They are moments I never want to forget, even if painful. They have made me who I am. And I would not change that for the world!
I have discovered that I can make a difference, one person at a time, beginning with me. I have learned that God is indeed in control, even when life seems chaotic.
I have also learned that I get to choose how I want to view those events that affected my life. I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to be a victor.
Welcome to the adventure!

The Prodigal Father
Posted by Literary Titan

The Prodigal Father by Forrest Hutter is a touching story about family and faith. The novel tells the story of Tom Davis, a man who was a drunk in his youth, and when he wasn’t drinking he would be angry constantly. Everything changed when his wife got pregnant and had their eldest son. Tom became a different man, a loving husband, and a devoted father. Even though they struggled financially they had each other and that’s all they needed to be happy. Everything came crumbling down when he tragically lost his wife. And with her passing, he also lost his faith. The years went on and Tom felt like he was only sinking deeper and deeper with no escape. This impassioned story of heartbreak and redemption tells readers that no one is past the point of saving and we can always find our way back to ourselves and our loved ones.
The author writes effortlessly and readers can feel the powerful emotions conveyed in the story. As we dive into this inspirational Christian fiction story we are more than just readers, we are a part of the book and the characters. Even though the book follows two timelines, the present and the past, the author manages to keep the narrative straightforward while simultaneously creating an ocean of emotions for us to experience with the characters.
As a reader who is interested in character development, I am pleased with Hutter’s approach to writing. He took the time to develop every character so that they feel as real and raw as possible, giving them flaws and weaknesses as well as just good characteristics. We see all aspects of our main character, Tom. At the beginning of the book we see him do extra work on a client’s car and not charge him, even though he had to pay the extra out of his own pocket and that even caused him to get fired. We see his love and grief. We see his flaws, however, my favorite thing, as a reader, about this character is how he is aware of all his flaws, weaknesses, and wrongdoings.
Yet another plus of The Prodigal Father is the length of the chapters. Hutter keeps his chapters concise and quite short. He brings each one to a fitting end that urges the reader on to the next for more. This captivating book is a quick read and difficult to put down.
The way Hutter captures and describes faith is incredible. In a world with so many religions, agnostics, and atheism, he manages to write a spiritually uplifting book fitted for any kind of belief. The Prodigal Father is a thought-provoking Christian story worth reading. This is an emotionally-charged novel that will stick with readers long after they put the book down.

Your Costly Blood Covenant – Book Trailer
Posted by Literary Titan
Countless Christians have endured strong doses of religious tradition disguised as Christianity. They attend church on Sundays and read their Bibles daily, but they still sense a spiritual void. Nothing seems to fill it, and ultimately they wonder, “Is there anything else? Does a relationship with God offer me more than attending services and memorizing Bible verses?”
The answer is yes! Over two thousand years ago, the most precious blood covenant was created between almighty God and the Lord Jesus. Their unbreakable relationship clearly demonstrates God’s supernatural love for all people. It provides the opportunity for the most intimate fellowship possible with the One who sees our salvation as worth the life of His Son. This holy bond perfectly fulfilled one covenant and established a far better one. In this new covenant, God has guaranteed complete salvation with even greater promises for every part of life. Today anyone can surrender a hard, corrupted life in the world for a glorious life in the kingdom of God. All who believe in and receive Jesus as Savior can freely access this beautiful relationship and then discover the abundant riches of a covenant relationship with God.

In the inspiring memoir Bent Pages, author Anne Hope walks us through her earliest memories that shaped her into the person that she is today. Hope just happens to be brave enough to write it all down candidly and share her storied journey with the world. Throughout the book, she examines personal and stirring memories and shares with us why she chose to cherish them, much like the dog-eared pages of her childhood books. In this uplifting and impassioned memoir readers will discover the importance of life, even the importance of events that seem insignificant.
I found Hope’s story to be encouraging and thought-provoking. Her experiences are relatable but unique and are all told in a way that is engaging, and the ability to make everyday life feel refreshing and captivating really speaks to the authors storytelling ability.
The psychological aspect of how certain events shape you for the rest of your life added a new and intriguing perspective that I had never considered before. I highly recommend reading this book if you are looking to gain a positive view of some of life’s most troubling aspects.
The story is very factual and leaves no detail out, from significant events to trivial things, readers will be immersed in a well defined story as little is left to the imagination. If you are a reader who enjoys taking a deep dive into the details of a memoir then this book is certainly for you.
Bent Pages by Anne Hope is a deeply thoughtful and emotionally resonant memoir with a lot of insightful commentary on life and faith that will keep readers inspired and thinking long after they put the book down.
