Scent-Sational Searches

In her book Scent-Sational Searches, author Deborah Worley takes readers through the perfume world, aiding them in exploring different fragrances and scents. Worley’s writing is captivating. She uses words to describe scents that will make you fall in love with fragrances. She calls herself a “fragranista”, a name that complements her knowledge of the fragrance world.

Worley helps readers get to know the fragrances that best suit them. Selecting a fragrance should not be a random affair. You need to be aware of your blood type and personality type that parallel fragrance families. The discussion on blood types was fascinating. Learning about the popular blood types in the world and how they may influence one’s personality was eye-opening.

Reading about the author’s love of fragrances is heart-warming. I enjoyed the stories about the relationship her mother and grandmother had with fragrances. Her exposure to fragrances at an early age influenced her passion for scents. Learning about the author’s career with fragrances was interesting as well. Readers will experience pieces of her life through the personal stories she shares. These experiences are moving, and her love of fragrances is infectious.

Readers will understand why perfumes are crucial in grooming after reading this educational book. From this book I discovered tips on how to wear my perfume, the most alluring scents for my personality, and styling do’s and don’ts. The author also includes the history of perfumes. The book also includes biographies of some world-famous creators of perfume icons like Coco Chanel, Estée Lauder, Michael Edwards, and Thierry Mugler. Seeing how they made a mark in the world of fragrance was fascinating.

Scent-Sational Searches: Find Your Fragrances By Blood And Personality Parallels is the ideal book for fragrance and perfume aficionados. This well-researched book will help readers understand the nuances of scent and help them discover the perfect one to complement their individuality.

From The Abyss

From the Abyss by Vantar is a collection of poems that range in length, generally one to two pages long in four-line stanzas. I really appreciated the exceptional way that nature is brought to life in these poems. Sometimes this is in the way a bird or beast is described and others in the way we see a sunflower or how it feels to climb a mountain. These vivid descriptions go beyond the physicality of the object and delve into a feeling or sense of a thing. Along with this, many poems tackle a deeper or perhaps darker view of the world. The poems explore themes of beginnings and endings, of natural cycles of life, of loss, of depth, and of that which is hard to imagine. The poems are a fascinating mix of real and beyond real, bringing a little bit of magic through words into the world of nature. Vantar’s language was exquisite, both easy to read and sparking the imagination. I also like the way he uses references to lure the mind to images without having to explicitly describe them, like giving us the image of a Van Gogh sunflower in order to get to the idea of the sunflower following the sun before starting again.

Within the book, there are over eighty poems each managing to be unique while connected. Vantar accomplishes this through the use of similar themes, sticking to the natural world for the most part, and by repeating keywords from one poem to the next. I found it hard to pick favorites from the book because there were so many stanzas and lines that really sparked my mind but ‘Sunflower,’ ‘Nightingale’s Song,’ ‘The Star Triangle,’ and ‘Zenith’ stuck out to me. The book is filled with so many beautiful poems that it is easy to read through and find several that speak to you. I would say that if you like reading poetry, especially poetry about nature and thought, that this is a must read. The language is intricate and subtle which makes each poem easy to read while still holding a stunning beauty. This is the kind of book that makes a wonderful gift, or a fun book to leave on your coffee table to read a poem or two in the morning to get you thinking about the world.

A Problem in Need of a Solution

Gustavo J. Gomez Author Interview

Gustavo J. Gomez Author Interview

Hair Loss: Options for Restoration & Reversal educates readers on the variety and effectiveness of hair-loss treatments. Why was this an important book for you to write?

Hair loss is a pervasive problem affecting both men and women, and it can have profound psychological effects on the afflicted, especially women. Hair loss is currently experienced by more than 80 million people worldwide, which encompass 50 million men and 30 million women. It is a problem in need of a solution.

I became interested in the causes of hair-loss related issues twenty-five years ago, when I began to experience some hair thinning. In search for a possible solution to ameliorate or reverse my thinning hair, I began an empirical journey of discovery that continues to this date. I’ve experimented with a multitude of balding prevention recommendations; some were effective, and others were a complete waste of time and financial resources.

My objective for writing this book is to educate the consuming public about the effectiveness of the many available hair-loss treatments and restoration modalities available in a very deceiving industry. It was important to write this book because I believe that anyone experiencing hair loss will save a considerable amount of time and money by reading this comprehensive and detailed guide about hair loss. This book will educate the consumer on what works and what doesn’t, and this along makes this writing project important. It provides the reader with a historical perspective regarding hair-loss, as well as its causes, treatments, and promising future trends. In fact, we are living in a very exciting and promising time for hair-loss research.

What is a common misconception you find people have about hair-loss and restoration?

A common misconception about hair loss is that it is caused by a genetic predisposition inherited from the mother’s side. Other myths are that sexually active men become bald sooner, which implies that a hormonal component is the catalyst, or that only older men go bald or that wearing hats and wigs makes you lose your hair.

The fact of the matter is that currently, there is no conclusive evidence that explains all the causative factors that lead to male and female pattern hair loss or androgenetic alopecia. The cause is a multivariate problem that can encompass a hormonal component, a disease process, stress exposure, medications, hygiene, and even nutritional deficiencies. Therefore, education is the key to mitigate the risk of been duped by a deceiving industry. Moreover, education will place you in the right path to a worthwhile solution.

What type of research did you undertake to write this book?

I performed a comprehensive literature review of the field of hair loss research. I basically analyzed the majority of worthwhile research studies to bring forth only the information I believed to be crucial to understanding this topic. Additionally, I also interjected my own personal experiences with this topic since I’ve been afflicted by this condition also. However, through my personal education and initiatives, I have been successful in mitigating and ameliorating my hair loss significantly.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I have begun to research the literature on the topic of Diabetics with emphasis on type 2 diabetes.
I believe type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease process that is preventable and reversible.
However, it is a very unforgiving disease if the discipline to adhere to a regimented eating plan is not meticulously maintained until a physiological reset (re-balanced) is achieved between the liver and the pancreas.

My goal is to have this book ready by December of 2019 or possibly early 2020.

Hair Loss: Options for Restoration & Reversal

Hair Loss: Options for Restoration & Reversal by [Gomez, Gustavo J.]

For anyone who suffers from hair loss, the topic can be one of immense frustration and aggravation. Not necessarily because of the hair loss itself, but because of all the conflicting information found on the topic. Any information coming from a seller or manufacturer of a particular hair loss treatment methods will likely be biased so as to pull in additional paying customers, and even worse than that, much of that information is often either outdated or just plain false.

Sifting through all the misinformation can seem like a daunting task, but when a book like Hair Loss: Options for Restoration & Reversal by Gustavo J. Gomez, Ph.D. comes along everything seems quite a bit clearer. And the best part is, there does not seem to be any angle in its composition or style other than to give as much information on the topic as possible, in as organized a way as possible.

Gomez’ book feels like a scientific study written for the non-scientist and, in fact, it is a peer reviewed work like those found in scientific journals. The author outlines just about every aspect of hair loss that is available to the field of hair loss treatment, and he does so in a way that just about anyone can easily understand.

Starting his book with detailed information about the way hair grows on an anatomical and physiological level, Gomez helps his readers get a feel for the underlying causes of hair loss, so they are better equipped to understand what the various treatment paths discussed later in the book attempt to address. Identification and classification of different types and stages of hair loss, in both men and women, is then discussed at length, before a comprehensive breakdown of all the known causes of hair loss. Once the causes for hair loss are understood, the reader gets to see how and why various treatments have been used throughout the history and what the most popular approaches are today.

The quality of work that went into Hair Loss: Options for Restoration & Reversal by Gustavo J. Gomez, Ph.D. and published by Halo Publishing International of San Antonio, speaks for itself. Hair Loss is neither a light read nor a quick one, but it easily accessible by all. Gomez produced a work that provides pretty much everything a person would need to know about the subject of hair loss, and that is partially why it has won so many impressive awards.

Deception: The Ultimate Betrayal

Deception: The Ultimate Betrayal by [White, Jackie]

Jackie White’s Deception is built around Asia McKay, a beautiful, high flying career woman who is thrown into a whirlwind of hurt, betrayal, infidelity, confusion and depression. Her marriage comes to an abrupt end when she discovers that her husband, David, has been having an affair with her friend, Gina, an affair that leads to pregnancy producing twins- Reign and Raven in the long run. Asia and David have to go their separate ways. Moving on with her life, Asia meets a good-looking, randy medical doctor, Zaire, who follows her to Aruba and sneaks into her hotel room, subjecting her to sexual assault that results in pregnancy. On discovering that she is pregnant from Zaire, she becomes downcast and comes up with the idea of falsifying a DNA test in favor of David in order to keep Zaire far away from her and her child.

Deception is a compelling novel full of intrigue, irony and suspense that depicts the grim realities of life. The book is not larger than life, I found most of the characters believable to a heart breaking extent. The book’s laudable strength consists in its ability to hold its readers sway from start to finish, paying critical attention to details when describing events, places and people with felicitous phrasing. The omnipresent narrator has a sharp eye for details.

While I found the book to be highly entertaining and thrilling there was humor injected at just the right moments to bring a bit of levity to an otherwise suspenseful novel; a moment to relax your shoulders before the next twist. The novel employs the intense use of soliloquies with some characters like Asia, Gina and Zarie thinking aloud in their respective distressing and lonely moments. Conversations leading to overwhelming emotional outbursts are recurrent in the novel. As stated earlier, the author’s literary mastery shines through, describing turns of intricate events with sheer creativity, maturity and ingenuity.

The novel explores so many provocative themes in a way that is engaging yet understandable. Themes like betrayal, deception, infidelity, lust and love can be found in any one of our lives, but how Asia deals with these emotional obstacles is what kept me turning pages.

LoveQuest

LoveQuest by Pamela Jean Horter-Moore is the story of Psyche, a mortal girl blessed by the goddess Aphrodite with great beauty. She is so lovely, that she receives admirers wherever she goes. When Psyche offends Aphrodite, by seeking the approval of her envious sisters and taking her beauty for granted, Aphrodite decides to take revenge. Using her son, Eros, she attempts to punish Psyche to a loveless life. But things backfire because Eros falls in love with Psyche. Both are torn between their families and their love for one another. They must decide what is most important in life.

I am fascinated by Greek mythology with its heroes, monsters and gods, so I knew I was going to love this book before I had even started! This is an epic love story based on an original Greek myth that we know and love, but it is fleshed out with a unique narrative and a fresh take on the characters. Although it is primarily a story of romance, there are obviously fantasy aspects in there–the author excels at writing both genres and combines them expertly. Through a great feat of imagination, Horter-Moore has put a really creative and refreshing twist on what could have been a stale story.

Horter-Moore’s prose is a joy to read, it is straightforward whilst being eloquent and descriptive. It flows beautifully throughout with quite a dream-like tone which captures the milieu perfectly. The narrative is based more on internal thoughts and feelings rather than dialogue, which gives us great insight and understanding of the characters motives and desires. When there is dialogue, it is actually quite modern, for instance, “Why do we have to spend every vacation here?” whined Tanna.“That oracle never has anything interesting to say…”Although this could have felt inauthentic, I actually thought that it was a great way of making the tale more accessible and up to date. The author particularly excels at writing place, and the setting of ancient Greece is magically conjured; it is a world full of gods, superstition, soothsayers, seers and magic. The prose is extremely evocative of scenery and I felt transported to the slopes of Mount Olympus.

The characters really come alive on the page, and they are portrayed with such sensitivity- -the author isn’t afraid of illustrating their flaws and complexities. The relationship between the sisters Medea, Tanna and Psyche are particularly well portrayed, illustrating all of the complicated feelings of jealousy and yearning for approval. The love between Eros, who is the perfect mate, and Psyche, who is deeply imperfect, feels very genuine, and I felt completely invested in their relationship.

Although this is a story of Gods and mortals living in a time unlike our own, the narrative reminds us that ultimately any human heart can suffer and love in universal ways. This is a great read for any lover of myth, fantasy or romance, and I look forward to more from this author!
