Shadow Runner
Posted by Literary Titan

Set in the captivating world of Victorian England, K.J. Fieler’s debut novel, Shadow Runner, introduces readers to the steampunk realm inhabited by Ada, a young girl born into wealth yet yearns for adventure. With a fear of ending up confined to a marriage like her mother, Ada’s thirst for excitement is both challenged and fulfilled when she is abducted by the Shadows, a mysterious group that tears her from her comfortable existence.
Thrown into a dark criminal realm, Ada must face incredible challenges and hurdles. It’s a world entirely alien to her, yet she navigates it with a courage that keeps readers engrossed. Fieler has woven a rich narrative, blending elements of fantasy and a coming-of-age story that consistently engages the reader.
Fieler’s prose is well-crafted, and the intrigue begins from the very first page. Ada’s strength as a protagonist sets the tone of the novel, and as readers delve into her years within the Shadows, her unyielding adherence to her morals – even when put to the test – is both impressive and refreshing. The character development is executed to perfection; Ada’s internal conflicts and confusions are artfully revealed to the reader, even as they remain concealed from the protagonist herself. This narrative device adds layers of complexity, making the unfolding dark tale even more compelling.
The writing is simple yet gripping, turning even the most intricate parts of the plot into seamless elements of the story. I feel some of the events toward the conclusion appeared somewhat rushed, but this is clearly the stage-setting for what promises to be an exciting series. Even those unfamiliar with the steampunk genre will find Shadow Runner an absolute page-turner.
What truly sets Shadow Runner apart is K.J. Fieler’s skillful manipulation of language and ability to weave emotionally resonant scenes throughout the plot. This is a thrilling exploration of courage at its lowest and highest points and a story that hints at more down the road. Shadow Runner is a commendable entry into the genre, a tale rich in detail and character that promises to linger long in the reader’s imagination.

XOCOYOTZIN: EL REGRESO DE LA SERPIENTE EMPLUMADA
Posted by Literary Titan

INFINITY: There be Pirates
Posted by Literary Titan

Pirate hunter Sir Matthew Galahad is about to embark on a mission to find and stop the reign of terror being perpetrated by the crew of The Wraith. The Wraith is rumored to be manned by ghosts and led by a female captain whose wickedness is head and shoulders above all others. Matthew sees everything he wants lying just out of reach–a marriage to the esteemed Amelia Gray and a position in the King’s court as a duke. Matthew must find it within himself to complete the task and win the battle ahead–and the war raging within.
There Be Pirates is part of Catalina DuBois’s INFINITY series, which follows a pair of ill-fated lovers across continents and through time. This particular installment features Matthew as a young man who sees his future wavering before him as he takes on a pirate ship under the direction of Sarah Nightingale. Theirs is a history like no other.
This is not the first of DuBois’s INFINITY books I have read. I admire the creativity it requires to place Matthew and Sarah into new and challenging circumstances and settings while keeping their relationship’s integrity and relatability. This particular book is my favorite so far. The glimpse into Matthew and Sarah’s life together before their encounter on The Wraith shows Sarah’s strength and resilience in no uncertain terms. She is a stellar character and is one that can span genres. While the fiery romance and tension between Sarah and Matthew is one definite draw of Dubois’s work, Sarah’s unmatched passion and drive are undeniably appealing.
DuBois is tops when it comes to dialogue. It can be challenging to find a book of the romance genre that doesn’t veer primarily toward the vulgar side. However, DuBois knows precisely how to appeal to her readers and keep them interested in the romance between Sarah and Matthew and the ever-present tension of their strained history. Their exchanges are charged with an energy that makes the reader anxious for their next interaction.
There Be Pirates is a masterful blend of romance, adventure, and drama with the perfect amount of humor thrown in. DuBois has done it again with this Matthew and Sarah saga installment. Romance fans looking for a new author providing a fresh take on historical romance will appreciate Catalina DuBois.

Darkness and Light Intertwined: Book 3 of the Agent Orange Trilogy
Posted by Literary Titan

In 1954, against the haunting backdrop of war-torn Vietnam, Chi Anh Ong faces the heart-wrenching separation from her baby daughter Linh, who is, unbeknownst to her, taken to an orphanage by her father. Abandoned by Linh’s father, a foreign soldier, Chi is cornered by circumstance and grief. Yet, in a fervent pursuit of revenge, she joins the Viet Cong, targeting American soldiers.
As the years pass, Linh begins to lose herself. Her struggle for survival pushes her into the shadows of prostitution. A chance encounter with an American soldier offers her a shimmering ray of hope and the possibility of a new life in the US. But can one ever fully escape the past?
Darkness and Light Intertwined, by Kaylon Bruner Tran, is a poignant historical fiction novel, featuring a cast of characters caught in the brutal jaws of war yet yearning for redemption. The desperation Chi feels in her search for Linh is palpable, while Linh’s own journey illustrates the depths one might go to for survival.
Kaylon Bruner Tran strikes deep emotional chords, rendering a tale of individuals seeking healing from the scars of war. Each character’s internal struggle prompts readers to grapple with the intricate moral implications of their own choices.
Darkness and Light Intertwined underscores the moral conundrums faced by those in conflict zones. Amidst the chaos of the Vietnam War, each character yearns for a glimmer of light–a semblance of normalcy. Darkness and Light Intertwined is more than just a book; it’s an introspective journey, prompting reflections on the gripping emotional trials born out of real-life adversities. Highly recommended for those seeking a deep, thoughtful read.

I Wanted To Honor My Vision
Posted by Literary_Titan

Till I Bleed No More follows the relentless journey of two marooned sailors battling against fate, surviving a formidable pirate hunter showdown, and embarking on an 18th-century adventure filled with retribution, survival, and the vivid essence of piracy. What was the inspiration for the setup of your story?
The inspiration originally came from a young girl, she remembered that I dressed up as a pirate captain for Halloween, and after that, an idea began to form on how I could turn that look into a character. I also remembered a boy that wanted to join my crew on that day, and so I created a companion for this character and gradually, it evolved from there. Based on the look of my pirate at the time, I wanted to create a more aggressive set up for my story, and I wanted to focus on a younger and less experienced pirate; instead of a captain or a close to their prime seamen.
The characters Casper and Fletch are both resilient and captivating. Can you share any real-life influences or historical figures that helped shape these characters?
There are no historical figures that helped shape Casper and Fletch, however some real-life influences did play a part. When I got the idea for this story I was in a dark place in my life, and while I was planning it and even writing some of it I could still recall how I felt in what I would call my one bad year. Casper and Fletch were thrusted into a situation which evoked similar but less extreme feelings to what I was experiencing. Anger, sorrow, and isolation; all of these amongst other feelings were shared by me and my creations.
The vivid descriptions in the novel create an immersive experience for the reader. What techniques or strategies did you employ to paint such vibrant scenes, and how did you ensure that each narrative beat resonated with readers?
Honestly I wasn’t thinking about the readers much while I was writing this, all I wanted to do was honour my vision, my creative vision. This experience was always gonna be about me first and everyone else second, I wanted to do this on my own terms, and I felt that I had to do this because it couldn’t stay inside of me. My main focus was to just try and show Casper’s perspective and see how people reacted to it. I wanted them to feel what he felt, and I wanted them to question but also understand why he acts the way he does. All of the narrative just revolves around what would you do if you were Casper?
What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?
I’m at a crossroads as to what or whether I’ll write another book. I’m not the kind of person who can just jump straight into another one, I need some time away first and then I’ll see how I feel. I have three ideas at the moment however, one is a dark fantasy novel about sisterhood, another is a medieval retelling of Ashor the Immortal, and the third is a sequel to Till I Bleed No More. I can’t tell you when they’ll be available.
